Just like clothes, bags should be for every season. And you don’t have to buy them; you can sew a suitable model from your own clothes. In summer these are light, light fabrics, and in the cold season they are denser.
A great material for alterations is quilted jackets. Nowadays, this is the most popular clothing, it looks great, wears well, is light, warm and inexpensive, and it appeared in our wardrobe not so long ago.
I remember this time when quilted coats and jackets replaced leather and suede jackets. At first it was unusual, but then everyone understood the advantages of such clothes. We were selling at the market back then and didn’t have time to import such jackets; they were sold like hotcakes.
Now it’s hard to imagine yourself without a bologna jacket in spring, autumn and winter.
Now handbags made from this material have become fashionable. Today I’ll show you how to sew a stylish handbag from a demi-season jacket.
Master Class:
1) I cut out two rectangles from the front part in such a way as to sew them into one piece and at the same time arrange the pockets symmetrically. The result was a workpiece measuring 32x35 cm.
2) From the back I cut out another rectangle of the same size.
3) I cut out 2x2 cm squares at all corners.
4) I prepared the same details from the lining fabric.
5) I stitched a zipper to the 32 cm side of the front part, then stitched the lining fabric along this line, the zipper was in the middle.
6) In this way I stitched the other two parts.
7) I joined two front pieces and two lining pieces together and stitched all sides. I left an unstitched area on one side of the lining (for turning it inside out).
Pens
- From thick linen I cut two strips of 85 cm each. I put one strip into the bottom corner of the quilted part and pulled it into the inside of the bag, unfolded the edge and stitched it, stitched the second strip to the second corner.
- I cut two more strips of 15 cm from the tape. I put 2 frames in one, 1 in the other.
- I folded the ribbons in half and put them inside the bag on both sides in the upper corners and stitched them.
- I turned the bag inside out through the open hole in the lining and stitched the seam.
- I first stretched the ribbon where there are 2 frames, into one of them, and then stitched another ribbon to the opposite frame and also stretched it in the other direction.
Ready.
There will be a video later and it will be more clear how to do this. Just a couple of hours of work and you will have a new stylish handbag.
