As a law student in Canada having done a research on prostitution, it is a good start but there are a lot of things left to change. @azrigal87
@azrigal87 Рік тому
@@illegalsubstance953 but why? Trafficking victims aside why should anyone, woman or man, be jailed for willingly wanting to be an escort? Why is this considered a crime? No one gets hurt, and it’s actually been shown to be extremely profitable of a business in states that have it legal. Imagine if someone jailed you because you had someone pay you to fix their car. You provided a service for payment and aren’t a “business”. So why is this any different? By definition it isn’t. You broke the law, and I’m not even joking. But yeah that’s a dumbass statement. If they wanna do that as a profession then let them be. No one’s getting hurt, and if it’s a personal decision, and not being trafficked, then who cares?
@azrigal87
@azrigal87 Рік тому
@UCNDrwK24gG0vI0x4Xe17jBw yes I do as a matter of fact, because who gives a shit what people do. Sex isn’t murdering people on the street, or forcing anyone to do anything they don’t want to, obviously aside from trafficking. And it’s exactly like that. You pay for a service that you wanted. You don’t want the service then either do it yourself, or don’t do it at all it’s very simple. But don’t hate on the ones who would rather go “get their car fixed” at an auto shop vs do it themselves at home. If you don’t like it then that’s your decision and opinion, and no one can say you’re wrong to have them. But jail time? Really? Nothing better to go after, that we gotta spend money to incarcerated two adults for fucking? Lmao.

I have a story with cops, a WAY lighter one, but still. The day after Christmas we had the son of a rich white pastor come to our home, break our window, threaten to kill everyone, walked around minors naked, stalked us, and proceeded to threaten us even more. The police came and you know what they did? They gave him a chair and a blanket. Almost a year later and the man hasn't even paid for our window, nevertheless gotten jail time. When asking the police about this, they got aggressive and snippy towards us and proceeded to ignore it. So yeah, cops aren't really that heroic.

They wouldn’t help me either beyond pointing me in the direction of organizations to get specialized psychologists and help rehabilitate me back into normal life. They won’t do a thing to the perpetrators. Most trafficking victims don’t get any justice because often the victim “doesn’t have enough evidence” to prove the actual trafficking. They took pictures of my scars, they got my xrays and other medical reports, I tried to give them all my texts and phone records, emails but they didn’t care to submit any of those as evidence. Too much paperwork I guess 🙄. I didn’t have any pictures or videos of anything as my phone was constantly being checked and monitored by him. Anything I did try to keep he would delete. In the end all I could charge him with was assault causing bodily harm and obviously, his money and his people got him out of that pretty easily. They don’t give a flying fuck about us and policies need to change.

When she said “a lot of our girls have autism” and the way she said it too, my heart dropped to my stomach. I’m an autistic girl, I don’t make eye contact, I have no self esteem, I come from an abusive household, I have social anxiety and PTSD... I’m literally so vulnerable and it just makes me so scared. I’m crying now remembering that I have entered into strange men’s cars (twice). I’m not a religious person, although I’m pretty spiritual, but the fact that this happened twice, especially with me being so vulnerable, it makes me think that there is someone or something looking over me. That could have ended so badly, I had just considered rape, it didn’t even occur to me until seeing her speak about it that I could have been kidnapped and trafficked. I've been waiting to watch this episode for over a year, in fear of ripping in to old wounds, but today I deemed ready. Thank you for this Anthony. These women went through very similar experiences a I did. Situations went from bad to worse and soon you don't see any way out. After being a missing person for a few months, with no help from the general cops, US Marshals were able to track me down and rescue me from that environment. All the women in this story were trafficked by men but other women are another tactic used to trick their next victim into trusting them. To anyone reading this comment, please Be aware of your surroundings at all times and never do anything you’re uncomfortable with, even if you think you can trust the person pressuring you. Thank you for this series Anthony. Not only does it teach so many important lessons, it shares so many people’s stories as well. These women are SO STRONG!

@Jax_00f
@Jax_00f 2 роки тому
Actually that is some of the least likely since it would cause much more immediate news! I remember 2 new gang/cult members grabbing 2 kids quickly into their van and then the kids got immediately returned once the gang knew and the new members were punished for doing that since luring people would be less likely to reach news. Fyi I hope all traffickers accidentally trip over a very large cliff into a prison cell, but at least it’s not likely to get yoinked randomly into a van ig..

The FBI unlike local police actually believed me and worked with me when I reported my father trafficking me. But they ultimately didn’t devote resources to helping me uncover evidence so that I could pursue a criminal case. Those efforts mostly go towards major sting operations and really high profile cases. They believed me but thought our best bet was to find the child abuse images/videos on his computers, & when they found that he’d (very suspiciously) deleted every single image and video file off every computer right before my mom kicked him out, they just shrugged and said we all know what happened but there’s nothing they could do.

@@gandalainsley6467 Well I would guess that for a decent amount of them the help either was dismayed by the abused friend that they actually aren’t abused, possibly because the abuser is now raising the stakes on what the consequences will be for them, or that the friend themselves is also part of the increased consequence for the abused friend’s act of disobedience. Probably there are cases of people not caring but I feel like other cases would be about how the help themselves is either being manipulated or experience some serious consequence for the other friend’s actions. Because often times when you go through really horrible shit and you make a joke about it, people are like, "Well that was weird, are you okay?" And it can be more isolating than you'd think. For people who have bee through things like this, laughing or making dark jokes is a way to cope. When people laugh with you, it makes whatever emotion you're having seem better. I was trafficked. I got out two years ago on nov 26. I’m so grateful that people are finally opening their eyes to the truth of this shit instead of just dismissing us all as drug addicted prostitutes. I had never sold my body or even considered it. I had never done drugs, and I didn’t do drugs when I was trapped either. He didn’t work with girls that he couldn’t dress in designer and put in penthouses and get top dollar for from elite clients (Other girls came and went as they pleased and got paid to work and they didn’t get beaten and abused like I did, but I was HIS) I was forced to work 24 hours a day seven days a week with zero contact with the outside world. I was pretty much always swollen and bruised and had to cake tattoo makeup all over my face and body to try to hide the bruising and sometimes I looked so bad he couldn’t sell me for a few days and he hated when that happened and would say it’s all my fault for making him so angry. I would sleep only when he allowed which was usually only a few hours every couple days.. and I was only to eat what he gave me and when he gave it to me and I was only allowed to drink water. I could write books about what this sick demented man did to me and forced me to do. I’m not even remotely close to touching the gritty details. He almost killed me a few times and near the end I had just accepted it as fact that I would die there. I was 22 years old and just wanted a better life, just wanted to be loved, but I was found by a monster instead.

