Excellent choice; love the white because it shows off the black corking on the arch extensions and the (painted) black air intakes so well. Congrats for going for carbs, round-belly and not a low-body Countach too, all the correct choices. I bought my QV back in 2010 and even though I'm lucky enough to have driven almost everything, having a Countach stare back at you whenever you open the garage door remains very special. My top tip would be to fit a new set of Pirelli P7 tyres, if the previous owner hasn't done so. They make a big difference. Next, check the geometry and the condition of all the rose-joints in the suspension. Once you've done that, simply keep filling it with super-unleaded (never check the mpg) and drive the wheels off it. That's the best way to enjoy the craziness of this legendary supercar, that's always hard work but also so damn rewarding to drive.

That look on your face says it all. My dad bought an '82 Countach as his midlife crisis car. I'll never forget going into NYC with him to pick it up at the dealership. He was like a kid. On the ride home, my dad -- a very serious guy (albeit brilliantly witty man) -- was grinning from ear to ear with unbridled joy. I was also lucky to have a dad who wanted me to share in that joy, and made the car available to me to drive wherever I wanted. (Picked up my high school prom date with it!) It was a challenging car to drive, but worth the effort. The old man kept his for about two and a half years, ultimately trading it in as it was just too unreliable. He was sad the day he traded it. His new car, a BMW 633 csi, was a terrific car though, and in many ways a better performance car than the Lambo. But up until the day he died, if I ever reminisced about the Countach, he would smile and say, "She was a beast, wasn't she?" She really was. Enjoy your new toy, sir. You've earned it.

Belated congrats. That gated shifter! As someone who grew up reading Car and Driver in the '80s it was impressed on me that the two manual gearshifts that stood above all others are the Italian supercar gated ones and those in Hondas. I've driven a manual Honda almost every day of my adult life so far, and a chance to drive (much less own) a now-vintage Lambo or Ferrari is a bucket-list thing.

As a Millennial-car guy I understand exactly what Doug meant by buying a car that has "an experience that cannot be matched". 3 years ago I bought a stock Mazda RX-7 with very low miles at a very, VERY reasonable price; at first I was very skeptical to buy a car with an engine that not everyone was familiar with, not to mention the horrible stories you heard online about reliability. At the end I just couldn't say no to that gorgeous look and pulled the trigger. I've done so many mistakes in life just like everyone else but I'm happy to report that my RX-7 is NOT one of them. Just stick to a very strict maintenance schedule and makes every other impracticality disappear. I know this comment may sound pretty cheesy but I felt that this video spoke to me in so many levels. Thank You Doug!

I collected models of the countach in the 1980th and 1990th in my room. Only one in my area of 110.000 citizens owned one back then, and he did exhibit it in local small car fairs, and I was always there. I wasn't interested in any other supercar. That car ist just the perfect, most timeless design ever. 610 where build of this one, 5000 QV, overall, fewer than 2000 where build.

So wholesome to see him like a kid on Christmas morning. Even after driving most supercars out there, he still loves this moment.

I will never be able to drive a Countach but watching you giggle at the visceral feeling of really feeling the car and the road reminds me of the first time I drove a bone stock early Mazda Miata. I had feelings like that in that Miata. The smell of the car and the way it handled will always stick with me. I imagine your experience is similar, with a lot more power and 500k. I have spent a lot of time in high performance cars but the 1994 Miata will always be the one for me. Your Miata video missed the MY by one year.

I have an 87 Firebird Formula 350 (my dream car) and while its no Countach it still has that old school driving experience and it cant be replicated by anything modern. I get electric is the wave of the future (and rolling blackouts when we cant power all of them) but there's no replacing the feeling of a big ICE and a sweet sounding exhaust.

Doug talking about the experience of having something like a Countach made me think about Gordon Murray literally creating Murray Automotives and creating cars that can be matched in driving aesthetics you could get from the original McLaren F1 which he created. The McLaren Speedtail might be trying to recreate the F1's record breaking abilities of this new era but I bet its nothing like driving the original F1. I feel like Murray Automotives T50 and other models are almost on point to the original F1. Seriously happy that people like him are still willing to look at their past and bring them to the boring EV future.

I remember going to a classic car show when I was about 13 with a friend from school, his dad took us, I walked in and immediately my jaw was on the floor. A 1983 lamborgini countach in red. It was absolutely stunning. I couldn't believe how wide the back tyres were, or how low to the ground that car was.
