Doesn't the MIMO config on that router cause issues when using three different antennas? From what I understand mixing different antennas ,especially to the extreme displayed here, will cause more issues than anything with a MIMO enabled router? Also on this particular router all 3 stock antennas are dual band, wouldn't attaching 2.4 only antennas cause issues in conjunction with the other dual bands at the same time?

Deep Diving into Wifi Signal Princples Altamonte Springs, FL (Nov. 19, 2020 6.30 p.m.) -- I'm doing research into wifi signal principles to better understand how my Alfa WifiCamp Pro 2 antenna works so I can configure the antenna placement in the best way. And to have reasonable expectations because I understand the limits and capabilities of the System. You may laugh, but right now I have the 9dbi stock antenna mounted sideways (horizontal) lengthwize on the roof of my van about six inches above the metal roof. This was done to avoid having the antenna stick straight up all the time and be at risk to being struck by trees and other low hanging obstacles. I am researching the best mount for the antenna, such as an motorized mobile antenna raiser system, which are out there, but at a cost. I did not loose reception of the signal all together. I am still able to park outside of a location and receive the signal reasonably well. I have lost longer distant reaches I was used to. But, that was a fair trade off. I also noticed, that I started picking up other locations vs the usual location when the antenna was pointed straight up (Now sideways). Today, also noticed (since I changed the horizontal direction from side to side ( same direction as the bumpers) at the rear of the vehicle ( and not I have it lenghwize from back to front. I still get signals, but other signals I never saw in the scan are poppinp up. I found this very interesting, and it reminded me that I have to get up to speed regarding wifi signal principles. Up to now I basically new that the 2.4 signal was better for distance, but bad or obstacles, and the 5 ghz signal was good for obstacles, but bad or distance. That became true when I was able to receive Walmart's signal at 2.4 very far away at the edges of their parking lots. So I had eviidence of the workings of the signal to use to better understand the principles. So now I'm deep diving this again, and stumbled across your videos to cover the concepts as presented, and engaging in I guess research 2.0 for wifi. Just getting to the level of understanding that there were commercial wifi extenders for vehicles was a lesson for me a few months ago or since the Corvid crises really started shutting down things, causing me to have to use wifi from outside my usual places like Starbucks or other places broacasting free wifi. So now I think, and given my hotspot reception results after having placed the Alfa antenna from straight, to sideways and rotating it in its sideways position, on top of the van (9 feet up), I now think understanding the signal's "shape" dbi strengths, and different types of antennas (omni, directional, etc). is my next area to get a better understanding of. That way, I can know I have the right size antenna, cable, mount, and position for the configuration for my Alfa. I would add, I also painted the white fiberglass antenna using black rustoleum paint, and recently read an article about metalic paint issues when painting antennas. Most of my roof rack and accessories are black, and I prefer not to have my roof accessories screaming for attention. Hense, the black paint. A couple of quick questions: 1. I'm looking to separate the "tube" from the "antenna" in my Alfa kit. This will alow me a sleeker antenna mount (only a cable leading to the antenna), not having the larger tube being directly attached to the bottom of the antenna. Also, the tube converts the connection from the antenna to USB cable, which is routed to the Alta router/repeater device. What I would like to do is attatch a cable to the end of the tube, and run that to the exterior of the vehicle to the antenna mount location, and directly to the antenna. The tube will then be mounted inside the vehicle at an appropriate location. Question: What types of connections, cables would I need to go from the tube to the antenna. What size cable (to avoid signal degrading), and connectors. Should I also shorten the long 20ft usb cable since I am no longer using that for the signal. Or, is there an advantage of keeping the USB cable as long as possible because of that may be happening at the tube end. Perhaps, converting the antenna signal to digital with less loss than using the RF cable? 2. Also, what exaclty is happening to he fiberglass 9dbi antenna signal when I mount it sideways instead of up and down? I still was picking up signals, and why? 3. If I'm looking at this correctly, eventhough the large antennas mounted up on the roof of the structure in your video may "reach" the devices within their sectors, the device still is only "transmitting" its data at its standard little antenna. Doesn't the device have limited capabilities to transmit back information to the large antennas? In other words, I could receive without question the strong signal from the source using the upgraded antenna (a video stream perhaps), but would my device have difficulty reaching the antenna if I were to try to upload a video to youtube? My antenna on the computer is still the same limited radio/antenna setup it always was. So I'm thinking there must be something else going on as well other than just transmitting, but in the receiving capabilities of the larger antennas. They are both transmitting AND receiving week signals Ilike fom my computer). Is that correct? And Why? Look foward to your comments.

