It’s time for an almighty, all-American off-road battle!
Mat’s got his hands on the absolutely huge Hennessey Mammoth, and he’s facing off against the Hummer H2!
Now if there’s one thing these behemoths aren’t missing, it’s weight, with both tipping the scales at 3,000kg! However, it’s fair to say their performance stats differ pretty substantially.
Starting with the Hennessey, it originally started life as a Dodge RAM pick-up, which came equipped with a 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8. However, Hennessey got their hands on it, supercharged it, and now it produces 1,026hp and 1,314Nm of torque!
In comparison, the Hummer H2 arrives with ‘just’ a 6.2-litre NA V8. As a result, it puts down 393hp and 563Nm of torque. The question is, which of these American monsters will come out on top on this off-road course? There’s only one way to find out - LET’S GO!

That suspension is from the factory. Hennessey had 0 involvement in that. RAM deserves the praise for that.

@@joshualewis393 the back end of the hennessey is a Dana 60 is it not? It's not set up correctly if it is that things struggling the toe in will snap an hub clean off that the first time it slams down or hits something while airborne, if it is the Dana 60 you cannot let them toe in like a Pinzgauer offroad or you're snapping the entire corner out the vehicle with one heavy touchdown. Maybe I'm wrong and can be corrected?

Paul is my new favorite character here. More of him PLEASE !!! I just LOVE that "go big or go home" approach. An SUV reincarnation of Colin McRae's "when in doubt - flat out". Hate it when people spend fortune on turning their trucks/SUVs into monster off-roaders and then drive them gently over the slightest pothole. If a car is meant to go off-road it should be sturdy.

Well they don't supercharge it.....the base car is already supercharged as the TRX?? also I'd love to know what they have done to the gearbox as the highest spec ZF I believe is the 8HP90 (90 meaning limit of 900nm!) So a lot less than this engine can produce

H2's weakest point is it's tie rods, they need to be upgraded for serious off roads, and this H2 is abused, none of it's electronics work, get a proper H2 then repeat the challenge, or i think you should bring an H1 for this beast Hennessy

Umm the hummer is nowhere near the best of road vehicle. The Suzuki yes especially the older Grand Vitaras, the jimny on this vid is basically a skimped down less able 2006-2008 Grand Vitara mate, which is a good thing.

I said it on the first vid with the hummer, it has an absolute garbage tune on it. When they did the exhaust (and I'm assuming intake) they either left the stock tune in it or put an off the shelf tune in. It bogs off the bottom horribly and makes no power at all. There is no way that tub was properly dyno tuned. No way at all.

I had wondered what was up with it too. It didn't seem like it was in low range either - it struggled with every climb and had no engine braking on the descent.

@@brynjaminjones well truthfully, when hill climbing like that you need wheel speed. So, he should have been in 4 wheel high. But, since it's not making any power off the bottom its lagging horribly. If you're in 4 wheel drive low range you don't make enough wheel speed to climb hills where you need inertia as well as torque. Once you're high enough in the rpm range you are making the hp/torque to motivate you up the hill. 4 wheel low, is for control, deep snow/mud, and towing/pulling a very heavy load over short distances. It's a mechanical advantage where you can also have low ground speed but can be in peak torque/hp rpm ranges. You are absolutely correct about it sounding horrible and not being able to get out of its own way.

The wee Suzuki looked ten times more composed and stable over the bank than the Henessey🤣 for a start it didn't toe in the back wheel to the point you'd snap the hub clean off if you jumped the thing or hit something. No idea what that scoring for "stable" was all about. That wee Suzuki whooped that easily on road tyres too, what a great little machine 👏

@@ty27tp it's a Dana 60 as far as I'm aware? Yeah we're only too familiar with that in the UK hence the reason I stated what I did. If its the Dana/Spicer I think it is it doesn't work in the UK that well on larger heavier vehicles. Either way your gunna snap a bunch of stuff over here if your toeing in like a Pinzgauer mate If you know what I mean? That's gunna snap hubs clean off that thing if that wheel hits anything while it's airborne at that toe.

Things to factor in are the cost of these trucks...along with their age. The H2 is holds up extremely well when compared to this new and much more costly Hennessey...which is also an aftermarket performance build. Mad respect for the H2

What useful information could you possibly get from a comparison between a stock, functional H2 vs the Mammoth? They are in totally different price ranges, made years apart, and use different equipment to prove their capability off-road. Paul is a laugh to watch and is willing to abuse his vehicle in the name of fun, which is much more entertaining than watching two nervous owners carefully driving through a course in perfect control, afraid of getting so much as a scratch in the paint. No one can even buy a new, stock H2 anymore, so even with a functional, stock example of one here, the results would be meaningless to anyone interested in the H2 because it's very unlikely that you'd be able to find a mint example of a popular vehicle as old as the H2.

There is obviously something wrong with the Hummer. It doesnt seem to have any power, you can hear that it doesnt want to go, and that descent didnt seem right either. That hummer broke because of absolutely pathetic driving. Watching that low-profile tire smash into the ground while the wheel was being sawed at, and then bouncing it over an obstacle is the most moronic thing I've seen all week. I have done much, much more challenging trails with 0 issue by using my brain before approaching an obstacle. You can't drive a giant SUV with a block lift the same way a Baja truck is driven.

Honestly with the weight taken into consideration and how hard he sent it, anything manufactured by anyone would snap a tie rod. It's 3 tons and doesn't have fancy bypass shocks to take a larger beating like a TRX or a Raptor.

@@matrinezkevin11492 for the weight the tie rods should be strong enough to withstand that small of a hit. The back end took a worse bounce and was fine. People in my circle and family have been off roading for years and that bounce wasn’t enough to warrant that kind of damage. At least in a truck or suv made with parts designed to handle the weight and purpose of said vehicle. It should be able to withstand something like that much better.
