A quick How-To on programming a new key code for your Keyless Entry system as well as how to erase previous codes.
Very simple, you just need to time it right. All sequences of input must be within 5 seconds of each other or else the lock times out.
*These instructions can also be found in p.60 of the User Manual!
The factory code mentioned here is on a small white plastic card (size of a credit card) that is tucked in your owner's manual and it will have FIVE DIGITS and a bar code underneath.

Thanks for these Escape posts! The key one worked for me. Note: on my 2013 Escape, there was a wire bundle that made it pretty much impossible to get the code without pulling the glovebox. And the glovebox method worked perfectly. Thx!!

I have a 2016 escape. I found the factory code, and used your procedure for erasing personal codes, but the prior owners personal code is not erasing. I wonder if it is because the personal code is not code #1; i.e. another code number? If that is the case how do I erase?

If ur lights, the keyless entry lights,come on and stay on. Change the battery in ur key fob. It's the alert to tell u ur battery in ur fob is low. Its in the manual as well. Hope this helps someone. Ive had 2 fords. 2002 Explorer and 2013 Escape

I try and try, but it won't do my new #'s. Are the doors to be locked or unlocked to start this process? PS, the manufacturer code works fine. and cars in cool garage. It seems to work IF I have my keyfob in my pocket.

Hi Barb, thanks for asking- I'm not sure if the fob in close proximity is a factor or not- my Escape requires the normal key. I also don't think that the doors need to be locked or unlocked- check this out: owner.ford.com/how-tos/vehicle-features/locks-and-security/how-to-program-your-keyless-entry-keypad.html It's the Ford recommended procedure and specifically calls out the time sensitivity when entering your numbers. I have a Ford Fusion 2020 hybrid and My factory code has the same two repeating number 09 in the 5 digit code. It work when trying to reset it, any function that’s needs the factory code, it won’t accept the factory code on the my sync3 touch screen under key code. I also never got a second key fob when I bought it, they just gave me one key fob. How do I fix this?

What if you want to program in 34343? Not 33333... How does the keypad know if your pushing the 4 or the 3? or are you not able to use both numbers of the same pad unless you've hit a different pad between like 35463.. I'm confused???

As far as I know you can not disable the factory code :/ it only erases the personal code. The factory code is the "key" for a reseller or yourself to allow a new personal code but its permanent unfortunately

Thanks for the feedback, Roberto! If just one light/ number set does not work, it's likely the module that will need replacing if that's possible. I don't think that the individual LED can be serviced, but I could be wrong. Let me do some digging for you and see what I can find.

Hi Ronald- nice! I've always wanted to drive one of those! If it's an interceptor, my GUESS would be no, because it is a bit more of a "bell and whistle" feature that the police fleet vehicles probably wouldn't care for as they're pretty utilitarian, BUT I do know that my keypad lights up when I press my fob to unlock or lock the vehicle remotely. So, if you haven't seen it at this point when using your key fob to lock/unlock, I'm thinking it isn't equipped with this. BUT YOU DO HAVE A BADASS ENGINE IN THAT PUPPY! Enjoy it :)

I have a 04 Ford Taurus and even if I reset my code the factory one still works, can I make so the factory code won't open the doors?

That would sort of kill the whole point of the system. The factory code is built into the car and/or shows in places in the car(like under the glovebox in some cars) so if you re-sell and/or lose the code you set yourself it's still retrievable. Don't worry, there is 120 possible combinations and the system shuts off after a few failed attempts.

Yairaliz Acevedo hi Yairaliz, thanks for watching and for the question- I cannot vouch for fusions directly, but with the escape, it the factory code is displayed on a sticker way up underneath the dash on the front passenger side. With the escape, you go into the foot well and look up- maybe look for something similar for your fusion?

It should all be the same procedure but I can't guarantee the factory code will be the same. I would THINK that the code is stored in the computer in the cabin. However, I haven't ever swapped a door and verified. If you already have the door and your factory code for your vehicle it wouldn't hurt to try! The code on your vehicle is also located behind the glove box in the passenger footwell if you need it!

It should be the same protocol across all Ford vehicles with this illuminated touch number pad :) Don't see a reason why it would be any different. It may be different if you have the physical rubber buttons

Question: do you have to illuminate the keypad before entering your code to unlock? The keypad is difficult to see in certain lighting.

Good question- I think so. I usually swipe my hand down it once just to make sure it's on and ready to receive your input- you're right about it being a bit fickle sometimes. I've found that it's a lot less responsive in heat as well - especially as a black material, it can get pretty toasty!

I think that people need to be aware that you must slide your finger down the keypad before entering the code. I was trying to put in the code just off too but it’s wasn’t working until I saw this video saw you slide your finger down the numbers.