Yes, this is mostly done on 2.4GHz. It's really the best option for long range applications. It's a lower frequency than 5GHz which would allow it to penetrate further through obstructions. Hey, yes it can be done. For boosting cell signal only you can install a cellular amplifer which I talk about in this video: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/n2N7g6CJnGh81aM.html / We also work with a company that does rural internet off cell towers. They are: 4gantennashop.com/

Hi, my router has 3 fixed antennas (tenda f3), can i with a little bit of soldering to attach an sma connector and send one antena on my balcony with 40-50 meters of sma extension cables or coaxial cable? And one more thing, if when i try to do this i fail and one antenna stop working properly , can the router work with 2 antennas? is that posible? Thanks a lot! :)

Yes all that is possible - but it probably safer to just get a better router with detachable antennas.

Very informative. How far can you extended your WiFi using this technique? Or how far can your WiFi signal reach? I’m quiet new to this, just trying to learn and get an idea before I move back at my home town overseas. since I know that WiFi there doesn’t reach very far when you have a big property so I decided to get some ideas. Thanks in advance guys.

That will work, however with your plan you will need to have 1 antenna per camera since it is so directional. A better option would be our 11dBi omni or maybe a sector panel with a wider spread.

Hopefully you can help us out. We attend a boarding school, and we are allowed to use the wifi provided in the common area. Coverage is good around the 30 feet around the placement of the router in the office, but our dorms rooms are about 35 feet from the router, and those that have rooms very close can actually use the wifi at night if they approach their door. We have been trying for them to increase the range, but it is just something they don't want to do. Is there a way, or a device, that will allow us to pick up the signal from the 40 or 50 foot range? We were thinking of adding a wifi extender, but there is no power outlets in the common area we can use for this. Could you give us some ideas, or direct us towards how to solve this problem? After that we can just add repeaters every other dorm room or so... You will have a lot of great full kids! Thanks in advanced.
@SimpleWiFi
@SimpleWiFi 6 років тому
So the quickest, cheapest and easiest way is to use a USB adapter on your computer. This will increase the reception power of the computer the USB adapter is connected too. In order to get more signal for other devices, it becomes more complicated and expensive. www.simplewifi.com/collections/usb-adapters/products/usb-adapter?variant=43721877647 Check out the Simple WiFi N700. You can than use indoor omni-directionals or directional panels for even more range.
@thebigogre4704
@thebigogre4704 6 років тому
The problem with that is that the computer we use always has to be on, and that we would need a secondary card to retransmit the data to other rooms and other kids, and that would make us dependent on the 2 guys that live in that first room and if they are in their room and that they actually leave their device on and so forth. What we need is a real solution to expand the coverage for all, and we are all willing to chip in, so at 10 dollars a pop 78 students, assuming that most give, we can pool 500US very easily. So is there another solution for that first step? After that we can just add repeaters to get the signal to the end dormrooms.

Yes. The router will determine what the antenna can do. In this case it will grab signals and repeat them through other antenna ports.

Great content. My question is about receiving a signal not sending it out. There are lots of trees between me and the ISP towers. I am about 2 miles from the two closest towers. In order to improve my reception, my ISP suggested installing an receiver/antenna about 500 feet from my home. There is no electricity at that spot. Is that the best option for me? If not, please offer a better solution. Thanks.

the router sends 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz signal at the same time over the attached antennas? So the router detects which antenna is the 2.4 GHz and which one is the 5 Ghz, when they are both attached to the router at the same time? So is it possible to set up a long range wifi connection with a 2.4 GHz and a 5 Ghz antenna attached to my WRT1200AC at the same time?
@SimpleWiFi
@SimpleWiFi 6 років тому
Yes, all dual band antennas are essentially really 2 antennas ( 1 for each band ). The router inside has 2 radios ( 1 for each band ) and they "combine" together at the feedline for the connector to allow for 1 physical antenna to work on both bands. Hope this was clear - let me know. =)

SimpleWiFi so can i plug for example a tp link 2.4 ghz parabol antenna on one of the antenna outputs of the router and another 5 ghz antenna on the other output? Now on the router are two different antennas attached (different frequencies). Does it work? Moreover can I send a file via the long distance connection on both frequencies over these two antennas then at the same time to compare for example?
