There are millions of people right now basing their decisions on the belief that there is a God, thus descriminating against homosexuals and denying them their rights. I don't know if there's a God and as an agnostic, I don't care. I do know there are homosexuals on this planet and people are disrespecting them and acting against them, very often in the name of God. I have a very negative stance on faith, but that's not what we're here to discuss. You want to believe and you have every right to believe and in fact, if anyone were to discreminate against a Christian or a Muslim or a Jew I would react just as passionately against it as I do when people discreminate against homosexuals. We are all equals, living in democracy. If a man wants to marry another man, let him do it. If they want to raise a kid, let them do it. They're not harming anybody by their union and the kid is better off with two dads than with no dads. Same thing goes for lesbians of course, or transgenders or what have you. You can think of it as a sin, you can pray for their salvation if you want, but don't stop them from doing something that is not harming anybody. I respect religion, but religion has to respect me as well. You can think of me as a sinner and I can think of you as a fool. Don't come bursting into my home telling me how to live my life and I won't come bursting into your church telling you that I think you're wrong. P.S.: These are the views I have as a heterosexual man raised in Catholicism. I became an agnostic/atheist after 5 years of careful thought and consideration. I have no gay friends, I have no gay sibling. I just care about other people.

I'm Christian. Yesterday at church, we were listening to the pastor preach on homosexuality. I got tired of it because what he was saying were lies. He said we should not associate with homosexuals; That we should hate them. At that point, I rose up. I said "Nowhere in the Bible does it say that, but in fact, your Bible says 'Love the person but hate the sin' and also the Bible says 'Don't judge because it's God's job'. God also said he wants us to what? Love the 'sinners' just as Jesus did. Jesus explains his everlasting love for EVERYONE, no matter who they are. He didn't say ' Keep all homosexuals out of your doors and completely preach hate on them.' In fact, didn't he also say 'practice what you preach'? Don't you preach on loving your neighbors? I remember that sermon, sir. This is certainly a hypocritical church. All of my siblings are Gay, sir. They preach more love then you ever will. God never said his child will not enter the gates of heaven if he sins. No. In fact, Romans 3:23 says 'For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.' I have Scripture to back me up. And God's word is always right. So don't even say ' Homosexuals can't be admitted to hear the stories of God's everlasting love for us.' because they deserve hearing the word of Christ just as much as you or I. Good day." Then I walked out the door. I only go on Wednesdays now, and I got kicked off of praise team just for catching the pastor in the wrong. Apparently I'm not allowed to correct the pastor on the scripture no matter how much scripture backs me up. I'm so upset.

I can't understand the hatred towards gays and homosexuals. It's absolutely sickening. Comment update: Absolutely by accident I caught the end of a song and I liked it so much that I went all over youtube to check if I can find it, and there it was: Take Me To Church. That's how I've ended up here. Unfortunately, I saw this clip and it sickened me so much that I wrote two simple lines, the least I could do with my poor English. I've kept it short and concise. A few hours later I had to give some additional explanations regarding my first comment and for a moment I thought that I've clarified my position but I was wrong. The avalanche of comments that had followed shortly after took me entirely by surprise. I'm a middle aged regular guy, married, a father of two who's against any form of violence motivated by religion, race, sexuality or gender. Don't get me wrong, I'll punch a prick in his mouth anytime only because he's acting like one (after all I'm a biker) but to beat the crap of someone just for the simple reason that he's different than me, or to hate him, to embarrass him, to lecture him, to hurt him in any conceivable way, never!. I'm Christian. In my opinion the homosexual people aren't hated by God because they aren't any different then people but we all have our own choices and thoughts. If God really hated gays he would be no better than the devil himself. "I can do all things through him who strengthens me"

