Harry Giles was once considered as the #1 basketball prospect in the nation back in 2016. Even after multiple knee surgeries, he was STILL the #1 ranked prospect a year before the draft. So...what happened?

Crazy me and my dad were talking about harry last night. Me and him are from the same state and i went to basketball camp with him and ran into him a few other times. He’s a good guy and I hate how his career went. I honestly think he was burnt out because he played too many games from and early age. Hopefully he can bounce back. I’m rooting for you Harry!

He was overrated in HS. Decent skillset, no jump shot, sub par defense. He was just bigger and more athletic than most and part of his lore was shaped around his injuries of "what could be." Had he stayed healthy he would have just been an average bench warmer in the NBA.

the part of the equation that’s often missed with giles is the fact that the team drafting him would have had to have the patience to make up from losing essentially 2 1/2 years of his development thru high school and college. the kings were probably one of the worst places he could have gone because they have more turnover within the organization than probably anyone.

@@KingJaffeJoffer Run and dunk big man that sets good screens. Gets most of his points in transition and offensive rebounds. 3 major knee injuries before 18. Id say it was obvious he wasn’t going to pan out. A run and dunk big man needs to be very athletic and durable. He looked stiff even in his high school footage….

Really disappointing to see where his career took him. We all thought he was gonna be the next CP3, seeing the hometown kid go off and do great things and that meant a lot for Winston Salem. Used to go watch his games a lot because we all looked up to him and wanted to be just like him. I hope he can bounce back and turn his career around.

There isn't an individual basketball out there that I root for more than Harry Giles. He has been so snakebit. Great young man and has handled adversity really well. Many people think of Greg Oden as the comparison to what Sam Bowie went through, but really, Giles' work ethic, playstyle, and positive attitude, along with his unfortunate bad luck, are more similar to Bowie than Oden was.

Hope he could join the BIG 3 League! So everyone could still give him play and give a shot. Iso-Joe was playing there and then got a 10-day etc and Jarett Jack was offered assistant coach! Put your face out there!

Why not build a career in Europe. Som many frindge NBA players are grinding in the G leage with no money. More should go to Europe . There is alot of money there for taking care of yourself and the family.

It’s a damn shame. Life’s tough, just goes to show how special it is when someone actually makes the league, let alone becomes a true star. Everything needs to go right, and life doesn’t believe in letting things go right
