China is the 4th Largest country in the world and is said to have the largest population on the planet with over 1.44 Billion people making it one of the most powerful countries in the worldwide. Yet China has a weakness since the country is severely impacted by desertification, with over one-quarter of the country affected by this challenge. Desertification is the process by which land turns into a desert. For example grazing or agricultural land can degrade over time and becomes more arid, causing the land to be less fertile and less productive. This is a huge issue for China, since their population continues to grow whilst Chinas largest Desert, the Gobi Desert is the fastest growing desert on the planet, expanding at a rate of nearly 2 miles per year. This is a problem since Desertification threatens human subsistence, as it makes natural resources including food and water much more difficult to obtain. This undermines agricultural output, furthermore desert dunes threaten to bury fields and infrastructure in sand. China currently has 6.6 million square kilometers of drylands which are vulnerable to desertification, thus much of the continent is at risk and China has many deserts, covering 27% of the country's land area.
However a miracle is taking place in one of Chinas 4 major deserts, called the Mu Us Desert also referred to as the Maowusu Desert. Here an unbelievable effort has taken place, For the first time in History a man-made desert has totally been transformed, 80% of the Mu Us desert has now turned into a green forest. Amazingly this Desert has now officially reached the tipping point that it can no longer be called a desert, since the control rate of desertified land has reached over 90%. This unbelievable effort covers an area of 42,200 square kilometers, which used to be completely devoid of trees and farmland, now it has become a green oasis, where farming is happening again. This remarkable restoration story is a perfect example of how it can be possible to bring life back to barren land and it would not of been possible if it wasn't for the ingenuity of one woman named Yin, a peasant who lived in a remote part of the Mu Us desert, who spent 35 years of her life regreening the desert. This transformation was no easy feat, due to the tough weather conditions, storms, shifting sand and other difficulties such as the hard working conditions, inconvenient transportation and inadequate funds. In the beginning very few saplings survived just a mere 1% but over time Yin managed to increase the success rate up to 70%, She did this by working tirelessly trying different techniques until her efforts paid off, eventually the government took notice and started incorporating her methods in huge afforestation projects in the Gobi desert. The total transformation of the Mu Us Desert is truly an inspiring story of how a backyard experiment became the catalyst that inspired others to fight back against the sand and successfully turn deserts green again.
In this video we will show you how this incredible woman managed to turn the desert into a thriving ecological park that is bursting with biodiversity, having planted well over 300,000 native trees and plants with a least 1000 different species we will also look at the ingenious techniques she used to make the desert turn green again.

I have watched many re-greening videos from around the world (Africa, Australia, China, India, Middle East, United States) and I find it strange that, all over the world, the methods that actually work in reclaiming the land are just people who go out and work with the land; yet, the only methods that governments and organizations talk about are the methods that cost large amounts of money and don't work very well. If the governments would actually teach everyone these techniques and encourage their use, desertification could be reversed everywhere.

That is still a fragile area, and the CCP's program ricestraw program is still new. Pretty sure the gridded ricestraw efforts will largely fail as well because they ignored harvesting rainwater in small, frequent, localized efforts, as well as encouraging site-appropriate tree planting. The CCP did well with the Loess Plateau because of combined, site-appropriate strategies. The CCP (as well as the rest of the world) would do well to adopt better crop growing methods

