Ah Operation August Storm. It should be remembered like Operation Babarosa (sorry if misspelled) which is when Axis attacks in the USSR in 1941.

Can you even imagine Operation Downfall? Nearly every major military power on earth would have converged on Japan's home islands. The scale and violence would have been unthinkable.

They killed tens of thousands, but the Operation Downfall invasion might have resulted in TEN MILLION casualties. There were no good options. It's probably one of the most horrible decisions any US President has ever had to make.

Their artillery capabilities went as far as their planes could reach, if you get what I mean ;)

The tanks were of little use in the many Pacific islands that required extra effort for them to be carried from island to island constantly. And even when they got to the island it was often full of forests and jungles which is the kind of terrain that all tank crews fear. Also, by 1942 the US had achieved mostly air superiority in the skies and any tanks that were caught in the open were great targets for the American Air Force. In addition by the time the island hopping campaign started, the Japanese were fully on the defensive,something which tanks are not made for. Finally, Imperial Japan was, like it’s ally Nazi Germany, short on resources and manpower, meaning if they mass produced tanks, there would be not enough fuel to run them all.

Don't forget that thay had Bad light wepenry ( machin guns .. Rifles ..pistoles ) even so that thay did some Times demege to there owne users And thé armerd viecles couldn't even Penn thé side armer of t34s at all . In thé end even there airforce was infiriore to thé soviet one 🧐🧐🧐

Also Japanese tanks had good cannons however their armour was worthless since it was quite thin all around or just wasn't good enough. They were designed to be able to easily transported for naval invasions.

Before, during and after the war, he is known notoriously for white terror which puts Mao to shame in the regard. the Soviets hardly did anything against Japan in comparison to the other countries, the Soviets only won against Germany thanks to the allies opening up other fronts in Western Europe, Italy, and North Africa, and thanks to the American made weapons provided to the USSR through Lend Lease, the USSR was only responsible for a little over 1% of all Japanese casualties which is very minimal

You should call it the "Allied" navy as British Royal Navy is still a force to be reckon with. Especially in the Indian Ocean where the largest naval battle prior to Leyte Gulf, The Battle of Ceylon (today's Sri Lanka), was fought.

In WWII; it was generally thought that an attacking force required about a 3:1 advantage in manpower to accomplish the combat goal. The 2:1 listed here (1.5 million vs ~750k+) would put the numerical advantage to the defender. And I totally agree that the Japanese army was depleted; as was the Guard's Battalions that attacked. The Soviet population lost 25% of their fighting age population in WWII; I doubt that meant the cream of the army was doing the attacking; and I doubt the training the Soviets were giving their conscripts was much more than the training of the Kwantung. The Soviet did have much better equipment due to lend lease, and much better experience; due to the Wehrmacht. I'm not trying to prop up the Soviets or idolize them, just point out that even with the factors; I think it is still very impressive.

Still German invasion overall was more impressive,French Army in May 1940 was still more advanced and much larger than Japanese Army in Manchuria. And don’t forget that Soviets outnumbered Japanese almost 10 to 1 in number of tanks in the area.

Nikolai Yezhov head of the NKVD for example admitted to unfounded arrests and was largely responsible for the reign of terror. Some purges were necessary with the fifth column, a fascist reactionary group operating in the USSR but Stalin's paranoia and being surrounded by people like Yezhov meant things got out of hand with disastrous consequences.
