Excellent analysis by Vijad Prashad, with good input from Rania Khalek. Another word that also describes the times we are in are escalating times, the plans of the elites are put into practice, and the struggle for resources increases, but also real shifts in the geopolitical landscape with a crumbling empire and large parts of the world heading towards a multipolar world . I, and certainly many with me in the west, have long said to ourselves, these leaders have no visions, most of their talking are trivial "fights" which are just shows, while we get to read about the next decision they have made which is not always in the interest of the people, but rather economic liberalism adapted to foreign big capital. So it's not just in the mentioned countries that decadence takes hold, it also happens, for example, here in Norway. But since Norway was mentioned, I can tell you that our national oil fund withdrew 440,390,000 USD from Israel, while politicians are working to divest more, and it is easier in a country where Norway's largest newspaper asked its readers whether Israel should be denied participation in Eurovision Song Contest and 90% answered yes. I think there is much of the same atmosphere throughout the west as well. (This last part was my "pep talk" Rania, ha ha)

I am not 100% convinced yet of the Israel/Palestine analysis...because there is the overlay or underpinning of the Islamic world view which feels to me just another form of intolerant cultural imperialism, but this time coming from Mecca. Even so, I had never quite clocked the viewpoint that Zionism exported a European racial failure to the Middle East and undermined, indeed destroyed the inter-communal relationships between the Palestinian Jews, Christians and Muslims... though again, to think that the Christian Palestinian community was easily tolerated by the Islamists is, I think, naive. My mind-set has been roundly formed by the Atlanticist world-view and you have just rocked this for which I thank you. I Am happy to change my opinion if there is any history book to reference with respect to the quality of communal relationships pre 1947. On the wider component of your analysis you have been enlightening to put it mildly. I have realised just how I have taken in hook, line and sinker the western narrative - the imperialism agenda which, you may not realize was in full flow here in my country (South Africa) in 1899 when the British purposely waged a war against the Afrikaner minority (nationalists who resisted the British decision to take over their republics and force the gold bearing Witwatersrand reefs into British control). Being"white" from an ethnic perspective makes it even messier if you want a simplistic narrative - but the truth is that anti-imperialism has always been a strong theme (for all the right reasons in my opinion) here in South Africa.
