Well said there is always at least one internet troll who spends their time making good into bad just to get a reaction for their own kicks. Baking soda and vinegar worked for me much better than couple of other cooktop cleaners I tried. Couple of keys to success: let baking soda and vinegar compound soak for 30 minutes; use a sharp razor blade scraper. I went through 2 blades for 4 burner tops.

@@HoneyBunnyOnline no worries. If your method is working for you and you're satisfied stick to it. I find the lemon sliced in half and using the juice and baking soda works great for me. I'd forgo the steel wool at all costs. It really does remove the ceramicide on the glasstop that protects it. Hard to see by your eyes but eventually it will show through as it heats up. Darkened areas that should be bright red with heat. Too much negativity in the world to mistreat others because of opinion. Have a great upcoming weekend!

@@TheViplounger for tough cooked on areas I do a 2 step that I've found works tremendously well. If its tough cooked on I'll sacrifice an extra lemon. Roll it too loosen the juices before slicing it in two and squeeze the juice directly onto the area thats really bad and then sprinkle on the bsoda and let it foam nicely. If you have places that have serious build up use a plastic putty knife to gently scrape the area while your solution if foaming. To get a nice shine after and any streaks or residue I use a 3:1 mix of vinegar and water with a microfiber towel. Happy cleaning!

Knowing about bicarb and white vinegar since young that was my first option. Complete waste of time as it only mildly removed the mess and it wasn't even as bad as this! I ended up using a substance called Pink Stuff from the pound shop. Removed it with ease with just a damp cloth

2:54 I wouldn't use that scrubber. Especially if you live in a rented apartment and it's not your hob. DON'T use that. Here is what the manual of my V-Zug hob says: "Always clean the hob after use. This prevents food residues from burning on. Dried-on or burned-on food residue is harder to clean off. Use of improper cleaning techniques can result in damage to the markings or surface. Avoid cleaning the surface of the glass ceramic hob with abrasive cleaning agents, scouring pads, wire wool, etc. which can damage the surface. Use only a soft cloth or sponge with water and a suitable detergent for cleaning everyday soiling. Always follow the detergent manufacturer's instructions for use. Using a detergent with a protective additive is recommended"

I have used baking soda but never scrubbed with steel wool. I use a razor blade to GENTLY scrape off the tough buildup. Last few times, I used Barkeeper’s Friend with amazing results. I flip appliances, and it actually seems to work faster than baking soda paste. Sometimes, I will finish cleaning with glass cleaner and really wipe it down with paper towels or moist rag. I am not saying you can’t use steel wool. Just saying I don’t. If you use steel wool, be very careful how hard you scrub. For one thing, I would not want particles of the steel wool to get in the groove around the edges and rust.

I tried this on my mom's stove top when I dropped and burnt a TON of milk on it while it was hot and it was HORRIBLE. I knew she was gonna kill me if she saw it (and she actually did and was NOT happy). She was VERY confident there was no way I could get it all out cuz she has always had a hard time getting it all off. I promised I will and when I found this video IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!! Every time I encounter DIY cleaning hacks, the presenter always use the mixture of vinegar and baking soda. You can get a better result if using baking soda alone. Baking soda is Basic and vinegar is Acidic. Combining the two, they will neutralize each other. The reason you got some good results because you scrubbed it while the reaction was going on. You could have gotten a better result with baking soda/water paste alone, or baking soda/dishwashing liquid combination.
@HoneyBunnyOnline
@HoneyBunnyOnline Рік тому
Thanks for watching the video. I will try this combination as well. But as you rightly said, the reaction in soda bicarb and vinegar is the key. Also vinegar has degreasing properties as well.
@jssamp4442
@jssamp4442 Рік тому
I think what turns everyone giddy about the baking soda/vinegar combo is the bubbles. They think this is a sign that it is a powerful cleaning agent. Mixing Baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) and vinegar (dilute Acetic Acid) causes causes two reactions to occur, neutralizing the acid and base. The first intermediate reaction forms the products Sodium Acetate and Carbonic Acid. Then the carbonic acid decomposes into Carbon Dioxide and water. It is the carbon dioxide that results from the decomposition of the carbonic acid that makes the bubbles and other than perhaps some slight agitation action, this has little to no effect on cleaning. As you said, they would have better results using just the baking soda or just the vinegar alone without mixing them together. It never ceases to amaze me how smooth brained so many people are. They accept anything they are told without applying any sort of logical test to determine if it is reasonable. It's like nobody has a BS filter anymore.

