In fact, portuguese also has genders really close to french, so if you don't know the gender of a word in french you can probably guess it from portuguese. Also brazilian :) Edit: also portuguese speaker, sorry if you're from portugal or africa, brazil is kinda predominant.

I'm from the US and have been learning Spanish for 8 months. You just get used to it honestly. With Spanish it makes learning other romance languages a lot easier.

Une chose qui m'a vraiment rendu fou avant d'apprendre la règle, c'est le fait qu'on utilise mon/ton/son avec un mot féminin s'il commence par un voyelle. Je voyais quelque chose comme "mon épouse" et me disais "génial, donc épouse est masculin, pourquoi pas", puis plus tard je voyais "une épouse" et je pensais que je perdrais la tête !

Très bon vidéo, il m'a plu et c'etait très interéssant de voir des règles differentes pour les genres des noms. J'ai déja eu le francais à l'école mais malheuresement j'ai oublié beaucoup de règles et de mots. J'ai commencé à "marathoner" (c'est pas le mot probablement mais je veux essayer sans chercher) cette chaine et je me suis rendu triste quand j'ai découvert qu'il y a peu de vidéos car c'est vraiment nouvelle! I speak Marathi.We have three genders.The problem is that some things have one gender in our language and different in other languages.This makes me confuse because I generally tend to use gender in my native tounge.Eg. Sac is masculine is French but it is feminine (पिशवी) in Marathi.So I use feminine article for Sac.

The same for me as a Polish speaker (apart from 3 genders we have an animate/non-animate and a personal/non-personal gender distinction). There are many differences, but most of the French words I'm able to figure out the right gender intuitively. They just make sense. Although in Polish it is much clearer - because the word engings always indicate the gender in an unambiguos manner.

Touché. English is actually very UNCOMMON among IE languages with its primitive grammar. Lack declensions, genders and nuanced messages in general. It is all very blunt. Still, we need to respect rules of "new" language, if we want to master it.

The rule I usually use, if it's a vowel at the end I'll use fem otherwise masc, even if you miss 20-30% of words, you will still manage through a french speaking group

Bit easier way: words ending in -e are usually feminine, and words ending in any other letter are usually masculine. Exceptions: -ion is almost always feminine, and -eur is often feminine. Similarly (as they note in the video), -age is usually masculine. There are other exceptions, of course. Perhaps look through a frequency dictionary and learn the exceptions found in the most used 1000 words (and build from there).

Je parle espagnol, et le plus souvent, les genres sont les mêmes dans les deux langues car les deux sont enracinés en latin. Ça m'aide beaucoup. Cependant, bien sûr, il y a des exceptions. Par exemple, en français c'est « la banque », feminine. Mais en espagnole, « el banco », masculin. Même s'ils sont clairement apparentés, ils ont des genres opposés.

C'est encore "plus relou" - selon Topito : Il y a même des mots qui changent de genre quand on les met au pluriel. P. ex. amour, délice, orgue sont masculins au singulier mais féminins au pluriel, c'est merveilleux ça, et vous dites que l'Allemand est difficil.

Quand j'ai entendu la phrase sur le magasin, j'étais confus d'abord. J'ai pensé «N'est-ce pas masculin? 🤔» Et j'étais fâché contre moi parce que je pensais que ma mémoire est nulle. Après, quand j'ai vu que c'est une faute comme une explication, j'étais très soulagé 😂😂😂

Il y a aussi quelques mots qui changent de genre en traversant l'océan Atlantique! Par exemple, au Québec, on dit UNE job et non un job! L'Office québécois de la langue française accepte UNE trampoline même si pour les francophones en général, le terme est masculin! Probablement, 99,9% des mots possèdent le même genre les deux côtés de l'Atlantique. Salutations!

3 people who always know exactly what you need: 1. God 2. Mother 3. Easy French I‘ve actually messed up with the gender part while on a vacation in France and realised it much later. Facepalms 🙈 PS: This was 2 years back when I was only 15, so people didn’t me give a weird look. Thankfully not the Emily in Paris kind of experience. 🙈😜

Vous auriez pu tout simplement dire qu'un mot finissant par "e" a beaucoup plus de chance d'être féminin. Et que toutes les autres terminaisons ont beaucoup plus de chances d'être masculines. Bien sûr il y a des exceptions (sinon ce ne serait pas drôle) mais c'est une bonne règle générale :)

Pour moi, c' est facile connoître lesquels substantifs sont masculin ou feminin. Si le substantif est masculin en latin, c'est masculin en français; feminin en latin, feminin en français. Latin a aussi le genre neutre, mais la pluparte des substantifs qui sont neutre en latin, eux-autres sont masculin en français. Comme de raison, y-y-a des exceptions: latin: pinus, feminine mais en français, masculin. Y-y-a aussi les noms de choses modernes. Avion, qui provient de latin ordinaire "avionem" (grande oiseau), c'est feminin en latin mais masculin en français. Autobus, qui provient de cas datif de latin "omnes", "omnibus" lequel veut dire "pour tout le monde", c'est masculin en Europe, mais feminin aux Amerqiues (au moins en Louisianne et au Québec---Haiti et Guyane Française, eje connie pas). Je suis hispanophone et je me suis rendu compte en étudiant le français et l'allemend, que bien que le français n'ait pas de règles claires pour savoir le genre d'un mot, exactemment comme l'allemand, je n'ai normalement pas trop de problemes avec le genre des mots en français, tandis qu'en allemend, je galère beaucoup. Je crois que c'est à cause du lien étymologique entre l'espagnol et le français, et même si ce n'est absolument pas le cas avec tous les mots, la plus part d'eux ont le même genre dans les deux langues, tandis que les mots allemands n'ont rien à voir avec les espagnols, ce qui les rend beaucoup plus arbitraires à mon regard hispanophone.

Si vous voulez gendrer moi correctement, if faut se poser stabilemant avec les jambes un peu écartées comme un combattant de Judo et crier de haute voix: "He-man, he has the poweeer!"
