@@perks9396 I thought that too before. I wanted someone else getting those chances. But when he doesn't play, we simply don't create anywhere near those chance numbers. He creates chances himself with his movement, speed, power, work rate. He is a chance magnet. The whole team scores so much more when he plays, even when he is missing chances. The chaos he creates in an opponents defense is hard to measure, but obvious to the eye.

@@perks9396thats the thing about Darwin. You gotta create those chances, before missing the chances. He doesnt only create chances for himself but also his teammates. It's clear night and day when it comes to chances when Darwin is on and off, clear example is the Arsenal game we lost.

Any Liverpool fan who watches the games will know how much better we are when he's on the pitch. He's an absolute nightmare to play against. I had wanted us to buy him ever since he played against us for Benfica. Literally all he needs to do is improve his chance conversion and we're looking at 35-40 goals a season easy. Does anyone remember when Saurez arrived and he was profligate for the first season and a half until it suddenly clicked and every shot started flying in?

It's a very big 'just' (and Suarez is a very different type of player, imo, also the best striker on pure ability who's played for us at least in the modern era, as sad as it is to say given how he left). However, Darwin is already good enough to be a nailed-on starter for us as is. Salah, Jota and Nunez are the best front 3 in the league, imo. He creates a lot of difficult chances for himself because of his runs, speed, power and unpredictability, so it's natural that he misses more. Where we need him to improve is if we want to win another CL. CL winners most seasons are teams with a very solid, stable defence *and* clinical with the chances that fall to them. It's OK to miss difficult chances that other players wouldn't even have had, but we need him to become far more reliable with high quality chances if we want to give ourselves the best chance at the business end of top European cup competitions. I'm cautiously optimistic about that. Nunez is impressive in another way - mentally, he never lets misses deter him, keeps going and is never out of the game just because it's not gone well. I'm not saying he's a robot and he's clearly a very confidence-dependent player right now, but his determination to keep going and trying to do the right things is genuinely impressive. I'm very happy that our support has recognised this and cheer him on even if he misses so he feels the encouragement from the crowd. At other top European clubs like RM or Barca he'd be whistled and dragged through the mud in the local press. We're giving him every chance to reach his full potential, whatever that might be, and that's what makes Liverpool such a special place to play football (and a great deal of credit for that goes to Klopp and how he has enhanced our supporter culture over his tenure).

Yes he is actually good. Some things to note. Klopps system over the past 8 years has never been a system that requires or takes in having a true number 9 like Darwin. With a new manager like Xabi, he can unlock Nunez 100%. What I hate about modern football is we don’t give players enough time to adjust. When he came in, it was a new league, new manager/teammates/system etc, he didn’t speak a word of English. He’s now looking way more comfortable in the team and that is allowing him to be more comfortable on the pitch. Yes I want to see him convert more, but just the shear amount of times he gets into position to even score has always been great.

Incredibly impatient fan base. Liverpool fans are better than most in this respect, but 12 months ago I was hearing noise about Jones and Elliot being not good enough and should be sold in the summer. It is one thing to rubbish an experienced player that is 26+ and should have peaked, but it is quite another to rubbish a young player who is obviously improving. Nunez's decisionmaking, passing, hold up play, dribbling in traffic have all noticeably improved since last season, and thus he has earned 7 PL assists, putting him on par with highly lauded creators like Foden and Saka. His finishing is almost improved to not great but pretty good, as shown in this video.
@PLC11
@PLC11 2 місяці тому
@@ComradeOgilvy1984 all fanbases are impatient to some extent but I would question if those are real fans or just “fans” on social media. Because after losing Fab, Hendo, Milner, I don’t think many fans wanted even more midfielders to leave when that was going to be our big focus in the offseason. Jones has been criticized fairly but the past 12/14 months have been great. (Still not a starter though and that’s okay). Elliot the same. I mean we are still in the same boat at looking at our midfield and going we could really use about 2 more. The Nunez hate comes more from rivals or other people that just live to hate on players way too quickly. Football fans on social media are some of the most toxic people out there. Full of trolls, idiots, children, etc. I would take what you see on social media from “fans” with a grain of salt.

