This Arduino-powered machine separates coins of different dominations and then tallies up their total value. This is shown on an 8 digit 7 segment display. Reflected infrared sensors (TCRT5000s) are used to detect the coins.

Can you Modify the upper part so that it will accept Euro Coins? For Euros you probably only need to change the size of the hole here are the sizes/diameters of the different Euro Coins if this helps: 1cent - 16.25mm 2cent - 18.75mm 10cent - 19.75mm 5cent - 21.25mm 20cent - 22.25mm 1euro - 23.25mm 50cent - 24.25mm 2euro - 25.75mm

Hey there! I'm exploring arduino from zero and can't understand at all. I want to make this with this components 6 TCRT5000, 1 LCD1602, 1 Arduino Nano, 1 220 Ohm (for LCD), 1 74HC595, but I'm not sure about resistance and voltage. It's ok if I don't plug-in resistance for each TCRT5000? How much Voltage should I use? I have been reading TCRT5000 datasheet, does it use 5v? If so, Should I use a 30v power source? Is ok 30v connected to Arduino? If anyone has any tips for a noob... Thanks!

@Electromakerio

That is hard to answer as all CAD software works a little differently. I'd maybe start by looking for tutorials for cutting circles using the software you have first, then applying it to these designs.

I think you should also put some more variables like lastbuttonstate and for all the sensors because we want every time the coin passes to increase by one (like pressing a button once) with this way even with the delay fuction it gets random data easily, just my thoughts : int value1 = digitalRead(pinIr1p); if (( value1 == LOW) && (flag1 == 0)) { count_c1++; sum = sum+0.01; flag1=1;} delay (debouncer); if (( value1 == HIGH) && (flag1 == 1)) { flag1=0; } Something like this
@Electromakerio

This is a great suggestion. If we ever build a version 2, we will be sure to implement this idea!

i made mulitple comments here, sorry for that but i have one more question. you used tcrt5000, which is a sensor detects reflective sensors right? but how come it was able to detect your hand?
@Electromakerio
@Electromakerio 2 роки тому
These kinds of sensors can reflect off quite a number of surfaces! While some struggle to reflect shiny objects like metal, the tcrt5000 can reflect off all kinds of objects (like people) and shiny things like metal. The creator of this project has a separate instructable all about the trct5000 module used here: www.instructables.com/TCRT5000-Infrared-Reflective-Sensor-How-It-Works-a/

Hi, Thanks for sharing the video, we have a different set of problem. we have coins minted (Old & New) with Old minted coins have different diameter as compared to New minted coins. e.g. Diameter of old minted Coin for denomination of Rs. 1 is different from Diameter of New minted Coin for Denomination Rs 1. Diameter of old minted Coin for denomination of Rs. 1 is equal to Diameter of New minted Coin for Denomination Rs. 2. We are in unable to build coin counting machine because of it. please assist us with the query.
@Electromakerio
@Electromakerio 5 років тому
Hi, that's a tricky problem to work around with this design of machine. It separates the denominations using their diameter. If you have two sizes for the same denomination then you could create a second slot and have the code increment the value on the screen by the same amount for either slot. If you have two different denominations with the same diameter then you will have to consider another method for differentiating between the two. You could consider magnetism, thickness, weight or colour perhaps.
@harminderkaur1089
@harminderkaur1089 5 років тому
@@Electromakerio Hi, Thak you for response, we did try to work it out using wieght but again found that wieght of Old Minted Coin of Denomination Rs ! is similar (1 or 2 Milligram less than ) to wieght of new minted Coin of Denomination Rs @. We have same finding for Thickness as well. Could you please guide on how to use Magnetism or Colour as a differentiator, I feel differentaiotion based on Colour will be tricky because the colout of Denomiation RS 1 & Rs 2 is same, also for Denomination Rs % & Rs 10 has same. Perhaps Magnetism can help. Composition of coins is as below Rs 1 --> Stainless Steel Rs 2 --> Stainless Steel Rs 5 --> Nikcle Brass Rs 10 --> Copper Nickel Cnetre & Aluminium Bronze ring.
@Electromakerio
@Electromakerio 4 роки тому
Colour can also change depending on the condition of the coin. Magnetism would be a good additional check but this is beyond the scope of this video - sorry. Perhaps in the future if we build a Mark 2 then we might incorporate some of your suggestions. Have a look at incorporating a reed switch into your design.

See what you've created is neat, tidy, well designed and works well. But I have a problem with it - or more specifically with you the designer. Given that the government / bank of england like to change our coins (and sizes) every few years, why have you not made a replaceable filter for the top for the coins? - or even better, an adjustable one? - Use some stepper motors and you could even have your sorter set them up automatically. At present, next time the coins chance, you've got to reprint the entire thing.
@Electromakerio

This is an excellent idea! If you build an improved version let us know - we'd be excited to see iterations that improve on it!

Can I use Arduino UNO
@Electromakerio
@Electromakerio 4 роки тому
Yes you can use an Arduino Uno. Connect it the same pins as shown on the Nano in the video. Just use longer wires as the Arduino Uno will not fit in the same space under the counter as the Nano - you'll need to house it seperatley outside the 3D printed parts
