Hey! If you build a home with the help of my tutorial, you can tag me #paszerine in the Sims 4 Gallery so I can check it out 💛 thanks again for watching! PS. I'm sorry if I make any errors in my speech. I'm Filipino born and raised, and sometimes I adapt to the way people pronounce English words in my country. I'll be sure to practice pronouncing words better next time.

I tried building a house after first making my dream backyard patio but I can’t seem to get it done. I worked backwards lol Anyway, do you think you can fix it? Just using my back deck that I would like to attach to the house with sliding doors leading into the kitchen? I wanted a basement and a second floor too. Lol

Sad reality 😂 I notice that sims tend to sit and eat where more people are. So if 2 sims are on the breakfast bar just chatting, the 3rd sim with a bowl of cereal will sit by that bar instead of the dining table

My biggest problem in the sims is always designing a house considering the outside first, and then making the inside floor plan as an afterthought. This leads to very poor interiors and really awkwardly placed empty rooms, so the fact that you explained this so easily helped a lot. Now I will put much more effort into my interiors.

When you're just not feeling up to any planning, you can just use the room tool to drag and make various boxes off of one big box! Then, if you want, adjust the walls inside and see what you can do.
@paszerine

That's actually quite helpful! It's nice to have one room connecting many others. A lot of ideas can stem from one box already

I struggle with choosing wallpapers. The exterior of my builds are so ugly, and my interiors are boring (I usually just use one neutral wallpaper throughout the build). I've asked other builders to make a tutorial on how they do it, but they've all ignored me. Do you think you can help me?
@ayaneagano6059
@ayaneagano6059 2 роки тому
I struggle the most with wallpapers too, it is LITERALLY the hardest part of the game for me and take quite a lot of trial and error to choose! Picking good windows for exteriors is also really difficult.
@abricant4049
@abricant4049 2 роки тому
what I usually do is start off with a light wall for everywhere and then when the rooms are coming together, see which colors you would like to accent by making the walls that color. typically, using colors from rugs, bedspreads, flowers, are all good because the color scheme stays in tact. you can do accent walls to make something like a gallery wall or the wall with the tv in the living room, for example, look more visually interesting. for kids' rooms, i typically go them in very different styles to the rest of the home with lots more color and different furniture. you can also do columns with walls as in a 1x1 room in the corner of a room such as the bathroom or living room and give that a textured wall for interest. for exteriors, i try to stick to the same undertones unless it's vastly different colors, like a red brick and blue paneling home looks good and normal but a home that had a warm brown and cold brown exterior doesn't work that well. again with color schemes, try to stick to a select few colors for cohesion. lots of homes will have one section that is brick/stone and the rest is paneling to change up the texture. i hope this helped a little!

Exterior tips: Small home: 2-3 wallpapers Big home: 4-6 wallpapers Cut of with a foundation Traditional: sliding, brick, Modern: stone, light, neutral/ or pops of color Interior tips: Kitchen/ bathroom: based of floor Living room: based on couch Bedroom: based on bed Keep colors on warm/ or cold, only next color or contrasting

Hi! I'm considering making a tutorial about this actually. More specifically on how you can combine in-game colors to use for your interiors. :) I'll be working on it
@toomessy

I struggle with wallpapers (and flooring) too! All my houses are white from the inside and out. I try to incorporate colors through chairs, books, kitchen-counters and all that, but It's still not enough. I physically cannot get myself to use yellow, blue, or any vibrant color (on my walls) without wanting to puke.

I noticed so many floorplans have foyer/entry going into the living room and it made perfect sense growing up in the UK, but since moving to northern Canada, it has become the bane of my existence! Children and guests inevitably track slush beyond the foyer, even taking their boots off. Too many people with messy boots in an entry will never keep their mess in the area prescribed to them! For a while I tried to just have hardwood floors in the living room and give up on rugs and carpets, but that was sad. All of the cozy was ripped from the living room experience. We finally built our own house and talking with the architect, we have our foyer open into the kitchen open to a wide hallway. It's so much easier to clean a kitchen floor and my living room has a cozy big, beautiful rug. We've loved it and more houses that get muddy and/or snowy weather should switch. Wish I saw more of this in Sim builds.

I always have had in my mind the amount of room Sims need to walk around things meaning the space they need so you don't end up with them waving their arm in the air because they can't get to the area you want them to.
@paszerine
@paszerine 2 роки тому
That's great! So long as they can still move in-between objects right?
@davidkonevky7372
@davidkonevky7372 2 роки тому
There's also an opposite that you have to consider. When making big houses in the sims, you gotta make sure everything is easy to reach and not that far just to reduce the amount of time your sims spend walking from one place to another. Of course, this doesn't mean that EVERYTHING needs to be close from each other, but you gotta consider distance if you don't want your sim to spend an entire minute walking from the kitchen to their bedroom.

