My mom’s grandmother (her father’s mother) was Seminole, I wish I would have been raised learning that part of my culture. All we have is their house and pictures to show for it. Only my eldest aunt (who passed a few years ago) spoke the native language. She and her two sisters lived a mostly traditional Native American lifestyle as well. All they ever taught me was how to make a brick “oven” in a pit outside 😩😂🤦🏾♀️. I’m determined to learn everything though!

I want to give a shout-out to all the Seminoles. Their souls and heart is tied to this land; therefore, nobody, and I mean nobody, can take it from you. Just listening to this, you can feel the power of the blood of the Seminoles and the voices that have gone before this young man! I am deeply moved to watch this video. I live in SW Florida, and it's a fantastic video; maybe one day, I can visit one of the reservations.

I am a native of Tampa and the Seminole smoke shop was literally walking distance from my front door. Walking just a few blocks from my house you'd be outside the neighborhood and maybe 500 ft up was the Seminole and which eventually had the hard Rock casino. I believe the smoke shop has closed of course I haven't lived in that neighborhood since I was a teenager but I don't remember anyone stopping at Seminole Indians or having any issue at all with them benefiting or having businesses in the area I think everybody was kind of proud of the fact that they were doing that. I feel blessed that I grew up in such a culturally diverse part of the country. My whole life I had friends from almost every state in the United States and people from other countries. Tampa had everything that any big-city had but we also had more of a quaint neighborly feel in comparison to some place like New York City.

I am Seminole by my mothers blood in creek tradition that is enough, she was adopted by whites off of a reservation near Pahokee county Florida. I was adopted at birth, nothing would make me happier than to be able to rekindle my connection to my ancestral ties! I hope my studies might highlight a way home as I have a deep desire to protect what positive culture can still be protected. I have no anger over the fate of us Seminole but we must remember and rebuild, the thought of all of our fight being for nothing? The possibility of living without ancestral purpose? Horrifying! I hope everyone looks into their family and reconnects in this age of dopamine and screens!

McQueen....Ann McQueen. Osceola's descendants are many. And whether they like it or not, many are white. It happens. I am Seminal, Creek, Choctaw, Cherokee, Yuchi ,and Scottish. But my family was never on reservations. My understanding is unless you are of a particular blood percentage of a tribe you can't register as part of the tribe. Also if you are of mixed tribal blood you can't register with a tribe because of blood quantity. I understand the reason for this though so I'm OK with it. I am a McConnell but we have MCQUEENs Knights, Browns,Moors and Harrells among others in our family line and so many fun stories and some sad stories in the family. The Browns were called the border hopping browns because we got chased around by the calvary a lot...they never did catch us...lol! But most of us had serious issues with Andrew Jackson that to this day his name is not spoken by my family. I live near his home and can't bring myself to go any where near that place. I take the long way around it! Even my children get an uneasy feeling around that place. The trail of tears is also not far from us and we visited once but that place also made us uneasy so we don't go back to it.
@zbuildsthewayyyt10852 роки тому
Blood quantum. That's it. They might say they accept maternal lineage. They do not. You must have blood quantum and appear Native. Otherwise, they don't give two shits if you have irrefutable evidence, lineage and DNA that links you to other living descendants who are 50% Native and of that same blood line.
