I was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer when I was 37. After a lot of chemo and a lot of surgery I am CANCER FREE!! There will be times you want to give up but stay strong and keep fighting.

I have a family member who was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer more than 20 years ago. It had spread to the liver. This family member actually did have a liver transplant after the colon cancer was gone. And is still around, as I said, more than 20 years later!

I want to personally say a prayer for all who is dealing with this disease. I pray for all of your healing and full recovery amen 🙏

I feel sad for people having to “explain” why they ignore symptoms too long… it’s normal to rationalize them away especially after past experiences with doctors when they tell you ‘Oh it’s nothing. Probably just stress. Don’t worry about it etc…’ over and over again

I had bloody stool and cramping starting 2 years ago. Im 37 now and got a colonoscpy and endoscopy. Turns out it was IBS. I drastically changed my diet and eat within my limits. My point is. If anyone is scared of getting checked, DO NOT BE. I have been scared before and its not always something bad. Plus, for your own sake, get checked!

I’m 42 and have red blood all over the bowl and I’m scared shitless to go to a doctor. I am terrified.. I got a 4 year old daughter I can imagine leaving her behind. I have health insurance but no courage .. Listening to you scared me even more but also opened my eyes, you are right I need to go to the doc. My identical twin brother was diagnosed in early 2021 at age 49 with Stage III rectal cancer and a tumor on his rectum. After surgery and chemo, he continued to get chemo till repeated scans found more and more tumors. He fought bravely but I lost him 12/15/23. Wishing the best for you.

My late husband was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer after several months of misdiagnosis, he was 42. He passed away just hours after his first chemo treatment. The chemo was too strong for his heart. Prayers going up for you. ❤

The amount of people that feel well until diagnosis is terrifying.

I lost my sister and a friend to colon cancer. My sister had no symptoms until right before diagnosis. She tried chemotherapy and hated it and decided to live her life to her best ability. 14 months later she left this world. I now get colonoscopies every 5 years.

I've watched many patient stories on this channel, and I had no idea that so many people have survived stage 4 cancer! It gives me hope for this terrible disease if I ever have to deal with it.

Had a friend that was diagnosed with the same type of cancer in stage 4 the doctors in Florida told him it was terminal. The company he worked for sent him to M D Anderson in Texas. He is cancer free and is still working 10 years later. I would strongly advise M D Anderson for a second opinion. Prayers!

I was diagnosed stage 3 in 2013. I pestered my doctor as soon as I saw blood - and was fobbed off as ‘too young/women of 40 just don’t get bowel cancer’ but I ‘knew’ - I didn’t have weight loss or extreme tiredness etc. All I had was blood and constipation followed by diarrhoea. After years of of complaining he finally referred me for a sigmoidoscopy & was told immediately I had a 7cm tumour in my rectum. I had that removed 10 years ago today - after radiotherapy & chemotherapy pre-op followed by adjuvant chemo & stoma reversal 18 months later. I’m so glad I nagged or I wouldn’t be here today

I was diagnosed with Stage III CRC in 11/2020. However, the tumor was able to be removed before Chemo. Since then I have completed 12 treatments of FOLFOX and 12 treatments of FOLFIRI + Avastin. No radiation (yet). Also have had a Prostate biopsy (no fun) and Liver cauterization of a small spot. My 3rd CATScan is scheduled in about 3 wks. Hoping for the best. You advocated for yourself much better than I did. I pray that BOTH of us will be freed from this monster.

My sister was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at 35...it had already mastesized to her liver...it was operable but, it was also in her hip and lungs. She went through so much in the 7 yrs she lived after finding it. She had symptoms earlier but who would have thought at her age it would be cancer. She thought it was so many other things. She also worked for a gastroenterologist. I do believe not overlooking ANY changes. I know if she had found it earlier by going to her Dr...she would still be here. Ever since that day she found out I was in for my 1st colonoscopy at 38...now Im 58 and just had my 5th one. Its so easy and worth it to have. Early detection will save your life. Dont be afraid people.

We fought hard to find a doc who would do the sphincter sparing surgery, but after standard treatment (radiation & chemo) he was not deemed a candidate for treatment. It’s difficult to hear how not every step was perfect or people did you right all the way, but you are here sharing courageously your story. They treat stomach cancer with many of the same drugs. I am so glad you are speaking out ! You are a very good patient advocate.

I’m a breast cancer survivor, not CRC. For two decades now I’ve had sometimes a fair amount of blood in my stool. I get colonoscopies every six years, at MSKCC, where I was treated for my breast cancer. So far, no cancer, only internal hemorrhoids and a benign polyp occasionally. Thank you for your advice. And I wish you many, many years of life, until you’re very old. Btw, I LOVE cats and people who love cats! Great to glimpse your furbabies! 💙

I was diagnosed with colon cancer stage 3a back in 2016, they removed around a foot of my colon and did a resection and then 6 months of chemotherapy, I’m in my 8th year of being cancer free, if not for my wife staying on me to get screened I probably wouldn’t be here today, my sister died from colon cancer at age 47, I was 56 when I was diagnosed, I was having no symptoms at all, that’s why I kept telling my wife I was fine, finally I went to be screened, after I woke up from colonoscopy and told what was going on I was blown away because I felt fine. I just want you to know I’m gonna be praying for you and asking the Lord to heal you like I believe he’s done for me. God Bless you Jason.

Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Your strength and courage gives us hope. I was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer April 2023. Since then i have completed 28 rounds of radiation and oral Chemo. Followed by 10 Folfox chemo infusions. My cancer ernt to my lungs. Had a microwave ablation, that did the job but wasn't pretty. Having a few test done for my surgeon now. He believes he can remove my lower rectal cancer with a temporary ileostomy.

I just this afternoon got the results from my colonoscopy I had done last week….thank God my polyps were precancerous and I PRAISE God especially at 75 years young. I am really pleased that you are getting great, if difficult, treatment and I hope you continue along the path to full recovery. Sadly a good friend of mine was in exactly the position you were in but he continued to believe it was his IBS. It wasn't and by the time they opened him up to sort him it was too late. They sewed him up. sent him home and he died 8 weeks later. He was 52. As a result I made a decision to retire from work as early as I can afford to and to fill my life with things I enjoy and want to do. I feel I owe it to those who had their chance to do so, taken away. Good luck and I wish you all the best!

I'm a stage 4 cancer survivor it' has been 8 years now I had surgery and then 13 rounds of chemo been cancer free for 8 years. go to a Dr who specializes in Colo rectal surgery mine had spread to my liver also and had a s Dr who specializes in liver surgery thank you cleveland clinic

Hey thank you for your factual openness in sharing your story. I love how you take control and totally get the middle finger theme. Your experiences and the way you found treatments is inspirational especially as most doctors in the uk start off by going 'are you losing weight?' 'Have you lost your appetite?' As an initial basis of diagnosing the seriousness of disease, obviously they then do blood tests etc but if you are in any way ignorant of facts like what you are so kindly and caringly sharing, people could then go off with a false sense of security. It's so easy to feel like you're making things up in your head or you're being a hypochondriac. I wish you all the best and hope you come back and keep us updated on things you've learned and shared. I admire your tenacity and keeping your mind focused on the future. I'm a former (now retired) home care nurse who followed a lot of colon cancer patients in the community- doing chemo hookups, central line care, and ostomy teaching. Then at age 42 I myself was diagnosed with stage 1 rectal cancer. That was in 1997. Went through chemo, radiation and a minor surgery because the tumor essentially disappeared after treatment, so no colostomy. I have been cancer free ever since. I share your sentiments about the pain caused by radiation. Anyway, I just want to encourage you as you await surgery. I hope you see an ostomy nurse beforehand because placement of a colostomy is really an art. You are thin, so you don't have much in the way of skin folds to interfere with bending and such. People who are heavy with a lot of skin folds often run into issues with the appliance staying in place. Because of where your cancer is, you will have formed stools that will be easy to manage. I suggest taking digestive enzymes with your food. They really help with keeping stools nice and solid. I have even known patients who have had colostomies for years and they don't even wear an appliance anymore because they are that regular. They just wear a taped gauze pad over their ostomy. I wish you the best.

The details of your story are super helpful. “We all have buttholes”. Love that. I had tons of bleeding before being diagnosed with celiacs. I had another form of cancer a few yrs ago, Ive had pet scans regularly since then, but now I have had GI issues that are getting worse. When you said you couldn’t remember the last time you had a normal poo… man, that is exactly what i’ve been saying. Cant get into the pcp to get a referral for gastro for a couple months, but i have a pre scheduled petscan in a month. Hopefully there will not be any cancer and my oncologist can do the referral for the gastro. There can be so many reasons for the bleeding and gas and pain. Need to bite the bullet and push for all the testing. Thanks again for sharing your journey. I wish you all the best!!!

I think it’s important that we share our journeys, no matter what kind of cancer we are experiencing, so that we can encourage others to go get checked and to get checked early. We also understand that when talking with our doctors that it is not the time for being embarrassed. Don’t be shy when it comes to talking about what you’re experiencing. Colon cancer is in my husbands family, he has crohns, his oldest sister had stage 3b colon cancer, grandmother had colon cancer. He ignored his crohns for years and I was so concerned because I was with his sister. You’re so brave.

I really like this guy! just a real straight shooter. we have to be our own advocate. I am 31 and go in for my colonoscopy tomorrow. I am really nervous for what they will find with the pain I have been having. They also recently found blood in my stool during a test. Hoping for the best.

MD Anderson cancer treatment center Houston Texas. Best center in the world. Rocky mount center gave my spouse 2 years to live with no hope, wouldn't even try to treat the cancer. It was extremely rare about 500 cases annually. Self referral to MD Anderson, 8 years later, still alive, and cancer free. I would have been widowed at 40 if not for our second opinion. Never give up hope, and find the right oncologist team. I can never repay everyone at this facility, for what they gave back to me!!

I think there is just something about the food that's causing cancer

About 1 year or so later after he healed up good he had it reversed and the bag removed. And lived a long time after that . I hope you do really good you are a strong man.
