Braised pork belly and eggs originates in China, but versions of it it can be found all over China and Southeast Asia, and wherever the Chinese diaspora have migrated to in the world.
Don't let the simplicity of this dish fool you, because it is good enough to grace the table of a king!

Thanks PH. You see this dish all over South China and the Malay peninsular, but I'm yet to see it on the menu of a British Chinese restaurant.

It deserves an outing to my newer viewers, it's a great recipe you never see in local Chinese restaurants, just those in the Chinatown districts of large cities. I love it 😋

Pork Belly is hard to find here, strangely enough. Yes, I want a slightly numbing sensation as I eat it! That's what a lot of regional good authentic Mexican recipes do. Beautiful set up of all the ingredients too, nice. As you cook, I can almost smell this dish. What a beautifully generous serving bowl of a meal for a family. That is one seriously authentic recipe Pete, thank you for sharing. Your range of cooking is sensational!

I guess it's all turned into bacon 🥓🥓🥓 Rivet, in which case it's all good 😋 I served for two years in Hong Kong from 82-84 Rivet, so I leaned a lot about Asian food. You have rather eclectic culinary skills yourself my friend. I love your recipe videos!

As an afterthought you can always use pork shoulder (pork butt?), cutting through skin and fat to keep it authentic. Pssst I used pork shoulder here but shush ☺

As for it being a fusion of Chinese red cooking and American bbq I’m not so sure as Meathead Goldwyn says in in his book Amazing ribs ‘ if you boil the ribs the terrorists have won ‘ Softness should come from hours in the smoker. Either way it’s a great recipe which has served me all for many years . I once poured and set fire to 45% pastis all over them prior to serving 🤪

Looks good, like the music. Good tip on the sherry instead of rice wine. ( My rice wine gets drunk when the beer and wine runs out, and it's a terrible drink. Sherry it is in future). Hope all is well Pete, somebody sent me this link, we used to work together in Don's Off Licence. Ha.
