Always keep in mind, more people make money telling people they can do something than doing it themselves. The real estate space is full of kids telling you how much they make in real estate, and that you can too if you watch their content. But the videos are their income, not real estate. The fiance and trading soaces are the same. And the digital nomad space is no difference. One of the most profitable forms of content right now is making videos telling people they can make money making videos.

That may be true with certain people, but I’ve been doing this for 20 YEARS. If you’re curious about my income streams, this video explains it: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/qWl4aHt8i6epyps.html I once had 18 different revenue streams and NONE of them had to do with UKposts or content creation

When the restaurant industry shut down during the pandemic, I leveraged my culinary experience to develop/adapt recipes, create dietary plans, research new ingredients and teach cooking skills online. As I travel, I supplement my income by being a private chef, catering events and leading food market tours. I also wrote food blog content and contributed to e-cookbooks. What really helps is to brainstorm and make a long list of ways to apply my skills, both online and in person. You need to get comfortable marketing yourself all the time!

@@sicorasestak8424 A lot of networking. I reached out to chefs before I visited their city, asking if we could meet. Sometimes I offered to work a shift for free in exchange for using their kitchen facilities for catering. For private chef gigs, I let everyone I met know what I did and followed up with an email to cook for them. I cooked at co-working/co-living places for other guests and they referred me to their clients/friends. I cooked for my Airbnb hosts in exchange for free nights. For market tours, I offered my services to their marketing managers and to local hotel concierges for value-added guest services. I even helped demo/sample food products at a Japanese grocery store. Basically, you're just putting yourself out there all the time! The more you do, the more word gets around. If I'd been smart, I should have started a UKposts channel to record it all.

Understanding that with this lifestyle it's not common to work only a a few of hours per day ("at the beach") is key. Many portray it like that but for nearly all nomads, you will need to work most of the day. The tradeoff to the lifestyle is location freedom and experiencing new cultures every few months. Good luck to all who try to pursue this lifestyle. Remember not overthink it. Set up a game plan and just do it.

Buddy of mine is writing articles remotely. He has AI resources, but after 5 to 5 hours he's totally smoked all the same. Intensity x duration is the same end result as an 8er.

I would say that working an average number of hours per week (or more, in some cases), is the norm for freelancers and remote employees, as well as some online business owners, but not for other types of entrepreneurs and passive income nomads. I've also found that, the longer I work for myself, the more I like it and want to work. 😊
@WorldTaxAndy
@WorldTaxAndy 10 місяців тому
Yep. The 'work at the beach' meme is unrealistic and gets boring quickly. As a nomad I've found I still need separation between the work & life part. All-in on whatever I'm doing - when I'm working I'm purely working, when I'm relaxing I'm only doing that. Combing both just doesn't do it for me (being on a laptop by the beach, sunglare in the screen, sand in the keyboard, FOMO at not being out there etc - weirdly stresses me out). So I try to work pretty hard from early morning till mid afternoon (probably still work 8-10 hours most days) then enjoy the beach and other parts of the lifestyle later on.

Best part about remote work is while you at home working you can build a second income online. It could be a UKposts channel or a blog. Once you can get a few multiple income streams going it can help unload the amount of work. Also digital nomads live in cheap locations so make 5k a month is not required. Usually 2k a month is sufficient unless they are heavy spenders.

This is a great summary of the major ways to be able to work remotely! I agree that both the monetize yourself and passive income methods can be very time consuming at the start. It's great though that if you put in the work, it can be very rewarding in the end. I know one of the challenges with finding a remote job is that some companies have been shifting back to being in the office either full time or part time. I've noticed that myself as the traffic on the highways is getting worse lately (back to pre-pandemic times if not worse). As I still want to be able to work remotely full time in the near future, I'm just hoping that if I go the route (for right now) to apply for a fully remote job that they don't turn around 2 months later and say that I have to go into an office. Hopefully enough people as a whole will be able to keep pushing for remote work!
@TravelingwithKristin
@TravelingwithKristin 11 місяців тому
Always great to see your thoughtful comments, Scott! I agree that traffic has gotten worse again (although I think it will wane, long-term). The safe bet would be to apply with companies that are 100% remote. It's easier than changing an outdated company culture. And keep up your strategy of monetizing yourself through content creation!

Amazing and inspiring Kristin. I watched Charlie Chang half an hour ago interviewing you and now this video. I am a 62 year old man from the Netherlands and I want to be a Digital Nomad as well. So this was the second youtube Digital Nomad video I watched. I am not sure yet what I am going to do for a (Nomad) living. After watching this video I am thinking of 'online coaching' and, because my hobby is filming and video editing, something like content creator. I want to travel by car throughout Europe. It was always some kind of dream to travel and earning my living in some way. And now I am a bit tired of my job. I want to expand and do not want to wait till I am retired. Again, your video was very inspiring and informative. Thank you and God Bless Kristin. Kees from the Netherlands

Every time you put out a video, I get inspired. I'm currently an independent contractor working for a company out of Boston. I love what I do, but I'm fighting other independent contractors for jobs. I'm pretty much logged in to their site anywhere from 12 to 14 hours a day just to make my self-imposed daily goal. I've been doing it for about 6 years, and this job has allowed me to travel the US in my van and ultimately move to Portugal. But it's exhausting having to compete for jobs. Part of the reason I moved to Portugal is because of the low cost of living so I can still support myself while I try my hand at something else. Your videos always have such great ideas, and they leave me feeling confident I can find something where I'm not tied to my laptop every waking minute. Thanks for all the great information, Kristin!