I don't usually comment but it would be nice if you could put a statement saying that "use steel wool at your own risk, some cooktops are not anti scratch“. Instead of solving my problem, there are now additional scratches on my cooktop :(

You could alternatively use a microfiber cloth. It won't scratch it :)

VatorXavier2208 ummm, I think for princy m, it’s too late. Yeah, steel wool isn’t a great idea for most surfaces, it’s sort of used as a last resort, and as a general rule of thumb, only use it on either steel products, or glass products.

princy m this video is not meant to remove scratches in anyway, those will be there forever no matter what so it’s best to never scratch it. She said “soft steel” “not applying pressure”. It is a video on cleaning the grime stuck on ur glass top with non hazardous chemicals.

Ok this totally works. Was skeptical about it at first but it definitely works. Needs some patience!!! I didn’t use vinegar though because I only had sushi vinegar haha so instead, along with baking soda, I used lemon juice and it did its job!!! I rubbed a whole 20 mins but it was totally worth it! Thank you! 🙏🏽

I made tamales the other day on my brand new stove and forgot to check the water. It dried up, and tamale juice dripped into the pan, burned, smoked, and dripped burnt juice all over my new cooktop. It was a hard mess and looked stained, not just caked on. I looked up what to do, and every one mentions baking soda and vinegar. What I did was sprinkled baking soda all over, sprayed vinegar all over, and laid a wet towel on top. I let it sit over night. The next morning, I took the towel off and attached with rubber bands a new scotch brite green sponge to the end of one hand held mixer attachment, and went to town over the whole stove. I would hold it over the areas I knew were bad for about 10 seconds. It took everything off the surface (left the stove burner rings that are supposed to be there), and there is NO residue left (I closed my eyes and felt the surface too) except for maybe a couple of little spots that look iridescent, and you cannot see unless at a certain angle. The scrubber did not scratch the stove! (A steal one I think would though!)

Have you tried taking tea bags used for making hot tea, put in water after used to make tea, and let brew cold and it seems to cut through a lot and clean pretty well when you don’t have time to do a complete cleaning each time: also this gives a second use to the tea bags, and is good to use right after cooking when you don’t have time to do this kind of deep clean. I was amazed at how well it worked. Must be the acid in the tea.

Better, but definitely not completely clean. Still looks burned to me. I also cringed when you started scrubbing it with a metal scrubber.
@HoneyBunnyOnline
@HoneyBunnyOnline 5 років тому
Schelle7000 I know it sounds scary to scrub it with metal scrubber but most of the glass tops are scratch proof and even if they are not, the steel wool scrubber will not harm it... but I hope this method helps... as per me, it is one of the best methods to clean using natural ingredients..

Me too... I breathed so deep I nearly swallowed my tongue! I just used a microfibre cloth, lId it on the hob, poured hot water to soften, then took it to rinse, sprinkled bicarb, and used elbow grease to gently scrub with the microfibre. It's all shiny apart from the scratches the previous tenant caused by using cheap pans... :(
@jinaedinisci159
@jinaedinisci159 3 роки тому
@@PinkyFruitcake get a substance called Pink Stuff by Stardrops. Wet a cloth, stick your finger in it and grab a blob of the pink stuff. Rub in circular motions over the whole area. When you've done the whole area, rinse the cloth in cold water then use it to wipe off the pink stuff. You'll notice the difference

YIKES 😳 ..... WARNING: Do NOT do this! NEVER use any kind of wire scrubber, on your glass top! Ever!!!!! You WILL ruin it! A green scotch bright scrubbie is even a bit harsh (can create fine scratching, which builds up over time, and slowly destroys your glass top), but even a green scotch brite scrubbie is a million times safer than any kind of metal scrubbie. Your best bet is a brand new flat razor, in the case of stuck on food....... as for boiled on milk spills and such, vinegar and baking soda are best used SEPARATELY.... Vinegar does NOT activate baking soda, in fact, it deactivates it, because Baking Soda is highly alkaline, and Vinegar is highly acidic. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Go first with baking soda, a little water, and some blue Dawn Soap.. smear it on as a paste, and give it at LEAST 10 minutes to do its work, and break stuff down. After that, use a non scratch scrubby, to clean scrub out the surface with your mildly abrasive paste... AFTER cleaning with baking soda, wipe dry, and spray down with vinegar + a squirt of blue Dawn dish soap..... let that sit for another 5-10 minutes, and repeat the scrubbing process. Do not ever use any form of metal scrubby on your glass top..... all the advice here, is a bit of a mess (I don’t want to be rude, but we also don’t want people destroying their glass tops.)
