One tackling technique I love doing that gets my opponents almost every single time is tricking them with a “fake tackle”. Basically you challenge the opponent by either gaining speed on them in their field of vision or by approaching them at full speed, making them THINK you’re going to go for a tackle, but instead, you brake for a quick moment, forcing a dodge from the opponent that gives you the opportunity to actually tackle them. Works like a charm, and it really messes with their heads lol.

@@ASIOFY247 its mainly fundamentals and timing that carries over for me. Shadowing, baiting, faking, predicting, leading etc. I wish Roller Champions had a quick chat and a scoreboard, seems like the only role that is rewarded atm is Scorer

I always love the motto be around the ball as much as possible and make as many plays on offensive or defensive as possible... gameplay is similar to football and basketball schemes like fast breaks, give and gos, options etc just gotta play % and will likely win if you have decent skill

You're 100% correct about shadow defending and fake challenges. In my 6 years of RL that's been the most useful skill to transfer to this game. Favorite clip was using it to defend and save the shot ... that was clean! Only thing I (maybe?) missed was tiptoe tackling, which may be less useful in games run at higher speeds. I think I only use it when I'm steadying under the goal and someone's coming to take me out 😅

Yea at higher levels you can just tap the brakes to fake challenge and quickly change direction instead of holding the brakes, this works at lot better against people travelling at faster speeds, there's an example at 1:10 where i come down from the wall and quickly change direction

The ball can also be tossed to you will in mid animation for the drop kick so it’s good for getting across the straightaways then immediately passing to a positioned teammate

You can dodge into the wall to get some height than pump down to the other wall, this should give you enough speed to do the normal jump technique shown in my 'Move Like A Pro' video

I got the game Saturday, and could immediately tell I was only making tackles because I was up against noobs. Person with the ball just has far too many options in a 1v1 against a defender. They need to nerf dodging or buff tackling. I personally think the game should be designed so you have to avoid defenders by using your joystick with clever steering. Not just spamming dodge or jump dodge.

By jumping on the sides with the ball then pumping down people can’t tackle you without waiting for the right moment. You gain speed and avoid any tackles, perfect for a beginner. Until you have to play against an experienced player, then you get tackled even with the hardest methods.

Sometimes when I get tackled the opponent steals the ball instantly but when I tackle it just knocks the ball out of their hands. How do you steal the ball?

I think it just depends on how well the tackle connects, Ubisoft hasn't explained why it happens though

You didnt really explain much about the dive tackle (double tapping after doing an uppercut) It should be used as a last resort. Lets say the other team is at their 3rd gate but you missed the tackle and everyone else is out of position. Instantly go for the dive. One time the other team did 3 laps and he was in position to score but i came from above and barely got the hit

I didn't want people using it too much, it's rare but sometimes it does work at the end but I didn't want newer players relying on it instead of trying to improve other areas of defending

Don't worry they're slowly improving! Solo q isn't the best option at the lower ranks, I'd suggest joining the Discord and find players that actually pass!
