The story behind the stardom of Timothee Chalamet, the French-American heartthrob who went from being a relatively forgettable TV actor to the face of new Hollywood.
In this video essay we explore Chalamet's iconic roles including Elio Perlman in Call Me By Your Name, Paul Atreides in Dune, and Zeffirelli in The French Dispatch. We also go over how Chalamet managed to get his first major movie role when he played a minor role on TV.
Timothee Chalamet was also rejected by Marvel, when he read for Spider Man, and by Tim Burton. We go over this as well.

I never really thought about this but you're right. He's smart. I remember watching him make a speech when he was a still new face a couple years ago and thinking, man even this kid fails at acting he'll still make it in life. He's got charm and charisma in spades and he really really knows how to talk.

I also think his idol being Kid Cudi os very telling of his trajectory. Cudi isn't the most famous rapper. But he is pretty experimental. And for Chalamet to have him as an idol in his tween years when most people just worship the biggest names is very revealing. Kid's an artist and I'm really looking forward to how he grows.

@@StardomSauce Same here. So far he’s been excellent at picking directors and scripts to work on. He does all sorts of movies and has range. He’s setting himself apart from his peers for sure

He’s by far the most intelligent among his contemporaries when it comes to giving speeches - he said he writes his own speeches - and during interviews where he gets very excited to impart whatever he knows about the topic at hand. He could go toe-to-toe with actors who would put him in a sort of embarrassing moment; he rises with grace & could laugh at himself when he finds himself in an embarrassing situation (when he fell from his chair).

for anyone who is a parent or a teacher, consider letting your kids play and experiment with all the things they love and like even if they are not the best at them, even if they feel useless. That is one of many the keys for multifaceted and creative kids to become at healthier and happy adult.

The youngest in 78 years? No, Patty Duke at age 16 was nominated and won an Oscar for best supporting actress in 1963, which was 61 years ago.

Chalamet is the youngest best actor nominee in 78+ years. So we're not talking about best supporting actor or other categories. But thank you for highlighting Patty Duke.

Timothée’s movies Willy Wonka & Dune 2 of which he’s the lead star surpassed the $200M box office take, TOOK the record long held by John Travolta’s movies Saturday Night Live & Grease! Even John Travolta, who’s always a very nice fellow, congratulated him. Wonka got $600M globally in 2 wks & counting. There’s prediction that Dune2, ATM got $400M domestically, will SURPASS Wonka’s take in the box office, globally!

And before anyone gives the credit to the franchises these movies are connected to, remember that Star Wars, MCU, Terminator, and Ghostbusters have all delivered mid performance in recent years.

Like many young men and young women in the industry before him, Timothee has talent, youth, and good looks. He's simply the flavor of the month. This is Hollywood we're talking about.

His films are hits because of the names of the brand films (Wonka, dune) not him. He still has to prove that he can carry a film on his shoulders 😅
@StardomSauce
@StardomSauce Місяць тому
But well-established franchises have had poor performance even with big name actors. Star Wars, GhostBusters, MCU to name a few. I believe it's more so the scripts that make his movies successful.

Brand films in the hands of bad actors will be a failure. Not so “branded” movies with good actors & directors will become successful.

@@StardomSauce look at marvel movies. Most actors had high grosses in them. But when they had standalone films on their names they bombed. Example Robert Downey jr: the judge and doolittle. Timothee has to prove his name sells not the brand 🥴
@StardomSauce
@StardomSauce Місяць тому
I actually made a video about RDJ's marvel exit. But your point regarding the marvel brand also falls apart if you look at how poorly The Marvels did. Timothee is very smart with his script selection. Blindly signing onto a franchise does not guarantee success.

I actually don't think he's that good of an actor. I think he's growing, but has a long way to go if acting itself is what's he's passionate about. That being said he's very smart and seems to eager to learn so that's giving him resilience long enough to stay around for him to become valuable to directors and producers
@StardomSauce
@StardomSauce Місяць тому
If you compare him to elite character actors, he will fall short. But in his age group, he is exceptional. And he has a great eye for scripts...which again is pretty rare for actors in his age group.

@@StardomSauce I agree with you. I think in his age group he stands out. Dune II he is phenomenal. And in Wonka.. TBH I still think his performance in Call Me By Your Name should have got that Oscar. He's no Michael Sheen or Andrew Scott, but they're a lot older and a lot more experienced than he is.
