Great video. I learnt two valuable tips from this - swinging from left to right with a clockwise spinning trimmer, and not moving too close to the brush (grass). Works wonders and makes my life a whole lot easier. Looks like I’ve been doing it wrong all this while. Many thanks.

Tried to find a video on advancing the string and after many fruitless searches, found it on here using the 'bump' method. It wasn't explained in any video that I've found up until now. Also, the clockwise/counter-clockwise operation was a great tip. I have a DeWalt 18v strimmer because that's what drill I have but I guess the operation's just the same. Thanks.

Did you get the power load - I always recommend that model for people who have struggled loading string - check the link above, it's on sale....
@Fee.1
@Fee.1 Рік тому
@@Kitearmy did they come out with the power load after the bump? Is it a pricier version or something ? Otherwise I don’t get why they sell both. Milwaukee looks like it has a solid system for easy accessory changes but otherwise is pricy among that type. What would you recommend for a flower bed that’s filled with basically ivy like weeds. Just jam packed. A shrug trimmer attachment (I’m going this route regardless for this overdue cleanup) but the included string seems to barely put a dent in it. It’s not like it’s very thick. It’s like the size of a 18 gauge wire or something. But it’s incredibly dense, like it grows in a very dense group and the vine itself is very dense & not fragile greenery but very strong brown & vine like. It honestly feels like squatting down and using a hedge trimmer would be far more effective and quicker for sure. Actually wishing I had picked that up before the string trimmer now 😂 Is there string/line that’s stronger or more slicey etc…and do you want thinner line for stronger growth because it slices through it easier, or heavier line because it’s stronger than the growth and less likely to break. Or none of the above.

Great job on walking forwards one of the few pros I've seen do that. I know there is a natural tendency to go backwards but still can't believe how many do it which is a total trip hazard and makes it harder to eye a straight edge line!

Great pickup - I don't know if i remembered to mention that
@MrStrez2
@MrStrez2 2 роки тому
Strangely we pros favour pushing the debris towards the body. Our main priority is limiting the amount of ejected debris. In the video you can see debris ejected towards the fence, on a commercial job this is hazard. The guard is designed to operate in this orientation. typically we are wearing shin guards, face shield, and heavy trousers so the main guard is the first line of defence then the body is the second line of defence.
@philgraves4998
@philgraves4998 2 роки тому
@@MrStrez2 Yes definitely best to have trimmer shoot everything towards the ground and your feet. I wear really tall boots so most debris hit that and don't shoot out towards people, cars, houses, fences or anything. In order to do this I walk right behind the spit path of the trimmer and basically let it pull me along in a line.
@Kitearmy
@Kitearmy 2 роки тому
@@MrStrez2 I get that - this is advice for most home owners who do not want to get pelted with grass and rocks
@andrewswinton1319
@andrewswinton1319 2 роки тому
@@MrStrez2 agree, I think of it as a mulching cut as you recut the debris as you walk over it. Its also better cause you can see what you've cut and easily do bits you've missed, unlike walking forward where you walk over your work. You get a soother finish too, less tiger stripes and hacky looking. Stihl FS450 is my daily tool, but I've got quite a few Stihls, not sure about those electric trimmers yet, but perfect for the home owner.

If you prefer to work without the trimmer guard, I've noticed that it will allow up to eight inches of string on each side of the trimmer head. More than that, and the electric motor shuts off momentarily to protect itself, e.g., overloading or overheating. If you tap out too much string, snip the length back to 8-inches or slightly less, and you're good to go. 👍👍👍

I really like the EGO stuff! and loved the video! that being said I think your example of a string trimmer that is a hassle to wind wasn't the best example, mainly because you used an easy load head by Milwaukee, having used that unit it is not a hassle to load string. Tip #3 is subjective. I found it best to edge against the spin of the string it makes the cleanest cut and also the string doesn't propel the head of the weadeater when you make contact with the ground which can gouge the grass. If you're going to trim with the spin of the string it's best to do it walking backwards to avoid debris flying at you.

