Any old jacket or sweater can always be reused and made into completely different things that can be worn for more than one season. For example, sew a hood instead of a hat.
It is also called snood, clamp, pipe, hood... In general, there are many names, but the purpose is the same: to protect your head from the cold and at the same time maintain your hairstyle. And if you add a shirtfront on the chest, then there is no price for it.
No special patterns are needed for production. You just need to outline your hood from a sweatshirt or jacket, the main thing is that it is comfortable and deep.
Now an interesting detail: the hood must be positioned so that the front part is along the elastic band. You also need to move it a little away from the edge for hemming, about 3-4 cm. It’s good when the elastic is textured and different from the main knit. In general, the cut is made across the knitting.
Approximately the length of the hood from the top to the bottom is 33 cm, width is 28 cm.
1) First I sewed the back seam. On the elastic band at the bottom I marked the places where the laces will come out of the drawstring. My elastic band will turn to the front side. This means that I placed small squares of fabric on the inside and sewed small circles. I cut out the fabric inside them and turned them inside out. That's how it happened.
2) I turned the elastic over to the right side by 3 cm and stitched along the entire length.
3) On the top of the head, where the elastic flap is, there is a seam on the front side. I decorated it with ribbon.
4) For the shirtfront, I used the top of the sweater, measured the circumference of the bottom of the hood and marked its length (half). I lowered straight lines down and marked 9 cm from them to the sides at the bottom. I made the cutout deeper at the front. I stitched the side seams.
5) Connected the hood and shirtfront. I turned the bottom 1.5 cm and stitched.
6) I inserted a lace into the drawstring.
This hood will be an excellent solution for those who do not like to wear hats.
