Thanks to Hyke & Byke for sharing this sleeping bag with me to provide this review.
I've had a chance to use a lot of different sleeping bags this year, and to wrap of the year, I share my review of the Hike and Bike Eolus 15 Degree 800 Fill Goose Down Sleeping Bag. For a budget minded bag that comes straight from the manufacturer, it is a really great bag that won't break the bank. It's made well, haven't experience any of the down pushing through that would be out of the norm, it's warm enough and made well.
Check out Hyke and Bike here, and buy support my channel by buying this bag from my Amazon shop below. goo.gl/E3m2o3

Use a bag liner and you can shed those extra layers while you sleep. It's a good and cheap way to add warmth to your bag.

Good Review. I picked up the shavano 30 degree that they make last spring and it holds up well to that rating for me. I'm also a hot sleeper. I think the lowest I've had it was 30 in my tent and 34 /35 in my hammock.

Thanks for making the first in depth video on the eolus. I've owed the same bag for a couple months now and I love it. Reminds me of the Marmot plasma series bags with the vertical baffles and color but at a way cheaper cost. I sleep really warm so i stay toasty into the teens with a cheap liner. Really good bag for the cost. Sub'd!

I think the 15 is the extreme limit, meaning that you can survive at that temp, but if u wanna be comfortable add some 20 or 15 degrees to it. I liked your video! great content.

Great review, Im former US Army Spec Ops I learned over the years add 20 degrees to the number the manufacturer gives you in general 0 degree will be warm till 20. I do lots of trips in Norway with a Pulk in the winter I have a Mountain hardwear ghost bag -40 with the hyke n bike 15 bag you have. When weight is not a priority but warmth is the double bag works amazing..... The 15 keeps the warmth in then the -40 surrounds the 15 with a chamber of warmth. It gives lots of flexibility to your set up.

SteadfastTrails yes the loft on the bag is much less than the Paria. The Thermodown has 650 in it, at least mine does. The May have changed it to 700, but the Eolus definitely doesn’t have the same amount of loft. It seems to be filled more like a 30 degree bag, and I’d go out on a limb and say that Paria has stuffed the Thermodown to make 15 degrees a comfort rating. At least my experience of being in the Thermodown into the teens i was toasty.

Dont see a lot of full-length vertical baffle bags anymore. Some people complain the down tends to migrate too much toward the feet, leaving cold spots in the middle of the bag. The Marmot "sawtooth" is a much better bag for only $180.
@xjinit
@xjinit 5 років тому
Apples and oranges bud, this is goose down 800 the Marmot is 650 duck down.
@taradead
@taradead 5 років тому
@@xjinit The difference between types of down is weight, not heat. I've tried both in equally rated bags and, as far as insulation, couldn't tell the difference.
@xjinit
@xjinit 5 років тому
@@taradead when talking about these bags, weight is one of the major factors. You compared two completely different bags and said the price is comparable. In that case the Hyke and Byke Eolus 0 degree bag for 190 blows the Marmot out of the water.

Thanks for the review. The FAQ at H&B says the bag "ratings" are the survival limit. The comfort limit is 30-50F! It's a shame that companies still use the lowest EN/survival rating. Very misleading. When a company uses the true EN comfort rating, it says a lot about their character IMO.

Wouldn't it be great if all Sleeping bag and quilt companies got together and unanimously decided to update the whole comfort rating to reality?! I have a 20 degree quilt that is really only good to 35-40 degrees in reality, I'm making the switch to a 0 F!

@@BackcountryExposure thanks for the response...How about the paria vs. the 0 degree Eolus?
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 4 роки тому
I still would go for Paria. Sure they don’t use 800 fill down, but I’ve enjoyed the Paria products a lot and they are a far more established brand in my opinion. Keep in mind too that both companies are not designing unique one of a kind products. They are coming from a mass production factory in China and the designs are designs that a lot of brands use and change the colors on and make minor design tweaks. Either bag will be awesome for the cost. I’ve experienced true temperature ratings from Paria vs the Eolus though. Go Paria!

Okay as far as sleeping on the goose down for centuries European countries have used down mattresses and they refused down blankets longer than we have Plus ducks and geese sleep on their bellies compressing the down and they stay warm if some of the worst weather and they now are making air mattresses with goose-down it in them so I think you're cold issue is you didn't have a good enough insulating layer between you and the ground
