Been watching Rust to riches to disengage a bit in the evenings, this channel is a pleasant surprise - hope it takes off for you Shawn. I think one thing that isn't touched on much in shows like this is the true cost of parts + time and actual profit, especially over a period ( some projects pay off more than others etc. )

I think back to original color would be the best bet. p.s. Flying Sparks Garage is working on their c6 & could certainly use some advice. Emily & Aaron are pretty cool folks.

My vote is for the Ontario Orange metallic, not many cars that color.

Shawn, honestly I never would’ve thought it was originally orange. So I went and looked this car up in its original 1971 Ontario Orange, and I have to say, it looked pretty darn good in that color. Then I remembered that years ago a friend had an AMAZING looking Fender Stratocaster guitar in “Burnt Candy Tangerine”, so I did a search on that color, and found several hot rods that had been done in that color. You should take a look at that and consider Burnt Candy Tangerine for this Vette. It would hold some of the original appeal, but look a hundred times as amazing. Hi Shawn, when I grew up, the early seventies , my fathers friend and mentor to me was a Structural Daftsman with his own firm. He bought a new 1972 Corvette Stingray. He immediately painted it Indian Red. It was slightly uneven colour like an indian rubber ball. Kind of a deep reddish wine. It looked fantastic on the car.

Omg this was so awesome to watch and see Shawn’s pure joy in bringing this car back to life. I’ve always liked him on Gotham garage and this confirms that he’s a passionate and genuine guy. Love it!

I watched you and Gotham crew when I was going thru chemo, so much thanks for keeping my tired brain entertained. This reminded me of my days in LA when that vette was new, damn I miss the early 70’s , racing at Riverside drive and cruising at Van Nuys Blvd. Keep up the awesome content! Subscribe!

Shawn, that '71 Stingray was a great buy. If that is the original long block in it, then the '71 has higher compression than a smog pump equipped '72, eh? I think that particular Vette body style looks fantastic in Black or White, in my opinion. Your "parts yard" is impressive. Happy to be a subscriber. Best of Luck!

Rotisseri restoration should be done! There are parts from performance places you can get. If numbers matching, you got a winner. find all original parts you can. Paint it the original color, and take it to auction. There are soooo few original vettes of this era left, and many people still want one!

Well you did good. A while back I bought a '77 for $3000. Several years and $20,000 later I had a real nice restomod. Drove it for a few years and then sold it for $17,000, used that money towards an '06 coupe. Great cars these Vettes.

If the block and head numbers match the car I would go with the original Ontario Orange. It was one of my favorite colors anyway. I also liked the War Bonnet yellow for '71. I had my '71 big block painted with Dupont Imron Seminole red metallic and it looked really good. You can never go wrong with any red or black on the C3 Vettes. Just go with whatever color appeals to you!

I just happened upon your videos and completely fell in love with your presentation and I am a Corvette lover. I just bought my first Corvette it’s a C8 2023 hardtop convertible three LT. I wish I had your skills I would definitely rebuild Corvettes it would be awesome but I really enjoy watching your videos and thank you very much.

Dude is a cross between David Spade and Dana Carvey. Excellent Channel! For wheels that are locked up you can put fiberglass cafeteria trays under each stuck wheel. They will slide like butter.

Just stumbled on this channel. I could tell that there was more to Shawn than what was portrayed on the show. If anything, Shawn was the most important part of the crew, finding buyers and deals. Anyways, I was looking for part 2 of this video and was surprised to see that there are only 4 videos on the channel. Part 2 is not one of them. I hope we get more videos. The content is good.

LOVE IT...the sound of the 70's!! It brings back my youth! 👨‍🦱 I laugh when I read "classic"...since the 70's was a reality to me! I am glad I am not referred to as "classic" before my name!? 😂 Though the 70's corvettes had a lot of mechanical issues, they looked good & was a babe magnet. Now picture yourself getting out of this corvette with long feathered hair, shirt unbuttoned (3) bottoms down, bell bottom jeans, and platform shoes? Now your living the 71 corvettes! Great video and 👊RESPECT👊...!

A fast Corvette like that should be painted sky blue just like my 1975 Firebird that no car could beat on a race. But now I moved up to something really faster that flies like a hurricane storm. Passing through. But quite a little bit dangerous as well. But yes sky blue paint will be super nice looking on that fast 1971 Corvette. That always been my dream car since I was a kid. Hey Shawn, I’m so happy to see you on UKposts! I hope you’re very successful. I went through a half dozen 68-75 Vettes in my earlier years. My favorite was a 72 LT-1 with Air. I think it was the only solid lifter car with AC that GM ever made. I think they made 271 of them. I sure wish I still had it. It was remarkably weak In performance compared to a 70 LT -1. The pollution control stuff and the lower compression made a huge difference in performance. You really made me “homesick” for another. I may start looking for another. I’m really wondering if I’ll enjoy driving one, it’s been a long time! PS: No question in my mind on the color. Ontario orange. It’s original and orange is popular again. If you’re lucky they prepared the jams poorly and they’ll be easy to strip.

I forget how easy was it to do things under the hood to cars before computers came along and everything was squished into a friggen box. And definitely one of the best finds/deals ever. Great video Shawn. I paid 3500 for my first Corvette back in 1977. It was a 1968 base Coupe with a 327 and 3 speed manual trans. Was super nice car and fun to drive! I did a frame on restoration.

you remind me of my late-grandfather figure. super into corvettes, always got that mechanic sense of humour, and was the sole reason im into corvettes myself. he heard that i was gonna save up and buy a 1996 Chrysler New Yorker for my first car, and shoved his then (now mine) 1989 C4 Corvette in my face for two grand, and is now my first car. absolutely loved the heck out of this video! glad i discovered your channel

Great video! I don’t know how you popped up in my youtube feed but Iiked it. My roommate in college in the early 80’s had a burgundy 72 automatic that he let me drive as long as I dropped him off and picked him up after his classes. Riding inside on the test drive brought back some great memories. Im disappointed that there wasn’t the another video of it. I hope it exists and will eventually be posted. Burgundy, the original metallic orange or sea foam green would be awesome. Im going to search around to see if i can find the finished video somewhere.

The car does sit nicely in the Ontario Orange, works well with the interior, matches the VIN and is a period colour. Another colour from that year that will catch some eyes is War Bonnet Yellow, the lines of the '71 vettes with the chrome really show off bright metallic colours. If I had a choice of colour to own I would probably go with Bridghampton Blue, Or Brands Hatch Green and these may appeal better to the masses. You could go for some flames or details on the hood, but I think the lines of the car speak for themselves.