Biggest tip here is in which direction does the head rotate. This will save windows and car windshields etc from being broken. I know some take the guard off but to me that's a no no. Reduce the guard down for edging purposes only, so you have a better sight line whilst doing so. When mowing tilt the strimmer slightly off level in the direction of the cut, so cutting right tilt right and back left on return sweep. ALWAYS wear eye protection and long trousers or pants, as you call them and proper footware...Not sandles. I have used Strimmers and brushcutters for over 30yrs on commercial and private properties. I have seen quite a few accidents in that time so treat these machines with respect. Stay safe everybody.

Now if I could only get a guard/deflector that would let me trim right up to hedgerow stems. A tree trunk is "easy" since you can walk around it. The hedgerows are another matter - especially when they are a random pattern of plants - and sometimes a "double row" of plants. EdgeIt Pro looks like it might work or simply a stationary disc to keep the trimmer head just far enough away to not damage the stems.

Simi pro... Used to do it as a full time job but for a few years and years way back... I don't use a guard because it hampers the performance of the machine like one commented treat it with respect, respect others around and property, it goes a long way. Second...Being at six foot, I prefer to widening the handel all the down do to the fact, handling and feel of not having my arms close together, specially in tall grass more so tall weeds wear I'm welling it back and forth all day... Works good like that on hill side to as you'll find yourself lifting it up quite a bit...

So, I have what is arguably the most idiot-proof outdoor tool I have ever owned...a string trimmer with a rapid refill line. I was going through INSANE amounts of line and I hated trimming before I watched this. It used to take forever, and I was always getting hit hard by knarly long weeds and rocks and stuff. I never thought to look at the direction it was going in...lol. I just did my entire front yard, including all the trimming near the street -- which I never do -- and it took about 30 minutes instead of the whole morning. Now I can WALK and let the trimmer work. @Kitearmy 3 роки тому
The charger is a smart charger and will go into a trickle maintenance mode if you leave them on - I use min so often the longest they probably sit on the charger is about a week

Nice you show a Milwaukee hard to load when it's just as easy as Ego only it requires manually twisting the head to get the string in.
@Kitearmy

Not really as easy: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/qqCAqoGNsGllxHU.html

@@Kitearmy yeah but it's way easier than manually doing it like you showed on the Milwaukee head. Line up the red dots, slide string through, twist.

Thanks for the video but Is there a way to edge with the trimmer so that the debris lands on the lawn and not the sidewalk ? Would be great so that I can just use the mower after. Less clean up.
@Kitearmy

That is a good question - will look into that

You forgot to add the 8 years of schooling at loserville U that really puts the “pro” into string trimmer technician. The two rio grande swimmers I got are wizards on the string trimmer. You could learn a lot from them .

I didn't realize my EGO multi attachment spins CCW. It's a good thing because by default, I stand on the right side. I don't think I got it in me to get used to holding it on the left side.
@Kitearmy
@Kitearmy 3 роки тому
Yeah - the EGO multi-head is the only EGO trimmer that is a CCW spinner. It's good that they have both directions if someone has a preference.

Great video. How is the telescoping feature holding up? Does it seem like over time it will stay snug and not have the green plastic clamp break? My wife and daughter are shorter than me and it seems like the perfect trimmer for multiple people.
@Kitearmy

Thanks mate - I don't see that being a problem at all. Here is the link to the review: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/qqCAqoGNsGllxHU.html

A tip that you didn't mention that not alot of weedeater operaters know about is the underhand throttle grip. It's better for wrist fatigue and weedeater control. As well as it levels the head of the weedeater for a more effective pass. Your throttle hand is palm facing up with your thumb on top and your throttle using your middle and ring finger

To fix the string issue dunk your roll of string in soapy water and it makes it straighten when it comes out and also makes it cut a straight edge instead of looping out
