i'd like to posit that the only reason this concept works so well is that the protagonist has a completely unreadable facial expression after hearing "i'm sitting this one out." obviously, we can tell he's troubled by it, even a little confused, but we know nothing else. is he sad? mad? jealous? even at the end when he's sitting it out with everyone else, we know not whether he's relieved or resentful, it's impossible to tell, and that conceit is what drives the film home

this reminds me of like early early youtube. there's a specific nostalgia about this type of humor and its presentation. There's something about this we don't see anymore. I thought that the video was more of a visual description of when you and your friends slowly drift apart on good terms. Each one deciding to move on their own path the further the main character moved on in his life. I was expecting it to pan over and his friends to not actually be there but instead he joined them lol.

Its weird we all relate to this in different ways. I see it as the rift that grows between friends and the things you used to do. Eventually you're just sitting together. Not throwing the football, not biking, not gaming. The more people that fall out, leaves no one doing that last activity.

The truly troubling thing about this is that they all said they’re going to sit “this one” out, yet once they sit, they sit for all future activities/games, which is strange because they all say “this one”. This leads me to believe they are not referring to the games/activities but instead, life itself. They are all dead. They decided to sit life out. And the protagonist feeling alone after the loss of his friends, commits suicide as well.

I don't know if I would go that far, but i would definitely say that it relates to slowly loosing your friends in subtle ways. And yeah it usually starts with someone not feeling like doing an activity. Notice that eventho they all took a sit non of them are conversating or even sitting close to each other. The only interaction is waving to the protagonist.

His friends words echoed in his head. He knew that if they refused to participate in the exercises mandated by Big Brother that the consequences would be phenomenal. Their empty, sallow faces stared at him from the sidelines as he tried to finish the state mandated "play" alone under the watchful eye of the cameras he knew were everywhere. "I think I'm going to sit this one out." Such a simple, inoffensive phrase. The words echoed over and over again in his head. "I think I'm going to sit this one out." Slowly, he walked over to the bench and sat down with them. They stared out onto the flat grey of the unoccupied court, relishing in what they knew would be their only, and final act of defiance against the cruel and demanding God that ruled them from the shadows. The simple respite felt glorious, and almost taboo. It was the ultimate forbidden fruit... It wouldn't be long before the Ministry came for them.

I cant stop watching your shorts. On the surface they are fun random scripts that seem a little silly. but they capture you with questions, "why is he bothered by it? what is he thinking? what emotion is that? I cant seem to figure it out. What is going on!" I think the small questions and trying to figure out the emotions and motives of characters even though mostly random and nonsensical are the real value in these films. So many modern films and series give you the answers and you can plot them out from start to end within the first 5 minutes. Yours keep you asking questions, no matter how random they are, even when the end scene rolls and thats what makes them so damn interesting! So happy your work has been recieving the attention it deserves recently and wish you the best in the future. We need little enigmas like this to keep life a bit more interesting.

Morose take: We all have a finite amount of times together, and the more excuses we make to avoid catching up or calling each other, the more easy it is to decide the next time is also not the "right time". All leading to that last time when you could've connected - meant to meet up or talk - and didn't. I guess what I'm trying to say is call your loved ones. Why do I always remember to call my parents at 2 am? Dammit.

For me, this feels like its about how friend groups can fall apart over time. When these guys were younger, they probably did everything together and hung out all the time, but then a time came when one of them had something on, some responsibility they had to attend to. And then they didn't turn up much after that and eventually stopped going out with them completely. And then another one of the group had a responsibility, and another. And then the final guy was left all alone. He tried going out to do the things him and his mates always used to do on his own, but it just wasn't the same, so he stopped too. The friend group had fallen apart.
