I’ve had self induced ‘Arc-eye’ many times over the years messing about with my old cars. Let me tell you, it is really painful. From my experience, unless the company enforced health & safety, workers will do what they want. Although, that lad with the paint sprayer! Loved the video.

It is very common to tack pieces in place with your eyes closed. He places the welding rod exactly where he wants it, closes his eyes for a couple seconds while he tacks the piece in place.

Actually they close their eyes when they weld. They are only doing spot welds. Anyway they can't use mask because both their hands are occupied. I did that for years when I was their age.
