I feel like Barbara's dad's challenge to Ford and Barbara was not really a month to impress him. Rather, he was looking for creativity, intelligence, and most importantly, the act of helping. When Barbara proposed her plan of helping people in an orphanage, her dad happily agreed. A pivotal takeaway of this story is to never lose yourself in greed. Some people (like a few of the characters in this story) let their greed envelop them, changing them into arrogant snobs. Barbara and Leo, on the other hand, were able to view the perspective in which the poor were living in. They understood that they had more than enough and giving away was truly the better outcome.
