One thing I always tell myself to remember is "I am in bed, going to sleep". So the very next moment I find myself out doing something (school, driving, pacing around) I can stop myself and think "wait, this isn't possible because I LITERALLY just laid down to go to bed." and that is when the lucid dream becomes unlocked. I usually use this technique when I'm taking a nap during the day or during the wake back to bed thing in the mornings cuz its way easier during these times due to the mind being more awake.

Step 1: Set the intention- After getting in bed, tell yourself that you’re going to wake up and recall your dreams. Step 2: If you wake up in the night and remember a dream, try to recall the details. If drowsy, do something to wake up a little. Step 3: Then go back to sleeping but first tell yourself that you’re going to recognise that you’re dreaming. Focus on this intention, eg like going to the shop to buy something. Step 4: Combine focusing on the intention while reimagining the dream as if you realised you were dreaming. Step 5: Repeat steps 3&4 to solidify the intention then allow yourself to drift into sleep

I got close last night using MILD I fell asleep, woke up around 3:30 AM, remembered what I was dreaming about, spent 10 minutes scrolling my phone to be less drowsy and more alert, then I went back to bed while repeating "I will lucid dream tonight" in my head. What actually ended up happening though is that I had a dream where I was recollecting other dreams I've had. I figure I was really close because thinking about dreaming while you are dreaming is exactly what you want. I just forgot to do a reality check.

Well, I'm back home now from golfing and this video was very entertaining! I was sitting here giggling a bit (especially at the milk part due to how "going out to get milk" has become a meme now). Heck, it even got me to take my mind off of a very subtle headache I have! I never have really known what MILD was, only that it was a technique. Sure, I knew what it meant and roughly a bit of what it was, but I had never really paid attention to it as I have developed a distrust to anything "ILD." A second watch through may be good but I think I've done this without knowing at least twice successfully (maybe more but two occurrences at the top of my head at the moment). I'll have to try it out for sure! Great and entertaining video Mr. Portal Man (you still run the Portal channel so technically I can still say that)! Even though the time through me off a bit (and slight worrying about it), it was still fun to watch in after I got done sporting. Can't wait for the future and livestream tomorrow!

Thank you Daniel!! I watched this video right before going to bed, and set an intention to wake up during my dream at night (having doubts but shaking them off), then slept only to wake up about 3-4 hours later, which is very unusual for me!! I was so excited that it worked, but I kept my calm and focused on affirming that next time I drift back to sleep, I’ll remember I’m dreaming while replaying the last thing I remember from my dream in my mind. As soon as I started dreaming again, I REALIZED I WAS DREAMING RIGHT AWAY!! I actually couldn’t keep calm and woke up, like I usually do. But I didn’t give up. I repeated the same thing I did when I woke up earlier, re-entered the dream, then I started spinning around to stabilize the dream… and it worked too! I kept my calm, and instead of doing anything crazy like flying or something (again, like I usually do), I observed my surroundings and started making small changes to it (mainly re-coloring the walls and furniture)… Only to think I woke up while I was still dreaming 🥲 A part of my subconscious wanted to do a reality check, but I was so convinced I was awake I shook it off until I actually woke up. I’m so happy and excited to attempt this again tonight!! Thanks a bunch!! 🫶

Have you done it yet? If not, I hope I can help. I'm not the one you asked, but I can give some advice. How long it takes to lucid dream varies person to person, so no one can give a definitive answer on how long it should take. Some people take months, others do it 1st time they try. You should keep trying with different techniques (change it once every 1 to 2 months if it's not working). With that many reality checks I'm sure you'll get it sometime.

For me it often goes that I set my intention to "wake up and recall" then I always wake up around 5 hours later, but often can't recall anything. Hi Tobias, from what you've described it doesn't sound like what you're experiencing is hypnagogia - as it is incredibly unlikely for it to last hours on end. Realistically it's a very transient state that wouldn't last more than 20 minutes maximum, but more often maybe 5-10 minutes. It's likely you're entering into some kind of visualisation reverie, so essentially very vivid imagination. However, hypnagogia and dreams are not generated by the same processes as imagination, and visualisation can often interrupt and stall the formation of dreams. Hypnagogia is an entirely passive experience, not at all self-generated, and it happens regardless of our intentions. Either way, it sounds to me like you're focusing far too much. A better approach is to be very passive, and observe whatever the mind comes up with. This doesn't have to include hypnagogia or anything interesting at all (it can be as exciting as boring darkness and stray thoughts), dreams can often form in an instant with absolutely no transitional states. It is not our job to make dreams happen, we just need to not interrupt the process. Our job is to maintain a low level witnessing awareness regardless of what happens. I hope that helps.

Just set an intention that you’ll wake up and genuinely believe that if you actually wake up, then it’s a sign that you’ll actually lucid dream tonight, while if you don’t, then it’s not meant to happen that night. But trust that it’ll happen eventually! Right after watching this video, I personally set the intention and went to sleep, only to wake up at night just as intended!!

I don't really care about what the book says. What is the technique used in scientific settings when they conduct studies on lucid dreaming inductions? What is the most effective method.

what if you dont wake up in the middle of the night?

The interesting thing with this technique is that not everyone wakes up in the middle of the night and recalls a dream. Some just wake up after sleeping a full night and can recall some dreams.
@LucidDreamPortal
@LucidDreamPortal Рік тому
Actually that's not quite correct. Almost everyone has a brief awakening after a rem period. Only most people forget. That is why one has to set a strong intention before sleep. Don't believe it? Try recording yourself sleeping. You'll be surprised.

Ever since I started MILD (6 weeks ago) I've been waking up like clockwork about 5 hours after going to bed. Just by firmly setting the intention it seems to happen like magic. It's weird, I'm aware now that I probably always did wake up at this time, but just turned over and went back to sleep and forgot about it (along with the dream I'd just had), but by setting the intention you possibly have maybe 5% more awareness when you do wake up, just enough to pull yourself out of the sleep haze if you're motivated enough.
