How old are his brothers? They might be too old to volunteer for the games, or they see Peeta as old enough to have a chance to survive. Prim was 12 and in the book was said to be soft-hearted and kind. There was no possible way she could have won the Hunger Games. Meanwhile Peeta is older and stronger than most the boys in the district being the son of a baker. He had a large enough chance of winning that his brothers could justify letting him go

@@brianwolf399 you’re totally right but in this specific year, Katniss was in her element. It was a Forrest environment which is a place she is very comfortable in.

Plus, in the books it was explicitly mentioned that Peeta and Katniss focused on survival skills in the training phase. Making knots, camouflage, edible plants, making fire and stuff. They didn't want to do combat skills, because they wanted to hide their best skillsets and loose their advantage of surprise. Plus strengthen your weaknesses is always a good idea.

It explains in the last book that the mutts weren't actually the dead tributes, but the game designers intentionally gave them similar eyes and faces which is almost as sadistic

Yes, they don’t want too many days with nothing going on, but at the same time they don’t want everyone super injured at the finale, they want people recovered and strong enough for epic fights. We can see that after the fire, where the gamemakers allowed Katniss like 2-3 days of no disasters after she and the careers + Peeta were stung by tracker jackers. It is assumed the other careers might have had nightmares and spent some time asleep as well, and since by this time a “Katniss vs Careers” drama was building up, they wouldn’t want Katniss dead by sending mutts towards her just because the games are boring, they’d give her 2-3 days to heal up

Assuming the wasps make a nest much similar to ones we have, like was depicted in the movie, wouldn't it have been much easier to cut the nest off the branch directly? She was going to risk getting stung cutting the branch so shouldn't one quick firm slice through the top of the nest accomplished the same thing? My gut says that the probability of getting stung would either be less or equal to cutting the branch.

It seems like he did there at the end though, when it was him vs Katniss. See, she had the long range weapon, whereas I'm pretty sure he only had a knife. There is no logical reason at that point for her not to kill him, retire, and live in luxury for the rest of her life. Am I missing anything?

@@badname7684 I dunno. You bring up an interesting point. To play the devil's advocate, she had already killed a couple people. One guy she shot in the chest with her arrow, though that would probably fall under the classification of self defense. She also executed Cato with an arrow to the head, which was a mercy killing, but it was definitely a direct kill. She also indirectly killed the golden hair girl by dropping a nest of deadly wasps on her, so I'd credit her with that kill (on the grounds that her actions were performed with lethal intent.) One could also make the case that by blowing up the stockpile of rations and supplies, she rendered the sentry's life worthless, and was indirectly responsible for his death. However, that might be a bit of a stretch, so we will not count that as a kill. Therefore, Katniss has three confirmed kills. Because of this, I would presume that she certainly could execute Peeta if her life depended on it. However, as you pointed out, she is quite compassionate, and probably wouldn't like to execute somebody who had surrendered. However, if she could turn off the empathetic part of her brain, she might be able to loosely classify this as a mercy kill, as he had the circulation to his leg cut off with her emergency field dressing, though again, it's a bit of a stretch. I guess it just depends on whether she considers her survival important enough to warrant an execution.

If she just shot the land mines she would have killed maybe one or two, not everyone. Maybe it would have worked, but sneaking up initially would have been difficult as well. I can see it killing one person.

@@StagedCaptivityt’s a joke based on rpg games, particularly of the fallout series. Think of each character as having a different build and play-style. STR=strength, PER=perception, END=endurance, CHR=Charisma, INT=intelligence, AGl=Agility. I’ll give you a few examples on what each attribute means and how that relates to each character. Take Peeta, he’d easily lose a physical fight with the careerist’s(who I said would have high physical skills like strength, endurance, agility), however what he does have is high intelligence(shown in his fieldcraft and strategic thinking like when he formed a temporary alliance with the careerists as they know he’s a savant he can buy time to think of a better plan while having their protection, also goes into charisma) and charisma as he’s the more out-going gregarious out of the duo with Katniss and plays on the capital audience’s expectations and sentiments(when he pretends katniss was pregnant with his baby in the second movie). Peeta thinks in the future while most other characters think in the present. Whether that’s out-thinking the careerists and playing on the pathos of the crowd which nets him and Katniss in-game gifts. Like I said the careerists(Glimmer, Clove, Marvel, and Cato) would have at least average intelligence and personality traits but would be high in physical aspects. They’ve been training their entire lives to dominate the hunger games so they would be very high in physical traits like strength, endurance, agility, perception etc. they’re more average on the cerebral stats since they’re just as smart as the need to be but like I said about Peeta, they think in the present moment which would be hunting down other contestants. They don’t really need to think ahead though since they can merk 99% of the other contestants. But somebody with high intelligence and charisma like Peeta can out-think them like he did when he convinced them to not merk him right off the bat which bought him time. Fox face, the red-headed girl I said had high intelligence and agility. She was the shyer of her district’s duo(her male counterpart handled most other interview) so lower charisma but she’s also proven she’s as smart as Peeta when it comes to wildlife/plant recognition and field craft and I gave her high agility/endurance as she just straight Usain Bolt sprints to the cornucopia and then the forrest the minute the game starts(and intelligence, she knows that the rush for the cornucopia will get half of the contestants merked in the first minutes alone which is what happened) and INT/AGL on display once again when she safely crossed the minefield to get a few more things from the center. In the end nobody catches her(I do believe she merked herself by eating the poisonous berries instead of being unalived by the careerists as again she’s shown to again be intelligent and knows a lot about plants). But again like Peeta, she would not win a physical fight and it’s probably what would of happened to Peeta if he weren’t protected by plot armor. Katniss as the protagonist has more middle of the road stats and a good slightly above average all around stats/build. She’s better than some but not as good as the careerists which why I called her the Jack of all trades. She has pretty good agility and intelligence(just not as good as Peeta/fox face), she’s more physical than most but not as good as the careerists. If you had Katniss on the character attributes selection menu like in a video game(1=worst, 10=best) it would be like Katniss has a 5,6, or 7 in each attributes(probably a 4 in charisma since again she’s not as talkative or engaging). The joke about rue is based on rpg video game aspects like perk/skill selection. It’s like saying you spec’d into guns to become a gunslinger or melee weapons to be a sword-master. Saying rue spec’d into medicine was a way of saying she’s not that useful at anything but that(which she didn’t need to be, her narrative point was to be a sacrificial lamb to motivate Katniss into dismantling the system) such is a min-maxxed character. Which is putting all your skill points into one aspect so that your character is a savant in one area but useless outside of that specialized area.