the thing with Darwin is that no matter when or where, if he has the ball at his feet he is a legit threat and you HAVE to treat him as such. Liverpool's xG is always positively impacted whenever he is on the pitch. People can criticize him all they want but the fact of the matter is this: EVERY single team that faces LFC, every single manager, dedicates a huge chunk of pregame prep and their team shape in response to where Darwin is in the lineup which is why bringing him off the bench has been a very effective use case because you have a team that is not only fatigued but also has to switch gears mentally to account for Darwin. He oozes quality and he is an utter joy to watch and he plays provider as often as he finishes and he is nowhere near finished product. He presses his ass off. He has snarl to his game and he trades well in the dark arts and won't be intimidated. Everyone who says they don't rate him would happily take him in thier club.

There was a similar situation as the Brentford one when he played against Argentina. Bentancur recovers, from Messi nothing less, on Uruguay´s box, passes to De La Cruz who filters it perfectly for Darwin who destroys Otamendi at speed, and after running the entire half and then some he looks up, fakes a shot, looks up again, and shoots perfectly through the legs of Emi Martinez. He can be clinical, but he definitely needs to work on his mentality to maintain that. Yall should really check that goal out btw.

Paul Scholes said it best. He is such a good all round player that once the goals start falling even his miss hits will find the back of the net. Has the potential to be one of the best forwards the league has seen. Whether that potential is ever reached is up to the kid and how bad he wants it.

Well done, James. Also, Haaland and Nunez have same number of big chances missed and the goal return is only separated by number of times Nunez has hit the woodwork more than Haaland - so on aggregate, we're talking about ~18-24" inaccuracy over 7 shots being the difference between him having 16 goals and 9. Nunez also has more assists and big chances created. Strange that Haaland is almost exclusively spoken about is raving terms whilst Nunez is the exact opposite. In closing, narratives in football are often rubbish in either direction.

The chances he gets, his incredible positional play, but then his composure in front of goal is so erratic. If he can find some composure and learn to slow down and relax when he gets a goal scoring opportunity, you’re looking at a player who could get crazy goal scoring numbers. Like if you had Defoe’s finishing ability in Darwin, you’re looking at one or two goals a game on average because he gets so many chances and because his positioning is so incredibly elite combined with his speed and strength. Now if you put in the finishing ability of a Messi or Ronaldo, you’re looking at record breaking numbers. It’s all big ifs, but that all said it’s not an issue at all. He does so much for Liverpool to the point he’s become the most important player. He does so much for the team, gets so many chances and creates so many chances that he already has a world class contribution to his team. There shouldn’t really be a dispute about him, he’s a brilliant player and also probably the most entertaining player since Ronaldinho, for different reasons, but just like Ronaldinho he has you up on your feet every time he gets the ball. Everything he does is perfect except his decision making when it comes to shots and the odd bad touch. Perhaps some rival fans won’t appreciate what he does unless he played for them, but it’s now come to a point where Liverpool fans get concerned when he’s not starting and we’re talking about the team top of the PL. He’s an absolute gift from the footballing gods regardless of his composure and finishing not being as good as everything else he does, but striker is the position he should be without a doubt. That conversion rate is so different compared to last season, last season he was missing chances by ten yards or more, but now he’s hitting the woodwork or just narrowly missing. He’s getting more refined. He’s already a terrifying prospect, but with improved finishing, he’d be formidable.

