@Diszturr you are correct. What was reported was that Putin said he could take Kiev, if he wanted to, in "two weeks", not one week. It was supposedly over a phone call with José Manuel Barroso. BTW Kremlin has not denied this, but said Putin's words were taken out of context. As far as "proving" things goes, depending on how philosophical you want to get, there is not much that anyone can "prove" about anything. You or I can't even prove that were are not all in a big simulation, let alone what someone might have said over a phone call to someone else. If by proof you mean a *video* of Putin saying it, well, it was a phone call. The whole thing was beautiful planned and exicuted. I can't wait this this whole thing is over and the analysts do their thing and we get to hear the whole story. Wow man good of you to go and be a part of history by seeing their culture and situation *during* the war! I went to Lviv in April and helped with supply distribution. I wanted to go to Kiev but I was told road blocks would not allow a foreigner go very far. Were you able to go deeper than Lviv? Yes, I agree, seeing the strength and will of Ukrainians first hand was an amazing experience. Something I'll remember for the rest of my life.

I had a toddler being looked after in Poland and didn’t want to leave her for too long. I also got to help out at the Przemysl train station in the boarder city in Poland. Has thousands of women and children flowing through the small station with huge bags but no elevators, they need constant volunteers there to help direct and move cases. When I was there loads of students from Japan turned up to help, was quite amazing. But still needs more help, felt bad for leaving but had to get back to my job here in the UK

NATO weapons, intelligence and training is the reason. As valiant as the Ukrainian Army is, they simply didn't have the equipment or resources to hold out for more than a couple months.

Ukraine is brave only because of US + NATO backing and Russia is so poor that they can't even buy cheap ATGM for attack helicopters, not to mention guided air to ground missiles for their 4th generation fighters.

The Russians are not completely stupid, even if we love to think they are. They must have been aware that also around Kharkiv, something was building up. But then some bigwing must have decided that the south is more important than the north. And I keep wondering why. Retreating behind the Dnepr would have created a zone that is easy to defend, freeing up troops for the Kharkiv region and maybe even an offensive in the Donbas. Now, the Ukrainians can fight a war of attrition in the south and win it as Russian logistics is crippled. Maybe Oberst Reisner has an idea?

Russia still has most of its navy which would have made Kherson the harder target even without reinforcements. Putting a HIMARS on a barge like the thumbnail is a novel idea but it would make more sense to get some use out of them before dumping them in the ocean

There is another old Chinese set of writings on military strategy call the 36 Strategems. IIRC it'd a collection of essays rather than being written by any one person. There's a particular stratagem called "Make noise in the East and attack them in the west." which is basically an application of the warfare is deception principle. Another point that is made in the Art of War is that a cou try cannot go to war without the whole country being behind the effort. In fact, when you look at the Russian effort almost all of it runs counter to the principles laid down in the art of war. It's almost like they're trying to write a book on how not to conduct a war

Continue with that thought, Russia gave up undefendable land and continues to grind forward where it matters. In both cases Ukraine loses men on a vast scale for nothing other than the cheers of western propaganda media channels.

Yes. This was big for Ukraine. Retired special forces from around the world came to Ukraine to fight the Russians. Russia is not fighting against only Ukraine, they are fighting against the world, and Russian soldiers do not have half the experience that many of the volunteers have.

All of those who were not allowed to leave and forced to die fighting and all non combatants used as human shields, you are the sacrifice to be forgotten, and hopefully, none will have been in vain.

I'd say that red dawn is far more complex than the current war. It's beyond vietnam or Afghanistan in complexity. In red dawn you have a coalition of Cubans and various other central Americans invading an enemy with the direct support and even manpower assistance of the soviet union. 1 ukraine isn't the aggressor here. 2 most of their forces come from the same nation 3 there are no superpower boots on the ground physically lifting rifles and shooting the enemy. We're advisers. Like in Cambodia and Laos. 4 there arent even american piloted aircraft undertaking airstrikes. The ukraine is just another good ol' proxy war as far as I can define it. Red dawn was the beginning of world war 3, including the use of airborne, ground-based, and naval nuclear, chemical, and biological weaponry. Red dawn was a global disaster. Red Dawn is about a group of teenagers fighting an insurgency in an America that had been successfully occupied by Russia and their allies, whose forces were competent and up-to-fate. Ukraine is a sovereign nation with both regular and irregular military forces, armed with NATO equipment, defending themselves from Russia's poorly planned invasion, with an army that is ill-equipped and unprepared, with largely incompetent leadership. the only similarity to Red Dawn is that there's a Russian invasion, otherwise it's basically nothing at all like the movie.

There's been a few rumours online of some Russian politicians moving to impeach Putin, the fact that they're saying it openly makes me think that Putin has lost a lot of his power at least. If there is a change in hands of the government, I'm sure that will stop the war for now at least.

would make sense, from the videos i saw the Tank barely lost any speed when going under water and also didnt have any mud on its tracks when it came out of it even tho the bottom of a river usually is pretty muddy so something should have sticked in my opinion but what do i know

I hear that they have to select the right spot to cross pretty carefully. If the bottom of the river is mud, they can't cross, but if it's rocks or something like that, they can.
