Price, flexibility, and video on demand. The only live TV I watch these days are the NFL and Phoenix Suns basketball they are on ESPN or TNT. I am so bad now with binging, that I cannot watch a show and wait a week until the next episode. I wait till the whole season is done and then I binge.

@@shackdaddy7106 We're pretty much the same way with our live viewing and binging. We just finished Dahmer and think that's about the only show, of recent, where we had no problem waiting a bit in between shows. 🤣

All of these services have done a pretty good job in improving their DVR quality, so my most important thing now is channel lineup vs price. UKposts tv still has the best channel lineup vs price IMO.

Great review as always. And great information. One thing about the total TV deal add-on Sling TV. Is that there’s more like almost 70 channels plus you get the 200 hour DVR with that also. And one thing about orange and blue is that you can literally switch back-and-forth between the two as often as you want. Right now on Mondays I have orange so I can watch Monday night football. The rest of the week I have sling blue. So I can watch the World Cup

Good points re: the Total TV deal. It's still a bit pricey for our liking, but that flexibility is certainly a significant selling point for it.

Great review. Having both especially for the extra channels they either don't have would help balance the channels I learned . I love Hulu Live I just wish they'd end restrictions outside the home .

I have tried both services & find for now I am with HULU - pretty much coz of the fact of the VOD catalogue plus ESPN & Disney plus more channels

The bundle does add a good bit of value, especially if it's something you want.

Including the bundle, along with now having an unlimited DVR has greatly improved the value of Hulu for sure. They still lag behind because of their, IMO substandard UI though.

Philo really does give you a lot for your money, and their unlimited DVR with 1 year retention is a big plus too.

I haven't tried either again this year but both were annoying between slings website and interface and Hulu live interface being very confusing.

My parents decided to cut Spectrum (due to pricing) and go with Roku TV streaming sticks and while brought myself a Smart TV. I decided to go with Sling TV due to pricing (paying $70-$80 a month sounds ridiculous to me) and realize there are no local channels and have to get antennas and other stuff. Sling should add local channels without paying for extra equipment if Hulu and UKposts TV can do it. Price hiking also needs to stop.

Glad you were able to cut the cord. Unfortunately, there is no way for Sling to offer locals without adding ~ $20+ a month to the total cost. That's the cost any live TV streaming service, or cable for that matter, adds to a monthly bill. It's the broadcast retransmission fee and it's charged to them, so they pass in onto customers. That's a big part why Sling is able to keep their costs more affordable and why YT TV & Hulu Live are more expensive.

Sling would be great if they would up the amount of streams on the orange package. I have get togethers with friends and family and want to have 2 or 3 tvs going on a football game on ESPN so everyone doesn't have to cram in one room. The single stream on orange was a deal breaker for me.

Very informative video folks! 👍👍👍 I PERSONALLY prefer Hulu live over Sling because you get your local channels, and the Disney bundle is included in ALL packages. I agree that the Sling UI is better, but the channel lineup and inclusion of the Disney bundle with Hulu is much more appealing to ME. If price and UI are the overriding factors, then Sling, IMO is the way to go. Having lots of choices is why I now stream ALL of my entertainment.

Yep, we get the draw of Hulu Live as a true cable replacement. It has the potential to offer lots of value to subscribers. Our issue with them, as we sort of touched on in the video, is the current issues with its UI. For the price, it feels as if there's something missing. Their goofy pricing antics don't help issues either. 🙂

@@FrugalRules I know. The issues with the Hulu UI are not exactly recent occurrences. The buffering issue that I've mentioned before has been ongoing for well over a year now, maybe even as long as 2 years. They are well aware of it, but have done absolutely nothing in all that time to fix it, which makes me conclude that they don't care enough about their customers to fix that problem. They always say that they're working to fix these issues, but nothing seems to happen.

I have Hulu + Live TV and have the same issue with recordings. I have it set to record WWE RAW and SmackDown, but it has a tendency to "forget" that it recorded some episodes. I know it recorded the episode because I see the recording earlier in the day, but it can just disappear later that day. For $70/month I expect better than that

Fixing their, IMO HORRIBLE UI, seems to be very low on their customer service list. Hulu with live tv offers a good value now, but they need to get off their rumps and fix these things.

Weird. I am currently with Spectrum cable (traditional cable; no streaming) and that same issue has been occurring with one show series I record. I can see it recording during the live broadcast, but when I look back for the recording it is gone. I am currently researching in order to cut the cord. I just thought it was interesting that this same issue is occurring with traditional cable services.