I think the idea is for him to offer tribute in *Peeta's* place so he can *protect* Prim in the arena.

Gale was protecting Katniss' family during the hunger games. Assuming they are equally capable, it shouldn't be too much of a problem to provide for both families. Unless you mean the guilt of sending him to his death. Then yeah, I'd feel pretty bummed out.

The only reason the romance idea came up was because Peeta had a crush on Katniss for a long time already. Isn't it more common in the career districts? I think it's said in the books that teenagers in the career districts train in the event they are selected. Considering how eager the Career tributes are to fight, it wouldn't be a stretch for some of them to volunteer in the event a 12 year old is selected.

Why bother making it to the final four if you were just going to kill yourself? That seems like a weird choice to have made. I would guess that she was just so hungry that she was willing to take the risk and eat the berries. We have no information on how she was doing in the games, perhaps she hadn't eaten in days.

But at the end of the game they don’t need sponsors or people to like them. The sponsors are to survive during the game but at the end it’s just them alone so that doesn’t affect it.

I think this brings up a question. What method is taught. It would realistically range from flint, and steel to lighters. Doing it from scratch is still kind of unnecessary. Though it wouldn't be unrealistic to find flint. Steel could be recycled from something else.

I've thought Peeta was the best player of the Hunger Games for a while. Katniss is a warrior and uses her considerable strength and physical skill, but Peeta uses his brain to play the game and secure an advantage by presenting an interesting story to the viewers and sponsors. Peeta is no fool and does indeed know what's up.

Honestly, President Snow was right. The Gamemaker should have let them kill themselves it may be an F you to the capitol, but it would show the Capitol not giving a fuck about the district and that they are in control. By showing "weakness" and bending their knee and allowing them both to survive, it showed that the Capitol can be rebelled against.

If it's an enemy, the protagonist would kill them, but how would the protagonists deal with an extra ally that they're not willing to kill in a death game? How would this problem be solved? @@gavinjenkins899 it's not a dumb rule, the games was deliberately rigged so the poorer people's that need to change their name for a yearly tessera suppy get bigger odds to get picked, than rich people's that doesn't need to change their name to a tessera supply, they deliberately use that system to reward the rich people that serve the Capitol well, and to tell people that they need to work their ass off or they will get bigger chance to get picked for the hunger games because they need to change their name to tessera supply to survive in the district. And they also want the older player to get bigger chance to get picked for the games since the older tribute will have better odds to win the game and will give them better entertainment because they're mostly bigger and stronger than the younger tribute so they'll have better probablility to play a more brutal games, hence why they double the name every year so as you get older your odds of getting picked up always increased. They're not dumb and they made those rule to show you that the odds is never in your favor, and you only lived because the Capitol want you to.

@@gavinjenkins899 You're forgetting 1) the rule of the entries piling up over the years AND 2) the rule that makes it so the maximum Tessarae portions you can take out is the number of family members you have. 1. A twelve-year-old will ALWAYS have a slimmer chance of being picked than an eighteen-year-old, if they take out the same amount of Tessarae. If everyone agrees to take out one portion a year, then at twelve you will have 2 slips, at thirteen you will have 4 slips, and so on. It's not realistic to expect everyone to only take out Tessarae once in their whole lifetime (at age twelve) in a district like 12, and even if they could somehow manage that, it still wouldn't make things equal because one slip is always added each year regardless of if you take out Tessarae or not. 2. It's really hard to make everyone take out equal amounts of Tessarae. Someone like Gale, who has four other family members, can take out a maximum of five portions a year and add that to the one mandatory entry per year, means that he will add six slips of his name every year (which is what he did in Canon because he has 42 slips in the bowl when he's eighteen). Katniss however, will only ever have her name entered up to four times each year with her family of three. There will inevitably be kids who are forced to take out more than one Tessarae portion per year. Kids who have younger siblings under the age of twelve, for example. The rules have probably been made with ideas like yours in mind. There aren't many loopholes that can be exploited, and they aren't dumb at all.

If you have 100 people each with 5,000,000,000 entries, the chance each will be drawn is... drumroll... still 1%. There is zero downside to entries piling up. It's just free oil and grain, simple as that. And yes it's therefore dumb. "2) maximum of family members" Okay so the free oil and grain I get is limited. So what? Still free oil and grain, still dumb. Sure you can't like, start your own oil exporting company with whole tankers full, lol, but your town can supply your whole town's actual needs for free forever, which is still VERY dumb, even if it's not INFINITELY dumb.
