I live in a small town by the sea. The tidal drop is about 2.80 m at better time. I have a reservoir that could fill by the tide. I have a wall about 8/9 feet thick to contain the water. It would be enough to add a good-sized tube to allow water to fill the reservoir. When reaching the highest tide, could close the entrance and open an exit. This would consists of a pipe (or more) that would allow the water to flow back through a generator. A similar system could be also used to move the generator when filling the reservoir. Could it work to get some power ?
@DownhillAllTheWay2 роки тому
Kudos to the guy for having made this. I'm sure it took some effort. *_HOWEVER ..._* 7,000 watts = 9.38 Horsepower. That's nearly 10HP, so think for a moment about the size and power of a 10HP electric motor. It's a big, heavy motor, and if you bought it new, it would set you back more than $600 - probably quite a lot more. 7,000 W is enough to drive a fork-lift truck or a small electric car. There is *_NO WAY_* that sort of power is coming from the thin vanes in this "turbine". If they were subjected to almost 10 HP, they would get flattened. A 10hp Baldor 1760rpm 215t 3ph motor weighs 231lb (105kg) - so you wouldn't be able to pick it up. The electricity to drive that much power does not - *_NOT_* - come out of the setup shown here. The formula is ... P = m x g x H x n where ... P = power in Watts m = litres per sec of water g = gravitational constant = 9.81m/s^2 H = head of water (about 0.5 M as shown at 0:30 ) n = overall efficiency of the system Considering the gaps between the vanes of his "turbine", and between the magnets and coils, I wouldn't expect efficiency to be more than 0.5. So there's the formula. Do the math, Folks. How much do you reckon he's getting out of his generator? I'd say maybe 20W, but that's a long way short of 7,000W.

@tpeter4240Рік тому
@@janesigabaro7593 TLDR: Arc welders can recharge the transformer. I’m not an expert electrician or anything, but this is my understanding: Microwaves are the #1 cause of death in hobby electronics, and it’s almost always in the case of not properly discharging the electronics, particularly the transformer. The high amount of residual charge leaves it very fast if it is shorted by a metal tool or your hand, and the high amps are what stop your heart. By using an arc welder that uses a high amount of electricity to attach them to the plate, even though most of the electricity is going into heat, you’d be reintroducing a small amount of electricity into the system just by proxy, along with some other static charge, natural capacitance, etc. made by the molten metal. Even a small amount of charge left in the transformer can be very deadly if it is unknowingly mishandled. I’m glad that (I’m assuming) no one was hurt. I would recommend using a gas welder, or better, just some bolts and wax next time to avoid the risk.

Looks like magic. You pick random high ratio transformers, put them around magnets then spin the rotor with an uncontrolled stream of water... no control neither over the voltage, nor the frequency, yet pulling like 100W from a weak stream and operating equipment designed for AC 220V at 50Hz. No effect putting load to the generator.... does not even try to slow down due to the load. This could work with DC gen, a few LED-s with a switching power supply capable of handling wide input voltage. I am not a civil engineer, so would take me a long time to calculate how much power you could get from this setup, but I guess it is something to power a few LED-s, definitely not 2 fans fans and a light bulb, in total needing something in the ballpark of 100W.

Very Interesting Video, to be able to power 2 desk fans & a light bulb with a 3x outlet power strip, not bad. the Vertical shaft isn't as efficient as the Overshot water wheel, because the Over shot wheel uses a combination of water pressure & Gravitational force to rotate the wheel, causing for less resistance, the water's not only rotating the shaft, but it's also pushing against the next paddle in line, slowing the rotation & wasting a bunch of that energy, plus you might want to boost that Speed ratio for higher RPM crank on that Permanent Magnet Generator. like those Hand Crank Radio/flashlights, crank at a slow RPM, it barely produces enough energy to charge the battery to run the radio or flashlight, but the faster you crank it, the more power it gets out of it. like I said it's an interesting video & that's a good idea for a hydro-electric dam, not the most efficient, but it's a good idea.

modern switch mode supplies that are used for most electronic devices arent really effected by differing input frequencies or even voltage as long as its high enough to support the required power and within the supplies operating specs. If you used gravity as well as the presure from the dam(horizontal orientation) and using half of the bucket instead of fully enclosing the impeler(so the water drag is minimum) i think it would give of a little more power and I think using a proper alternator instead of recicling old colis would also greatly boost the power output

Beyond the changes of the damn, you could probably get a bit more power just by increasing the size of the gear wheel on the turbine. That would quickly get diminishing returns, though, if you went very much bigger.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the power wattage for this fans are about 30-40W at the minimum. From the look of it the height of the head water to the tail water with respect to its datum line is very small. Also the frequency of this motor is also small since it is an AC the formula is N(rpm) is directly proportional to frequency. Considering the head loss of the pipe and its friction delivered to the shaft of the generator it may also affect the power output of the system. From the look of it the flow is between laminar or transitional flow due to the small speed and wide diameter of pipes. Over all this system is impossible to drive two fans.

bit of a death trap, but nothing some wood or plastic covers could not fix, and probably only able to output something like 300w, but that is still fantastic for a side project made from scrap, you are not going to run any high power items from it without issues no hair dryers or kettles, no old fashion light bulbs. you could probably fast-charge about 40 smart phones at a time from it though which makes it super useful, or run about 20 LED flood lamps.