Ughh I'm a Christain and I have to say some of these comments are just annoying. Hozier madeclear in one of his interviews explaining what he wrote the song about. But in MY own personal opinion based of the song and video, I belivie the song is about a gay christian who believes he was "born sick" and pleads to god to fix him or accept him for who he is. But then towards the middle of the song he says "I was born sick but I love it" which means he stops praying for forgiveness and finally accepts himself. But if you seen the video after his long journey of trying to be accepted and finally accepting himself (and even having another person accept him aka his partner in the video) it still ends badly with members of the Church killing his partner. Guys he doesn't hate the church or is "making fun of your religon" he is simply singing a beautiful song about what happens nearly everyday. I'm a christian and I even know this. To all you christains out there, whether you like it or not there are some christains (or members of the church) who will go out of their way to kill homosexuals or "exterminate gays". As much I hate this, this is sadly true. The fact that people are willing to go as far as to murdering someone just because of who they are is sickening. God created everyone just as they are, which means he made a person with disabilites born that way, or a person with cancer, born with cancer and most importantly if a person is gay he created them that way. I listened to this song as a kid, never knowing the true meaning. I'm crying thinking how different it was to hear it knowing now.

I just recently discovered this song (sorry middle-aged white guy, judge me if you want). I'm not even sure what this message of this song is but the video is so intense I felt a need to comment. Why do some people (and judging from the video, people is a very generous description, animals would be more appropriate) feel the need to judge others in matters that don't concern them? Let alone take disgusting action (sometimes violent) to suppress it. Why can't we just accept that love is love, regardless of who it is with. I am probably speaking out of turn, (and please correct me if I am) but no one chooses who they fall in love with or even who they are attracted to. I am still trying to wrap my head around all of this so please forgive me if I ramble or appear ignorant in these matters, I am, but I'm not an asshole. The song is amazing no matter who sings it (I've watched many different versions), the video is disturbing because I know similar events have happened. I have friends and loved ones who could be subject to this kind of ignorance and violence. If I make any sense, (or don't) please let me know, I'm just trying to understand, and right now I don't understand the hate. Love conquers all eventually, I hope.

I was singing this song as a kid in the car with my siblings, my mum and my dad and my dad said “do you like this song” and I answered yes and he said “well don’t” and I asked why and he then said “I’ll tell you when you’re older”... now that I’m older he has obviously forgotten but I haven’t and as a teenager it really triggers me

I love this song as much today as I did when it first played on my radio. Oregon, USA here. I'm writing about this piece for my humanities class. This is one of the best songs in history and it blows my mind that you didn't think it would be popular. I can understand that perspective when you consider what the content of the song is, but I recognize so many aspects of this song that are present in many other successful pieces. My point is that, even if you didn't believe in your power or the ability of society to accept and appreciate this piece of art, I am so thankful you still shared it with the world and I am so happy for you that it did what it did for your career. Honestly these comments are really and truly interesting to read. You hear a lot from homophobes, Christians and atheists. My favourite comments are the ones claiming they don't have a problem with homosexuality but still think it's a sin. Now I'm gay and an atheist myself, but I think I know a little something about the bible, but I'm not exactly too sure. Your Jesus Christ died for your/our sins. Bc of this all the sins in the past before him would've been forgiven, but sins in the future would still be made. He would have to die over and over and over again JUST for our sins. So Jesus died for our past, present and FUTURE sins. Meaning that eating pork, lobster, being gay or even masturbating wouldn't send us to hell. And a religious friend of mine said that the rule of gays being stoned to death was in the Old Testament. I'm a Christian, I studied my whole life in a Catholic Private School but I've always been a supporter of gays. It's kind of hard choosing between your beliefs and your heart, but at the end of the day I see it this way: everyone has the right to do whatever makes them happy. That includes being gay, straight, bi, trans, eating a shit ton of pizza or veggies. Do whatever makes you happy, because that's what God sent us here, to be happy. We are all human beings with feelings and our sexual preference shouldn't matter. And weirdly enough, the religion teacher I had in HS said the same thing. He respected gays and just said: God loves all of us, no matter what. He didn't bash on them nor insulted them, he just said that it's their choice and if they are happy about it then that was okay. And thanks to him my faith in my religion was restored, knowing that there are Christians out there who also believe the same. Not all of us Christians are crazy fanatics, trust me. I support gays and they are just amazing human beings. I just wanted to put that out there.