You answered it yourself. She is Chinese and from China, and this is part of a government backed program and policy that has been going on for decades now. Ms Yin is probably even a CPC member herself, or promoted to an official now. These are the kinds of people CPC recruit as members. All CPC recruits start from the bottom and must lift a village from poverty or do stuff like this. Live and work in rural China and improve the village and quality of life. There are thousands or even a million Ms Yins in China, that is why China was able to lift 850+ million Chinese from poverty and in the end China completely eradicated abject poverty and accomplish all the countless other miracles it has achieved in the last few decades alone. You don't go from being poorer than Africa and India in 1960/1970 to being bigger gdp PPP and being technologically independent and world beaters in 50 years unless your citizensand government are made up primarily of people like Ms Yin. Many will think I am exaggerating but it you go to China you will understand that most Chinese are super hard working and strong willed, even if they lack education to begin with. Chinese are pragmatic and will achieve their goals like stopping desertification or ending poverty or beating usa/sk/17 other UN countries combined in 1950-1953 Korean war with whatever they have at the time. Since modern Chinese founding and cold war, Western media cannot praise anything Chinese, especially not something that involves the government. But Western racism against China and Chinese go back centuries, from yellow peril to Chinese exclusion acts in 17/1800s, Chinese are coming to USA to steal our jobs! Today it's the same but Chinese are stealing their jobs without even leaving China now. Even this positive report which is the rare exception does not mention the government or their role at all, which recruits such dedicated self less people and also pays and subsidize such people, and also recognize such people like Yin as national heroes. Same reason why nobel prize winners are all from west and mainly white or euro. They will recognize 1000000 Greta Thunbergs who have done nothing before they ever recognize one pro china pro gov Chinese person like Ms Yin. If anything they will turn this story into some forced slave labor story where she is threatened to work because they will kill her and her family if she doesn't. Or other ridiculous stuff like that. No need for evidence of any kind, they will just keep saying lies until one sticks. Like xinjiang genocide or concentration camps. Just need to show a satellite picture of a building. Even if it's just a school or factory or normal prison, they know people will still believe it because of decades and centuries of anti China racism and propaganda. It is just racism and manufacturing consent in order to keep Western dominance and contain and stop Chinese development and recognition. When usa and west hear and see such stories, they don't feel hopeful. Instead they feel fear due to how Strong willed and capable China is. And this is a poor uneducated Chinese, yet they can do things usa and west have never done and cannot do under their system and culture.. imagine a rich and technologically advanced one. It will totally undermine their confidence in their own system and government. Same with chinas miraculous lifting up of its poor and ending poverty completely in few decades. If they do report such stories, it will always have negative spin or aspect to it. Headlines like "China reforested the desert.. but at what cost?" or "china ended abject poverty completely.. but at what cost?" or "China cured cancer.. but at what cost?" and it will primarily focus on downplaying China's achievements and focus purely on just the mistakes and negative aspects. It's not just ignoring or lack of reporting, but they will actually lie and report the story just so they can pre emptively downplay any positives and spin it into a negative. USA spends like billions every year in their yearly national budget just to put out nonstop anti China propaganda. They even banned a documentary from PBS on Chinas poverty alleviation/eradication from airing because China was so successful and it made the government look competent and capable and showed that Chinese supported/backed their government and were united in a common goal. That is a big no no in western media. They want everyone to hate and be scared of China, not respect and look up to China. Otherwise it makes them look incompetent and corrupt in comparison. Now they have an excuse for why they can't do what chinas gov did. It's only possible due to Chinese slave labor, or Chinese stealing or copying or this or that. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see some story about China genocide the desert nomads and killing all the desert animals and ecology once this is even more successful and is widely known. There is no depth that USA and western mainstream media won't sink to in order to slander China and deflect from their own failings as a government and country. I mean those filthy red communists can never be successful unless they lied, stole, cheated, threatened and killed their way to success right? In reality that is how usa.and west became rich and powerful. It is like a thief shouting thief to preemptively deflect and distract in order to protect themselves from their own failure to do anything for their own country and people .and recognize such people like Yin as national heroes. Same reason why nobel prize winners are all from west and mainly white or euro. They will recognize 1000000 Greta Thunbergs who have done nothing before they ever recognize one pro china pro gov Chinese person like Ms Yin. If anything they will turn this story into some forced slave labor story or she is threatened to work because they will kill her and her family if she doesn't. Or other ridiculous stuff like that. It is racism and for manufacturing consent in order to keep Western dominance and contain and stop Chinese development and recognition. When usa and west hear and see such stories, they don't feel good for humanity or hopeful in their hearts.. Instead those in power feel fear and feel threatened due to seeing how Strong willed and capable China really is, and the people will feel despair seeing how corrupt and incompetent their gov and system is in comparison.. And this is "just" a poor uneducated Chinese and an "evil authoritarian" government, yet they can do all these great things for their people and the world that usa and west have never done and cannot ever do under their system and culture.. then they imagine what a rich and technologically advanced china can do.. It will totally undermine their confidence in their own system and government. Same with chinas miraculous lifting up of its poor people and ending poverty completely in few decades. For a country of 1.4 billion, this is the most miraculous and fastest rise humanity has ever seen. No other gov has lifted so many people out of poverty in such a short amount of time. If they do report such miracle stories and amazing positive accomplishments, you can be sure that it will always have a negative spin or aspect to it, and that will be the main focus while they downplay the miraculous positives like it is a normal thing to lift 850 million from poverty in 40 years. Headlines like "China reforested the desert.. but at what cost?" or "china ended abject poverty completely.. but at what cost?" or "China cured cancer.. but at what cost?" and it will primarily focus on downplaying China's achievements and focus purely on just the mistakes and negative aspects. Just Google "China does X, but at what cost?" and you will see thousands of examples in every mainstream western media. It's not just ignoring or lack of reporting, but they will actually lie and report the story just so they can pre emptively downplay any positives and spin it into a negative so China doesnt get any recognition. China can never be seen in a good light in the West. China is the 'enemy'. I'm surprised if this producer did not get attacked for being pro commie traitor and that they even allowed this to be aired. It is like a thief shouting thief to preemptively deflect and distract in order to protect themselves from their own failure to do anything for their own country and people.

