This circuit was rather interesting, because every time I would reset the circuit breaker it would snap back with a spark and a buzzing sound. This is not typical for a bad breaker. This video covers how to troubleshoot circuit breaker tripping & testing.

I’ve been troubleshooting a ground fault in my house literally all day long. I was laying in bed, defeated about not being able to figure it out. I watched your video and realized I had a line running out to my barn. I walked out there (in the dark lol) and found it right away. You’re the man!

Good work brother!!!! I’m a union journeyman inside wireman commercial/industrial. Like u said at the end of it the video about being an installer and also knowing how to troubleshoot most of my career we demo and then install. never have to troubleshoot unless something doesn’t work. Most of the troubleshooting I’ve done has been when I was in my apprenticeship doing side work for family and friends. I actually have a side job today after work someone has a tripping breaker so I figure out watch the video to learn something that I didn’t know, I seen at the beginning you and I use the same methodology. But I’m glad I watched your video because I like how you methodically broke down how you were approaching the problem in our field We never stop learning. Keep up the good work.

I deal with this crap every day too. It's complicated sometimes but you definitely did the right thing by isolating the troubled circuit. In my experience, I leave the circuit breaker off until I find the find the issue by probing the the hot to ground and where that continuity exists. I have a pair of the Fluke Field Sense T6 voltage testers and they work real good. Nice work Sparky! Ron from NJ!

@11:09: Why would a bonded neutral trip a non-GFCI, non-AFCI breaker? You should have continuity between ground and neutral on a receptacle unless it's neutral-switched.

Also, notice it looks like the conduit out the bottom of the w/p junction box is not even connected to box. Didnt notice ground wire going out conduit either. Rough conduit end could have cut the insulation through both conductors and if you had a dead short to ground and the installer was using conduit to ground it most likely wouldn't have tripped leaving gate, conduit or both energized an looking for a ground (human). Luckily the motor locking up overloaded the circuit causing trip situation.

There is no attic crawl space in single wides to check the wires . Im little confused on another problem . The living room back wall closest to the first bedroom with no power . It has power and looks like it should be feeding the next outlet because it has power coming out headed to the that room . any tips please !! had guys working on a fix and flip and one breaker keeps tripping all of the sudden , one of the tradesman yesterday he was there when it tripped yesterday and his guess was one of the kitchen installers drilled into a wire , the actual kitchen electric never shut off fyi -i arrived and tried resetting but it kept tripping , upon showing up today i reset the breaker and it stayed on all day and didnt trip (does this mean the cause may not have been a screw into a wire?)--my electrician will arrive tomorrow to check it out .. if it was a screw how am i supposed to know which screw may have caused this?

I’m having the same issue in my house 15amp braker keeps tripping a certain section of the house and the detached garage are the once that loose the power . I replaced the microwave outlet and the 15amp beaker and it brought power back in the section of the house that didn’t have any power but my detached garage didn’t get any power. So then I thought the issue was the microwave outlet so I went and put old breaker back on and it tripped so I put back the new breaker and now the new braker tripped agin so I replaced the microwave outlet for the second time and now the braker keeps tripping agin. Any ideas would help thanks. Love the content.

I am in real estate and I came across quite a bit of capable electricians but unfortunately some of them take short cut to solve the problem and get paid for the day and will not dig into it to solve it once for all, just like what you did. Great Video! We lost power to outside outlets when using a blower, but the breaker shows to be On for that circuit. All other breakers are on and the voltage at the breaker box shows to be good. This breaker has two bathroom outlets, plus two outside outlets on the circuit. If voltage is good coming out of the breaker box, but it shows zero volts at the first wired outlet, wouldn't the issue be between that first outlet back to the box? Or could another outlet cause all of them to not work?
@jakesully5402
@jakesully5402 10 місяців тому
I suggest double checking your GFI plug. Likely in the bathroom ? Bathroom and outdoor plugs combined was a common wiring strategy about 30-40 years ago when it was decided that outdoor/water exposure required GFI protection. If your GFI won’t reset, that’s likely the problem.

Great job BUT, to save time and money why not use Ideal’s in-line and port “wire connectors”. Rather than connecting & reconnecting wires Ideal has push-in / pull-out wire connection. Granted there a little more money but if you have to trace wire from several boxes I find it easier and faster to use Ideals or Wago wire connectors. The Idea is cheaper and faster not to mention Made in USA.