Since James recorded this video, Darwin has scored a few more goals. Notably, he had a double against Sparta Praha on the away leg of the Europa League. One of the goals was a 30-yard cannonbal he shot whilst standing near the left angle of the big box. The other goal was a speed run on the right flank, placing the ball near the opposite goal post. That's surprising cuz he's only 1 match albeit a very good one from being on good xg. If he missed half as many easy peasy chances he'd be like 4/5 goals positive xg. That shows how many low xg difficult goals he's scored tbf

One thing that seems to be obvious about Nunez is that he is definitely not a confidence player, nothing he does seems to affect how confident he feels or doesn't feel. No player with low levels of confidence and high levels of criticism tries to do what he did against Brentford.

What people don't realise is if you was to compare to Haaland. Then Nunez is a better football player than Haaland but Haaland is a better finisher. If Nunez can get his finishing more better than hes a world class finisher as well as being a world class player.

I do think not just Liverpool fans but others hype him up too much sometimes but he’s clearly not a bad striker and far from it, Liverpool wouldn’t be where they are if he wasn’t in that team. Just because he’s not got the goals doesn’t mean he’s not contributing. I like these analysis videos each ones interesting.

He was overhyped at signing because it was the same season that Haaland came to the prem and everyone wanted it to be the next Messi/Ronaldo GOAT battle. Solid player and he's got the ceiling to become world class if he can learn to hone his game rather than just relying on natural skill, strength and speed.

I’m a United fan, but Nunez is brilliant. His finishing is mostly terrible, but he still has 25 goal contributions 7/8 months into this season so far, including 14 goals (10 in the league). If he keeps this up, he’ll easily finish the season with 35 goal contributions in all comps. That’s ridiculous for a striker who can’t finish. His movement is incredible, his teamwork is incredible, and his pressing/work rate is incredible. He scored 35 goals in his last season for Benfica so his finishing MUST be better than he’s shown recently. He’s shown it a couple times this season even, but definitely not regularly or consistently. However, if he gets 30-35 goal contributions before it clicks, imagine how many he’ll get after it does, whatever “it” is. He’s hit the woodwork 9 times this season and missed at least 5 pretty much open goals. That’s nothing to do with his quality, it honestly seems like bad luck at times.

You look very fresh indeed sir. Darwin is the first player to make me feel the same way Luis Garcia did, knowing full well that he is more than capable of scoring a screamer and missing a sitter in the same game, every game. Don't mind if he never becomes a player who scores 20 goals every season, he suits the philosophy of Liverpool, the enthusiasm is so endearing, he enjoys missing almost as much as he enjoys scoring.

the fact that Darwin had missed a ton of 1 on 1s, had Jota wide open, and was up against a 6’4 keeper and decided to chip him says enough. the guy is legit insane, but it works?

He is a game changer. Yes he does miss a lot of shots, but he is so involved on the pitch that he is always assisting and creating chances for Salah, Jota and Diaz.

I think it’s fair to say that if haaland doesn’t score then he’s useless in the game whereas Nunez is involved if he doesn’t score. Now he won’t score the same amount of goals as haaland and very rarely does haaland have a game where he doesn’t score but that’s why us Liverpool fans (ignore the online fans) don’t get on his back if as an example, when he hit the woodwork four times against Chelsea, because he’s involved in a lot of the game whether it be in build up play or his off the ball work
@danielcarbaugh4354
@danielcarbaugh4354 2 місяці тому
As a City fan, this is what I admire about Darwin the most and criticize Haaland about the most. There are so many games where Haaland gets marked out of the game completely and he can’t really contribute other than pull center backs into different positions. But he doesn’t even do that very much cuz he’s constantly looking to get open for a pass that puts him on goal. I love the way Darwin hustles, moves around the pitch, and links up play. Granted, I’d still rather have Haaland because we need a clinical finisher lol but I still enjoy watching Darwin play.

I know it’s shallow but anyone who needs convincing on Nunez just needs to watch the 35 minutes he played off the bench against Fulham on his premier league debut. If you’re especially keen, compare it to the hour that came before. He is DANGER, and the more refined he gets just means extremely bad news for every other team on the continent.