I had similar issue. Just narrowed it down to an issue with the 1-2 button not working correctly. Tested a few things, then tried pressing against the panel on the right side of the numbers to help see if it would make better contact internally, and yup. After 2 years, I press with one hand and can enter my code without fail. Maybe this will help someone else

I have a 2005 ford five hundred and this worked, but it still unlocks my car with the factory code too, I thought once I reset it to my own personal code It would no longer work with the one it originally came with, I unfortunately shared my code with someone I no longer trust and trying to just set it to my new code and delete the old one, is that possible? Hi Fabi, I'm not sure that the car ever forgets the factory code as it's the base / default code to reprogram the car to your personal use. I hear you on wanting it to be more secure, but I don't think the car can ever have something to go back to if it were to be sold/passed on to somebody else other than yourself- Sorry- I know it's not really the answer you were looking for, but it's intended as a failsafe in case you forget your personal code or need to set a new one. Hi Roberto- yes! The factory sends a master override code which will allow you to overrite an old code. This can be found either in a card that should be in your manual. If the card is not there, you can locate your factory key code by going under the glove box. Unfortunately no- but it is listed on a label stuck on the fuse box in the passenger footwell. We have a video on finding it if you want to see it- its a reach upwards but you can do it with your phone or take out the glove box which is a bit easier.

Hi Carole- understood. The factory reset code is printed on a sticker on a module behind the glove box. It is not hard to remove the box or you can see if you can sneak your phone up and snap a pic of the sticker with your camera phone

Correct- factory code is a permanent fall back in case you forget your code or the car is resold. One factory code, one customizable code

Unfortunately no, not that I know of- it seems the factory code always exists as a fallback. So you'll always have 2 codes- your own, and the factory code. Just keep the factory code secret if you can :)

Hey there David- sorry you're in that pickle. There is a small credit card sized card with the factory reset number on it that should come with the car (or it did when it was new at least) and then the code is also located on the BCM in the passenger footwell...I recognize thats not helpful since you're locked out. How can you make it that the alarm wont go off when you use the actual key? I hate it when I get in the car with just the key. It's like a bomb, a buzzer giving me 10 seconds to put key in ignition before the actual alarm goes off. It's stupid.

Woah! I dont think I've encountered that before- has it always done that? So do you unlock it remotely with the key and it just starts going off???

@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews When I uses the keypad on the door or the key fob it doesn’t go off. However if I manually use the key to unlock the door. A small buzzer ding goes off inside the car and after around ten seconds if the key is not in the ignition the car alarm wil go off. I wish I could disable this system since I like manually opening the door. Unsure if you know a solution. Thank you!

@@42luke93 That's odd- I've never heard that before- it sounds really frustrating to be honest- do you have an aftermarket / replaced key by chance? Do you know if there is an aftermarket security system in your Escape? What year and trim is it?

Hi Kim! Unfortunately no- it is permanent with your vehicle. Consider it an ultimate fallback option if you forget your personal code- thats why the factory code is on the little card with your manual. IF you don't have the card, or need the factory code, its located behind your glove compartment in the front passenger footwell! There's a video on our channel about locating your factory code.

Hi @Vahe, Apologies for the late reply. Sorry you're having trouble there... I wasn't aware that you could do that with both keys- how does that work? Do you put in one key after the other and then the code shows up on your dash? I know many cars in the US have the card with the code printed on it... Have you figured it out since posting here?

Hi Jed- sorry the sound was a bit low - you're correct on that... and Yes- the last personal code will be erased but the factory code is the permanent reset for that vehicle.

That's ok! If you have a '13 and up Escape, this link: (www.fordescape.org/forum/ford-escape-pictures-videos/250-how-locate-factory-preset-2013-ford-escape-keyless-entry-code.html) shows a video made by another driver who found where it's posted on your vehicle. It's on a module in the front passenger footwell. Remove the two yellow "nuts" that are around the posts securing the cloth trim cover and you should be able to find it! Hope this helps :)

If you have both sets of keys, you can find the factory code as well. Put the key in ignition and turn to "On" ( Do not start the car) and keep on for 4 seconds. Repeat with the other key and the factory code should show up on the display on the dash. Hope this works.

Tina Forbes ugh- I'm sorry that's got to be frustrating- So you WERE able to find your factory code then? Did you happen to try out in the heat of the day? Our FE keypad will get wacked out if it heats up in the sun... just a thought... Did you get it to the point of the factory code working to unlock the doors? before even trying to reprogram?

Hi Skyefuego, hmmmm... there have been others on here with similar experiences related to heat if your car has been out in the sun- the black panel with the keyless entry pad can get hot and the buttons are less responsive- do you think this was part of your situation? If not, we can keep troubleshooting- thanks!
