@dlewtweentorla1210Рік тому
Four sides of the wooden peice, add a higher grit to each of the other three sides. rotate the wood one turn and repeat till al foour ar complete. Beacuse he's using two sided tape, wouldn't be hard to take the four peices off and go another four of even higher grit. if it were me the final four would be 6000 to 12000 grit micro mesh pads. they would finish off the blade razor sharp. Don't skip too many grit steps between or will not end well. if using multiple grits this system truly could be a time saver whle keeping the sharpening angle consistant, great idea if done right. Then finish off with a piece of leather. Cheers

"per se" is a great way to qualify this video! I mean, the idea is sound. It IS a great means to create a sharpener... But... "I'm still alive in this new post-apocalyptic world, and this is all there is" _(minus the drill)_ 😁 In those cases, I suspect a knife that is dull as hell, WOULD get sharper from this! heh But, indeed, better to wait a couple days or a week, and order a proper one online!
Cool hack but that's not how sand paper works. If you sharpen with sand paper, you have to move the sandpaper from the spine towards the edge. Otherwise what you're doing is dulling the blade while shaving the aluminum oxide off the paper. If you're using sandpaper to sharpen, you need the block to be at least as long as the blade. The end result is slightly less sharp than using a stone of the same grit. Ceramic would be better for the final pass. The direction doesn't matter when using ceramic. This could be the backside of a ceramic tile, the ring at the bottom of a ceramic plate, bowl or mug that doesn't have the glass coating or a ceramic sharpening rod is around $2. If you use a tile, it must be one that's flat on the back, not the grid pattern.

when you can't afford a $10 knife sharpener
@outkast937Рік тому
You need a non deformable surface. That double sided foam tape and sandpaper is making a rounded chamfer, not a straight one. Learn how knives work.

for everyone worried about angle of the blade or for those saying this would work, the biggest problem is actually the radius he's working on from that pivot point. and yes, this will just wreck anything you try sharpening... unless it has the same radius as the radius where you are pivoting from i guess

@mgmnfld3109Рік тому
Thanks for the idea. I can't keep a consistent angle by hand to save my life...lol. It's worth a try at least. 👍
@picax8398Рік тому
save yourself from this and use a lansky fixed angle sharpening kit
@mgmnfld3109Рік тому
@@picax8398 Thanks for the tip. However, I'm not thinking about sharpening fine kitchen knives. I've no doubt that a professional sharpening system would be superior to this setup. I'm just looking for a cheap ( basically, free ) method of sharpening pocket knives and such. If it doesn't work, I'm not out of pocket for trying.

If one has the sharpest knife, it doesn't need more sharpening.

Unbelievable, the perfect sharpening system for those with air between their ears.

This guy designed this specifically for my knives so I could get a start lol

"how to sharpen the sharpest knife" proceeds to take 3 passes to cut through a tomato...

Just use the bottom of a ceramic mug. The unglazed "ring" on the bottom edge works great to sharpen a knife.

This will put an end to me buying a new knife every month.
@usedcarsokinawaРік тому
Wow! I use 600 to shape my marking knives before I get to sharpening. LOL

Put finer paper on the other sides of the block, most people have food hammers anyway so this can't make them any worse!
@moxee33Рік тому
Excellent idea 👍
@rupe53Рік тому
I was just thinking to use 400, 800, 1200, and maybe 2000 wet paper. Mark the wood for easy ID.
@michaelschutz5817Рік тому
@garyjones7044Рік тому
How else are you supposed to smash your tomatoes if you don't have a food hammer.

Wet grinding paper. Always use water. You'll be surprised 😮 Great idea this installation 🤩
@kurtsalm2155Рік тому
Rube Goldberg would love this.
@brokenarrow7621Рік тому
Don’t do this to your knives
@fiapo3104Рік тому
@viniciusdon6147Рік тому
@jameshoffman1842Рік тому
I am going to make one for myself as well use a 2x2 and you have 4 sides for four different grits of paper or stones...👍🔥
