I can not even imagine what he must have felt when he finished writing this song. He must have known then that it is a masterpiece. The lyrics alone are pure genius poetry, and then there's the music... I listen to this song over and over again in awe. Watching him sing it he seems to go to a higher plane. You know the crazy thing about this song? he wrote it all by himself like there were no cowriters or something, this mans brain created This masterpiece ALONE

This version sounds more just depressed, lost and deadly almost the the original version. There is a certain mourning to it, like he’s talking about the relationship in past tense, that the lover has died. Like he wants to die with them. Which is a stark contrast to the original which sounds like late night sneak away and a sinful pleasure. It sounds so full of passion and life and adrenaline. I think that this is why Hoizer is amazing, because he can take the same song, same lyrics and same genre and completely change the underlying tones of the music.

What I find amazing is that he has two things that are rare in today's most popular singers: A voice that's actually good - when he sings live it's just as incredible as the studio version; songs with deep messages and amazing lyrics.

The lyric, the talent, no need for tune, and very down on earth, that's why Hozier is one of the best artists alive.

I so can relate to this because coming from the south in the united states 20 years ago it was illegal to be in a same sex relationship coming from a Christian home married to a male policeman it was the hardest time of my life. I was thrown out of my church asked to leave my hometown and my kids removed and given To their father but I fought hard got my kids in 3 months went back to college and moved to Massachusetts now bought my home with cash and living good. Screw homophobic people. Live free like it’s your last day.
