Hurricane Ian: Florida suffers a 500-year flood event

Sky News' James Matthews reports from Naples in Florida, where residents had to bear winds of over 150mph from Hurricane Ian.
The category 4 storm was more than thirty miles wide, and is thought to be the largest ever to hit the continental United States.
Governor Ron DeSantis said that the weather had brought a "500-year flood event" to the state.

I lived hammond la a few years and inland tx now. Never been to Galveston but hurricanes are devastating and it's very sad and aftermath for weeks and months and months with home repair

They keep telling us every year that the new devastating hurricane is a “once in a thousand year” or “once every 500 year” event. Really? Every year we have a once in a 500 year hurricane? 🤔 I’m no mathematician, but that doesn’t seem mathematically possible.

The whole area is.. and it's a main tourist destination. Sanibel island was a beautiful, idyllic place to go for vacation.. Unfortunately it's been wiped off the map. ..Glad it was knocked down to a Cat 1 by a cold front just after landfall though.
