I can't belive these pretty high quality and high value in terms of knowlege videos are so underrated, I'm self learing about IT and just found this channel today, everything is explained pretty clearly and i do really enjoy watching things presented here. HI, Laptop with soldered in C drive- How do i erase the C drive if i need the operating system on it to do it and its all being erased? I have USB stick with ubuntu on it if that helps. If i do a fresh install, it only has option for delete not ERASE when you what to start fresh. Thanks

You could use one of these Redkey USB sticks if you can get your hands on one, it doesn't need OS on drive to run. Or if you have Windows install on a bootable USB stick then first do the erase from within Windows (which will also give you a fresh installation, but we'll wipe it again next) and then boot up from the USB and delete the partitions from the already-securely-erased drive. You could do that last step with either Windows or Ubuntu USB stick.

Nice video. Red key is great for an sata old style hard drive. But solid state drives need to be wiped in blocks. Red key has a pro version for the ssd drives. I myself use another brand sold on amazon. Destruct pro. The destruct pro usb key erases ssd's in blocks. For a one TB ssd, it usually takes apx. 10 hrs. The red key pro version is also good for ssd hard drives, but in the usa amazon claims it will take apx. 20 days to ship the product from great Britain.

From what I can see on their website - Home, Pro and Ultimate are using the same erasure methods. The big difference between the versions is the added ability to erase mobile devices. I've used both Destruct Pro and Parted Magic for secure erasing SSD's. I think Parted Magic is better
