Personally, I think anyone paying more than list for a mass-produced item is nuts. The mark-up on these things is enormous and the dealers all make-out that these things are as rare as hens teeth, where as in reality each dealer gets to see around 500 watches a year from Rolex so they are far from limited in stock. Just stop buying until the prices return to normal.

Mass produced or not, it’s about demand. Simple supply and demand. Demand for certain Rolexes greatly exceeds the supply.

I mean when you put it that way it sound so easy in principle, but that's not now how the market works. We have a free market because of demand and supply. Some people just want to pay above the MSRP for some of these piece if they so wish, not everyone is inclined or obligated to. Once again D&S dictates the market.

It is supply and demand, but Rolex and the AD play the hype game and artificially restrict supply to inflate prices. So the game is rigged.

He doesn't set the market value of a Pepsi, the market sets the value, he’s just telling it as it is, and selling a watch for the value of it. You can still buy the watch because you like it to wear, not as investment.

Hi Charlie, some good advise here 🙏 I have been buying luxury wristwatches for over 50 years, but not Rolex. I started buying Rolex for my late wife as I mentioned before, she told me what exactly what she wanted (gold, with mother of Pearl topped with diamonds) I would only ever purchase what I liked, medium size gold, perhaps with diamonds, as they are for ever. In the video you are saying that the Datejust 41 with the motif dial is discontinued. What about the 36 models? Do they still come with the motif dial? Or is Rolex stopping all motif dials?

Buying a watch on the hype, on the strength of a discontinue, lunacy … it’s just gambling, you want a safe bet, buy gold. All subjective, but The yacht master 2 is /was a shocker imo, low sales for a reason

Charlie my AD told me that he was going to allocate the first new 18kt gold deepsea with the blue dial. #136668LB. Should I buy this watch? The solid yellow gold Rolex watches don’t seem to popular - price and dangerous to wear these days in any case. Is my AD doing me a favor Charles? I have bought a few other Rolex watches and some jewelry for my wife from this shop as well and I have known them for well over 5 years.

Not a fan of the motif dials personally especially paired with fluted and jubilee - they always looked way over the top to my eyes. They only work on the more muted smooth bezel and oyster unless you like the Liberace look.

For those not paying attention to prices of Rolex in Japan, they crashed there..... 16710 Pepsi is under $8k now. Two tone daytona under $17k. I'll be buying in Japan next month 🎉

I bought a blue motif Datejust 41 (jubilee, white gold bezel) 3 months ago in Tokyo. My first Rolex and the exact combination that I wanted! It pairs perfectly with a nice suit. The discontinuation just makes me even more happy with my purchase. Never planning to sell 👍

On the advice to sell your YachtMaster 2 due to its lack of popularity…bear in mind the Daytona languished in dealers windows for months, possibly years, and was discounted by dealers just to clear them when it was first introduced…. …a reminder that what becomes most collectible in the future is often what is not popular/didn’t sell today. Why? Largely because there weren’t many around and/or nobody bought them. Granted, you might have to put up with an ugly duckling with your fingers crossed tastes change in your favour…but only if investment is your sole aim (which tbh, it needn’t and probably shouldn’t be).

Thanks Charlie, love your vids. On an entirely separate note: The market is the market, just sad to see Rolex watches only compared to value growth these days. Takes all the fun out of the brand. It’s why I’m not interested in Rolex anymore. You are buying more of a stock than a watch. Most don’t even like the watch, only drawn to the value nowadays, that’s the key decision maker behind everything. You’ll see them wearing stickers on their watches 😂

i bought my watch during lockdown and it went up way over 100k but i kept it it is now retailing for 50k but i will never sell it , its too good to let go, wear it everyday but the last two months i put it in the drawer .

@@Ant-bc9yx not a lot of cash to go around nowadays it seems. I’ve been looking to sell other items and while they’re moving it’s definitely been more sluggish. My Root Beer is either going to my kids or following me to the grave, never getting rid of it not even for double MSRP! 😂 It’s the most aestethic model they make imo. Maybe rivaled by the OF Daytonas…maybe.