🌸 🌸 I am so happy to see this beautiful lady and her village I also saw documentary while back featuring an Indian village. A doctor returned home to his village only to be heart broken upon seeing its current condition. Where most of trees were cut down & they had no water in wells, it was close to a desert He used his retirement money he got from UK and spend the following decades doing reforestation to restore their forested areas He also inspired the neighbouring villages to follow the same & together they caused whole area to be natural forested land again I also saw another one where the people doing the reforestation were getting funds from rich investor from east. It worked but the investor pulled out many years later & they couldn’t gain funding to keep it up. I saw blind chap & disabled one together they were planted lots of trees together. It’s amazing what one or two people can do, now imagine what will happen if everyone did this around where they lived in China. Planted over 10k together I’m addicted to watching reforestation around the world as it inspires me as well as make my soul sing with joy Even Saudi Arabia has planted crops in dessert land to try to return the soil to use again I’m aware some villages in Africa are being taught about reforestation but I am not aware of their progress or problems Seeing this documentary made me so happy. In my own home, I ensured I planted loads of fruit trees where I live & volunteered & planted larger type trees whenever I could gain a chance. I encouraged lots of my family & friends to plant small trees within their properties such as fruit trees or decorative ones. I wish more places do this

Its sonuplifting to see the desert made green and productive, like desert in Israel. Smart people create not destroy. Africa is still creating deserts bc they cut the wood for cooking and do not replace the trees. Educational efforts are failing. Over 4 million hectares of land are turn into desert each year. But the population is growing fine and their main export are people flooding Europe and North America.

Must try harder here in UK. This legend has shrunk me. I have also been lobbying the council and politicians to open up public tree planting zones so that I can plant all the trees that are growing in my gardens, I have no space left. I also grow and give away other trees such as oaks and horse chestnut trees. EVEN IF YOU JUST BRING WATER TO THE DESERT WITHOUT PLANTING TRESS THE WATER WILL JUST EVAPORATE AND SIP IN TO THE SAND AND NOTHING WILL GROW. JUST LIKE IN SAUDI ARABIA, EVERY YEAR THERE IS A LOT OF RAIN AND EVEN A BIG FLOODS BUT ALL THE WATER ARE WASHED AWAY TO THE SEA BECAUSE THERE ARE NO TRESS. THAT IS WHY PLANTING TRESS IS SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE ITS THE TRESS THAT MAKE GOOD SOILS AND STOP WATER FROM GOING TO WASTE.