A very thoughtful and inspiring video. Maybe it’s just me, but one thing I’ve noticed when downloading beautiful looking homes from the gallery is that whilst they indeed -look- amazing, they are often an utter nightmare to try and play in. I’d love to see a design video with tips that not only add to the visual but also the game playability. For example: plan your toddlers room to be as close to the kitchen as possible, so that they don’t starve to death when they wake up in the middle of the night hangry xD Or, when building, pick a camera angle to be the main one you will play from, maybe with the best view of passing neighbour hood sims and then try and construct the build so that the player doesn’t need to constantly rotate the build to locate things. I want to be stunning and yet also practical 😏
@paszerine
@paszerine 2 роки тому
THIS! That's definitely one of my pet peeves lol. I know exactly how you feel 😅 It's never enough to have a house look just pretty. It has to be functional and efficient too. I want to expand more on the topic about floor plans because one video isnt enough. Perhaps that can be a part 2 for this video

For using real floor plans I normally use 1 tile is equivalent to 2.5 ft squared. So I take the measurements and divide them by 2.5 to get how many tiles something is(rounding to the closest whole number). I then take a grid and lay it over to fit something that’s divisible by 2.5 (like 15’) just to double check that my numbers turned out ok. I then make my house in the sims to the my measurements but sometimes end up changing them!
@paszerine
@paszerine 2 роки тому
That's actually pretty cool! My friend and I tried figuring out the scale of tiles too and it's good that you figured it out. I think there isnt anything wrong with having to make adjustments in-game because the object are hardly to-scale 😅
@jana_a_banana
@jana_a_banana 2 роки тому
@@paszerine It took some time to figure out. Most people online say a tile is either 2 ft or 3 ft so I was like “maybe its 2.5??” Diagonal shapes in floor plans really helped me figure it out.

Thank you for the great tutorial! I usually just put the outside walls first and make the rest up as I go, but now I’m definitely gonna try the methods you suggested next time I build. They seem a lot more efficient ^^’ The one thing I really struggle with is where to put stairs. I always end up with weird hallways just so I can put them somewhere. I would also love some tips about choosing and placing roofs if you ever feel up for it. I love the ones you did in your builds for this video. I feel like as soon as my house isn’t just a rectangle, the roof automatically becomes an absolute mess.
@paszerine
@paszerine 2 роки тому
Thank you so much for your feedback! You can still do the outside walls first in your builds, and then use the methods I shared after :) like, take the outline of your exterior perhaps and draw it in graph paper, then just draw interior walls. You can also use the bubble diagram the way I did when I renovated the apartment in the vid :) As for stairs, hallways are fine as long as it's in an area where it's close to a social zone like the foyer or living room :) And thank you! I always find roofing a challenge so it's nice to know when people like my roofs. I'll consider doing that tutorial, perhaps when I learn more techniques

Honestly.. when it come to exterior, I let myself to be free for landscaping idea... but when it come to interior, especially bedroom: WHAT SHOULD I DO?! then listening to music is the best help for me. it's not as what I did (freely) with the exterior, but it's better than "30 minutes in blank space without any idea" *and that's the function of "undo and redo" button :D

Yeah sometimes I run into the same problem when I build 😅 but I find grabbing a piece of paper and doodling circles like a bubble diagram layout of the house to be helpful. Or if my brain isnt so cooperative, I call it a day and take a break. It just might be that tired 😅 glad music is helpful and inspiring for you!

You di a great job explaining thank you. One of the most inspiring floorplan is the one of the house falling water by Frank Lloyd Wright and the Barcelona Pavillion (the first open floorplan). But I find it hard to import those ideas into the sims.

Thank you! I am a fan of Wright and Mies van der Rohe 🥰 I think many people had tried recreating those homes in the Sims. You can always choose to use CC

I would've been frustrated with the unmovable elevator. I tend to like putting a closet in the entrance and a closet behind it for a bedroom and i just wouldnt know what to do there lol. I appreciate the ideas in the video

Great video! I like the open floorplan of the 3rd house best & that is the style I build most often. I would have done something a bit different with the 2nd floor of the 2nd house. I do sometimes sketch out floorplans before building & I found these suggestions really helpful. The bubble diagram messed with my head so I'm more likely to grab some paper & a pencil and lay a house out that way. When it comes to designing floorplans, do you find you have go-to room sizes you prefer? Last, but not least, I just started dabbling in stop motion and I'm finding it challenging to get the transitions right & am often unhappy with the angle. I'd love to see a video on tips for stop motion build videos.

Thanks for your feedback! I really appreciate it 😊 to be fair, these planning methods are always better done on paper, but for presentation sake I decided to share them using apps. The bubble diagram is the most efficient when it comes to space planning imo, and you can even transform (or evolve) a bubble diagram you made into a grid plan too to make it clearer. Yes I had someone mention that the rooms upstairs couldve been bigger, and thats fair too. I can make that bathroom a master bath, but I was bent on having the 2 rooms be able to share one bathroom upstairs 😅 No I never really have go-to room sizes, though we can all agree that square shaped rooms are the easiest to design in. On stop-motion, I will consider it most definitely! I have a tutorial for beginners already, but not one more advanced. I was also asked about camera angles and transitions so I may make a video on that 😊

I so agree with having bathroom on the ground floor. I hate when people make houses with no bathroom on the ground floor and you gotta climb the stairs to go use the bathroom. Or when it's one story house and the bathroom is only accessible from a bedroom.

Thank you! This was such a good video I'm a horrible builder. I tried building yesterday and it's just bad. I copied a floor plan and I'm starting to get it really good there but I can't get the outside to look good. I'd love a video about roofing and how and why mixing textures look good. I see that it looks good when it's done but I don't know why I can't figure it out.

Thank you so much! Glad to know this was helpful in a way. I guess if you struggle with the outside you can try to match it with how the interior looks. If it's modern in the inside, it can look modern outside. Same with suburban homes and cottages. I also find it helpful to have reference photos even if you just like one part of a house like the windows or in a different home, the shape of the roof or the front garden. You can try to make an interesting exterior out of that already :) And also thank you! I'll think about doing exterior tutorials especially roofing. Perhaps someday when I learn more techniques

I've seen so many beautiful buildings on the gallery. But many have the toilet placed somewhere only accessible through private spaces like kitchens, bedrooms and hobbyrooms. And I end up redesigning it so my sim's visitors don't have to wake up the toddler by stomping trough their bedroom on their way to pee.
