To be honest, working from home should have been implemented 10yrs ago. Most companies complained that it would be a security issue because of confidential information. But let’s be serious, the biggest crooks are the CEOs and upper management. I never want to go back in the office because I like my freedom, I create my own schedule and the work still gets out. I don’t have to worry about office gossip, management telling me I spent an extra two minutes on break nor wearing business casual in the 100 degree Florida heat. I don’t miss an office environment!

Work From Home may be better for employees, but I don't think it will be profitable for employers & government. 1. For employers, if they want it to be profitable, they must first fire out all the middle level managers and sell their offices (becoz most offices work on rent.) 2. Work From Home requires a strong internet connection, which sometimes can keep fluctuating for some people. And the case where Google servers went down twice recently; it will affect all the business organizations in the world. 3. For government it will be a huge loss in taxes since people won't commute and moving away from cities, do shopping, using public transport, crude oil usage will come down. 4. Most people rely on the business of renting house to the employees working in companies. So it will affect their savings too. 5. Some employees having their children at home find it difficult to manage everything. So, in total, I don't think it will be possible for people to work from home. 5. I could never imagine sitting home day after day staring into a computer. This reminds me of 10 years ago when everybody got sick and tired of city living, a mass exodus into the suburbs. A year later, 80% sold their homes, moved back into the city. Computers get more and more sophisticated with every passing year and so a lot of these jobs will disappear, and then what? Also employers find hiring foreign workers is cheaper. That happened to one of my neighbors working from home, suddenly that was the end of her comfort zone job. The world is oversaturated with tech people already. Hackers are getting more and more sophisticated also, so working at an office or working at home, has its pros and cons.

I hardly use any sick leave or vacation time now that I'm teleworking. I haven't seen my boss since February of last year but I think I've completed more projects than we usually would in that amount of time. I absolutely love teleworking!

@Ben ...but as we open things up with the virus controlled a bit, schools and day care will open. Kids need to socialize in person and this would allow the parents breaks and time to work from home or nearby offices. Its a win-win. Less commutes, less pollution, less lease costs to businesses, and as a parent we can do more with the family.

The part I see time after time in this subject is about the increase in inequality. While there are benefits to working from home, the benefits are available to a small number (office workers). For everyone else, this is not an option. We need to be cognitive of that dark side of the working from home as the ultimate solution for everyone.

It will surely affect the economic growth of a country.

The problem with her point and one that people like her and the presenter often miss is something we call equal trade, For every positive, there will be a negative reaction, many jobs will be lost because of the format of the city she's talking about, especially in urban cities with a decrease in cars, now don't get me wrong I think having fewer vehicles, less office building will create a better living standard for people but not for everyone equally, those with fewer means will suffer greatly because they don't have access to the same funding. We will need a balanced approached and that's often where companies, city managers fall short.
@SermonsSubtitled
@SermonsSubtitled 3 роки тому
You're right. many jobs will be lost because of the format of the city she's talking about. But on the other hand, what Alice Shay said about cities being "more porous" and how that creates more opportunity for micro-entrepreneurship and new innovations, is also true.
@DanyCesc83
@DanyCesc83 3 роки тому
@@SermonsSubtitled Is a fair assessment but we have to see what the actual application will be like, plan's rarely work 100% of the time and by creating entrepreneurship you forgo other types of job opportunities and social/economic classes, will gain something but lose in other area's which is expected and within projected model's but it all gets amplified by our current financial and political environment so balancing both will be key.

I think a mix of some remote working flexibility as well as some actual face-2-face time in a physical office space is the perfect combo for me. For folks like myself who began remote working aeons before the pandemic hit our world, the 100% remote working situation isn’t the best psychological scenario, with time it tends to make you enjoy being reclusive & we aren’t designed to be like that. Just happy now, that when going for a job interview and charging my demands; that I want an at least 50% remote working situation if I do join their company, no HR personnel would be wide-eyed staring @ me as if I’m demanding the moon from them. That is the best part this entire pandemic has done for me.

Just imagine a future of polycentric cities where people work from home and in their spare time organize recreational activities or projects as communities. I really love that aspect of regionalism and human unity. In fact, I think that’s the way to heal from the current plague of chronic conflict.

“More productive and efficient”. That must be why my friends have been waiting months & months for house purchases to go thru, and 12 months for a grant of probate, and why I can never get thru to my doctors, my insurance company, etc.. A lot of people just take the p*** if they’re at home, and even if they are responsible they don’t get the necessary training or back-up needed for improvement.