However, I understand that the constant competition for jobs can be exhausting. I'm glad that my videos have given you confidence and provided you with great ideas for finding something that allows you more freedom and flexibility. Wishing you all the best in your pursuit of new opportunities and a fulfilling lifestyle. Thank you for watching and for your continued support! 😊🙌

Good video. Although I would like to say that the idea that “you never have to answer to someone” to be a digital nomad and earn income is not entirely true. As a UKpostsr you still have to answer to your audience as well as the developer team at The social media site. They still have guidelines. For example providing services to a client means you need to answer to your clients. Who are essentially your boss.

I've always liked the idea of the Nomadic lifestyle, but there's one element i can't quite reconcile. What is your opinion on people from more affluent countries working in cheaper locations and (inadvertently) displacing local populations, as they price them out of their home market?
@belle42
@belle42 8 місяців тому
We are being displaced in our own countries just as much as others are displaced in theirs. With the rise of rents and home prices people are needing to move further out from the high priced cities. But the problem is that the best paying jobs are in those big cities

Depending what field you're in, it can sometimes be easier to "create" that job for yourself. It can take some time, but it's more of a guaranteed route. What skills that you already use in your current line of work could you take online and offer as a service or to freelancing clients? Or how could you create a business around this?

@flaneurlife
@flaneurlife 7 місяців тому
@@realpeopleoftheinternet Yeah it's totally true. Countries definitely want the tax revenue, and that's why they are starting to clue in and offer digital nomad visas in so many countries around the world. Easier said than done but your own platform, product or service is the best path to getting there. If you can find a remote job that ties you over until you can ratchet up your income enough, then even better!

I know deep down that I am not a failure but I have always worked for someone else. Most of my really big failed projects came about from business people dictating to me on how I was to do a job or what I was to create. Often I knew it was a bad idea but if I wanted to work for them then I had to comply. Some people actually purposely set me up for failure because they feared that I would replace them. I have also failed in that my employer didn't want values such as truthfulness in honesty in their businesses but want me to bear all the consequences for their decisions and if I didn't do what they wanted they didn't want me in their organization. As a digital nomad have you ever ran into these sticky situations? Other than this concern, I really enjoyed the video and may look into some of these ideas. Looking for extra income after I would normally retire.

Thank you so much for this video, It was awesome! I have a couple different questions. I have been wanting to write some articles for a different Travel magazines and other publications. I have writing experience but have never published anything and have Nothing online. Is it best to start and create your own blog before you submit articles to a magazine? Or do you submit a bear bones idea or a completed article to a magazine or multiple ones to see who might be interested? I also want to start a Weekly online group with people, but I have not done that before personally. Do you have any ideas on how to start something and be honest about having it be a new endeavor and ways to work out any kinks with a trial group before really advertising it?

Hi Scarlett, I'm obv not Kristin, but I have some experience in the creative freelance arena. 1. You NEED to create a portfolio of some sort. It can be a blog, sample articles, etc. on a website. Your portfolio is your creative résumé. 2. Cold call/email editors/publications/agencies to let them know you're a writer. Be friendly and personal - no copy+paste templates. Tailor your outreach to the person & publication you're reaching out to. When you get no response (you'll get a lot), follow-up after a couple weeks/months. Don't spam them with calls/emails unless you don't ever want them to hire you. 3. DO NOT send out spec work, i.e., sample articles or idea pitches. First, you are setting them up to steal your work/idea without compensation. Second, if they want to hire you, they'll ask you to produce something they specifically have in mind. Once you've built a relationship with a client, then you can start pitching ideas to the editor. 4. When you start getting work, make sure you get your contracts. A contract lays out what you are going to produce and when and is also guarantee of work for payment that you can point to in case you need to file a lawsuit. 5. Similar to getting contracts, where possible, copyright your personal work. This prevents theft of your work and guarantees you higher compensation if you have to take someone to court than if you didn't copyright your work. (You don't have to worry about this at first, but will become beneficial as you do more personal writing.) Hope this helps! Good luck! P.S. I found another UKpostsr who talks about freelance writing called Location Rebel who has a lot of videos about how to get started.

Many "digital nomads" are stuck in old life style. Many companies offer flexible work arrangements. So I keep traditional "office job" but I can work anywhere (inc abroad) as long as I comply with tax/local law. I can also go to a local office if I want to. The work style is changing so fast.

TLDR: University or Travel? As someone who does not have a degree and is basically fresh out of high school, what would you recommend? Like basically no nest egg, no job experience outside of serving at a restaurant… Family and friends want me to stay in the US in the Midwest and go to college, but after some travel I figured out things could be so much better and I’m not sure I could take uni as seriously as I’d like knowing I could be elsewhere. Plus things are super chaotic in the states now and it’s expensive. I wouldn’t have any support, but I’m hoping I’ll create that in time. I’m really into environmentalism but suck at tech, thought about photography cause I was told I have a good eye for it but it seems like everyone is getting into that and social media. I don’t really feel like I have the personality for it either tbh for the social media aspect. I know I want to travel, but since I don’t have a skill set to make myself marketable yet I’m hesitant. So, do I go to school or do I just hop straight in? Also, concerned about medical care or not having a permanent address what that will mean/how is that usually handled as a nomad? I know this is long, but thank you to anyone who has advice

Great suggestions. The one thing everyone avoids is discussing the tax implications. Doing this type of work whilst considered "tax resident" in any "Western Country" will result in having to register in multiple tax systems, potentially pay multiple tax departments around the world and make it not worth the effort as the cost of compliance will rapidly outweigh any benefits. This life only works for those who are either genuinely living in a tax haven or for those who's governments don't tax foreign earned income (though the foreign government might). Please do a video addressing the tax implications because for those of us in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada or the USA, its quite the nightmare.

I’ve gone property nomad route. I’m letting my house to a professional couple which will give me more than I need to set up in Asia using India as a base.