What is the best Live Streaming program that includes local stations, i.e. ABC, CBS, & NBC, for shows that play on their actual days vs having to watch the shows the next day?

UKposts TV or Hulu Live are likely going to be your two best choices. They have all your locals, plus a bunch of other stations as they're premium live services. If you can use an over-the-air antenna for your locals, you'll save quite a bit.

I'm still surprised that people haven't noticed what stands out for Sling TV is the ability to buy PPVs. I've used it to watch AEW events. For the niche audience, AXS TV for Impact Wrestling.

If you don't need the Turner networks, we'd put fuboTV as a close second. The interface is better, in our opinion, and some of the features are a touch better. But, if you need Turner then it's an obvious answer. Thanks! Hoping we can make up for blowing the 18 point lead we had on them earlier in the season.

That was largely just speculation from what we remember. Given they look to be potentially getting NFL Sunday Ticket, it'll be interesting to see if they make any changes.

both sling and hulu live seem to outplay each other in terms of quality yet the reason youtube tv seems to fall behind sling ,frindly, philo and hulu live is cause of Channels that have all sorts of classic content whether it is : Boomerang for cartoon Network,game show networks like Buzzr the Metv channels including Heroes and icons, decades, Movies!, and even story television this tv, Laff, Grit, or even subchannels Not on sling that are generally on comcast like antenna tv all sorts of channels this is a general concern that has been raised Numberous times to youtube tv, yet they havent addressed it

I despise all things disney & do my best to walk away on any business they own or is under their umbrella, but looking into different plans, so wanted to consider sling as a option to Hulu, as I’d prefer not to give my money to, but they both make pricing & packages so flipping confusing, almost as bad as insurance companies, with green, orange, blue platforms, and to be honest at the prices advertised, there’s is absolutely zero savings using these online services over cable or satellite. We eliminate our satellite a few years back as the prices kept getting higher & higher, so we ditched them all. And have survived this long without any service, other than Netflix & Amazon Prime, and occasionally renting a movie we want to view. Personally, I don’t really trust any of these online services, as you pay for the services based upon what they say they will provide, but if and WHEN they change the programming or fail to honor their agreement, you don’t get any discount or concessions, I’ve tried paying for other individual services like espn, only to find out it’s a bait & switch.

With one of us being a lifelong Disney fan, we get disliking them. We also get how streaming can be confusing, but that doesn't necessarily = bait and switch. Sling does a fairly good job, in our opinion, as it's the closest to a la carte channel packages. We'd also disagree that there's "absolutely zero savings" with streaming. The average cable bill is just over $200 a month, and we regularly speak to people spending $250-$300+ a month. With the average premium streaming service costing ~ $70, there's often savings available. Additionally, some services do offer fairly good customer service. UKposts TV is one perfect example that has given discounts when dealing with a carriage dispute of popular channels. Unfortunately, there's no way just to get the ESPN channel as a standalone, only ESPN+ - which is not a replacement to the channel. ESPN, by the way, is also owned by Disney. 🙂

Hulu Live TV is the best value wise. You get Live TV plus the Disney Plus Bundle...no one has touched that. All Disney needs to do is add spotify, since they own them and BOOM GAME OVER ! Sling has no customer support over the phone and during my free trial with them the service froze multiple times. They're cheap for a reason! Not to mention there's no customer support for youtube either 😕 Disney is better on Ala cart options as well. I mean they offer so many different bundles, which I agree can be confusing, but once you sit down and look at it they're basically giving people choices. Not everyone wants straight forward sometimes they want the option to choose which is what Disney has provided people. UKposts and Sling don't do that.

We'd agree that Hulu Live has a very good value prop. If you want a true cable-lite experience, it's a solid service. However, not everyone wants all of that, thus forcing you to pay for something you may not watch. That's also not to mention the known rampant tech issues with Hulu Live that they continue to fail to address - regular buffering, scheduled recordings not recording, and a lackluster (for the price) UI. Sling certainly isn't perfect. But, for someone that can get locals another way & don't need an unlimited DVR, it's a good service that offers decent savings. Sling also offers a lot of add-ons if you want to add more channels.

I had Hulu and cancelled the service when I found out it was owned by Disney and they forced me to pay a higher price for Disney+, which I don't want. There is no live TV option without this add-on. Disney is using Hulu to push their own streaming channel on consumers. Fail. Also I no longer wish to do business with Disney due to the content they are putting into children's cartoons.
