I have done it, here are two important tips : drill holes before you cut the casing. Make sure to put alot of silicone and that the holes are outside of the silicone. Really put alot, even if you get access silicone dripping out.
@mels8966Рік тому
I think the plastics used in drum tubs are typically polyolefins like polypropylene and PET, which are plastics that most stuff including silicone doesn't adhere well to, although you can buy adhesives designed to bond polyolefins, or a polyolefin primer which modifies the surface to allow other stuff to stick. Don't use a primer + superglue combination as cyanoacrylate is not water resistant. The type of plastic should be marked on the tub to aid recycling.

You can use the old bearing to drive in the new one and clean the shaft a little with emery cloth before inserting 👍🏻
@mels8966Рік тому
A socket that's a smidge off the diameter of the bearing so it rests on the outer ring of the bearing also works well if you've got one large enough.

@flippinheckРік тому
Clean the drum and casing first, spindle too, spotless they need to be, to drive the bearing in use a 12mm bolt and big penny washers to clamp them and squeeze into the hole no hammer needed, and to pull the spindle through again washers and a socket plus bolt don't risk cracking the casing, the seal is better if you use a PU seal like tiger seal.

@@balancemotorsport8664easiest way would be to get them out first then measure the internal and external diameter along with the thickness. Just type the dimensions into Google and you should find it easy enough. Don't worry about it being specifically for washing machines, just "sealed" bearings

After watching this saga.. After the first screw the whole lot would have gone straight to the dump .. Clothes in it included 😀

You're hoping the thin silicone seal will tolerate the spin and heat cycles without leaking, never mind potential air leaks to interfere with the pressure switch and drum filling. I would not feel comfortable leaving this repaired washing machine alone while I'm out. Would it not be possible to plastic-weld the drum closed again, at least the seal would be durable?
@kelvinhopes8410Рік тому
I'd use Gasket RTV.. Resists oil, coolant and fuel up till 250 degrees. Even your sump on your car is most likely sealed with the stuff, it's pretty amazing. This stuff he uses.... not sure lol

You shouldn't leave your washing machine on when your out period😂 I get what you mean though regarding the seal. As someone who plastic welds every other day at work, I thought similar about remelting the edge once done for extra security. A soldering iron can be used as a DIY method to seal both halves after bolting and siliconing

4 inches space between holes.
@mels8966Рік тому
Just take the element out if you need access to clean sediment out of it. I do an empty wash with anhydrous citric acid to remove limescale and grease. Washing soda may be better for mould. I have once used chlorine bleach (don't mix with acid) to tackle an extreme case of stinky mould caused by exclusively using liquid detergents in the wash many years ago. I now mostly use powders which prevent mould as they pretty much all contain oxygen bleach.

Hi! Firstly, very good!!!..👍🏻 But I would like to ask you... For a job of this kind, which to me seems anything but simple and fast, therefore including labor and part/spare parts, done by a specialized Multi-brand technician, (and therefore by a professional, and not by an impromptu under the stairs of his house... ) how much would it cost today 2023??...... Because in my opinion it is better to get a new bath group.... Or am I wrong???... Also because, in any case, opening it and redoing everything would nevertheless be something "botched," with possible errors (because it can happen...) in the work of the technician himself, which the customer would never find out about, and therefore not actually comparable with a completely brand new bath group, and therefore from the factory, made with computerized numerically controlled machines. Also because, moreover, we must take into consideration the fact that if, for example, the bearing needs to be changed, it must in any case be said that the cruise (which is perhaps still "healthy"... ) has in any case made its working life, and therefore it could break (as happens many times) shortly thereafter, and therefore what to do?....Reassemble the whole washing machine again, extract the whole tub group, and reopen the latter again, to weld the cross, or replace the drum (basket) with a new one, and insert it on an old, messy tub?..... Which by the way, being this in any case in porous plastic, although previously cleaned, is in any case aged, and ruined!.... Personally it seems to me something truly anomalous, if not silly, and therefore incomprehensible, but above all I believe that it is not convenient under any aspect, (cheap in the first place..) form, and place. On the other hand, perhaps a different thing could be for a tub that is still in plastic, but one that can be opened from the factory, even if it must be said that even for these that can be opened, the problem of aged plastic, and ruined by time and prolonged use, would not be solved . Completely different situation, possibly for steel tanks, which are "eternal" and easy to clean and therefore "eternally new." what do you say...... I wait for you.... Bye thank you!
@mrmr3289Рік тому
One one hand time consuming, potential errors, other parts coming to end of use; DIY repair can be cost effective, more eco friendly, enjoyable and simple process. Not keen on the glued drum, would avoid these for maintenance ease.