Im a victim of sex trafficking and cops are a hige part in what hapoened to me. And trying to get help knowing so many are involved is sickening. 1st 2 times i escaped i tried getting help and ended up exactly in the hands of the person who was sellong my passed out body. These cops actually brought me back to the predator its how i found out most of murtle beach sc cops are involved. They even would video tape making it look like it was consensual when in reality behind the camera you have men threatening you to do so and if you dont do as they say you know whats going to happen. So why i dont ever beleice certain videos why you should watch out for some of porn people put up because some of the wkmen or most might be a victim as i was. They will do anything to not be caught. My body was burned with cigerettes to make sure my body was passed out enough. When i found thr videos thats when i found out i HAD NO IDEA FOR A YEAR. They tried Makin me actually think the burn marks where in my head. I shit you not they where that good at brainwashing they convinced me i wasnt who i thought i was that my name wasnt madeleine. When i finally got saved a man bought me for 15k so he could send me home. Basiclly the reality is cops dont save you no one does unless they buy you so you can finally escaped. And i ended uo lucky. There are so many involved and the scsriest is now in America a certain drug has made it here so their jobs are easier. I had a groomer that i thought loved me i had no idea for 2 years whar he was doing. They force you to take so many drugs to make sure to make you as sick as anything to get you desperate thinking youll do anything They say its how they train you. And people actually dont realize they help these people by blaming you. When i got back youd think for missing as long as i was my family would be a family to me i got told i deserved it. As if i planned on being raped by thousands of men and burn marks everywhere. I was beautiful and now jist scared. It seems i had no one when i got back. I knew why it was so easy for them to do this to me. They saw i had a family whi never cared for me to begin with. They use to laugh when i tried calling them for help. They got off on it. I still feel tortured thinking about how my iwn parents made it easy for them. Im not perfect but i actually thought my life would get better. And its hard fot me to look in the mirror and want yo even still exist

I have never been through what you have, but I have also had family not be so loving to me and it was never about me, but about them. I have a mother in law of five years now (mother to my boyfriend) and she has been more kind and loving than anyone, it comes easily to her. When we first met I was terrified to be alone with her because I was afraid she would hate me and treat me like my mother had, friends have. I love being at her house now and I no longer feel guarded. My mother does not hate me but she has many personal issues. It was never about me. If your self esteem improves, which it should if you are in a good situation now, you will see how it never had anything to do with you except maybe they saw you as pretty with low self esteem. That is not your fault. Bought you for 15k? So he had to pretend to be a criminal scumbag and chummy with them, and spend all that money to get you free? That is so selfless. I hope you 2 are in contact and friends, just hearing of this makes me want this person as a friend. It sounds like there were no other options to save you. I don't even have 15k.

Looking back, there are so many times in hindsight where I’m confident I was nearly trafficked. Being randomly stopped in parking lots, followed home from school, being targeted by sketchy people. And the times I called the police only to be told “well they didn’t actually do anything illegal, even though he followed you home from school and waited in front of your house, so we can’t do anything.” There needs to be more public awareness about sex trafficking, predatory behavior, and more opportunities for women to escape. The fact that the police did nothing when Shandra went after escaping makes me so angry.

I don’t know if Anthony or any of the survivors will ever read this.... but thank you! I have been carrying guilt and shame for nearly a decade feeling dirty and violated but feeling it was my fault, not even realizing that what I endured was human trafficking. I thought I was just another prostitute and carry that shame to this day. It wasn’t until hearing these stories that I realized that being abused (emotionally and financially) and manipulated into prostitution by your significant other is human trafficking. I’m bawling my eyes out typing this comment and waiting for my therapist to call me back, this video may have just changed my life. I always thought it was like something out of a movie, being drugged and kidnapped, never did it click that being forced by a spouse falls under that umbrella. I’ve been out of my situation for a few years and have gone through A LOT of treatment (and will have to continue for the rest of my life) but now knowing what I went through falls under that category has given me a sense of relief I haven’t felt in years. @@Samiju it’s something I refused to talk about in depth. Kept it matter of fact. “I was a prostitute” and REFUSED to talk about it more because of the shame, it isn’t something I feel good talking about to someone when they know who I am. This all happened 2012-2015 and didn’t start therapy until 2017 and have been through 7 therapists because we would get stuck with treatment (aka my refusal to talk in depth about certain subjects) and I’d get referred to someone else. Therapists can’t force you to talk about something you don’t give them details on. I went to recover from PTSD (more focused on the physical abuse and building self esteem) and kept a lot out of conversations because I have trust issues and this is my biggest secret, only reason I’m talking now is anonymity.

But his was female, and what she put him through was scary. Having to service multiple women and men. Having children that don't know their father, all the after effects of it and trauma he experienced is a lot. But he thrives and now works to help educate on male trafficking. Lots of underlying issues that feed us back to predators and would love to have that discussed so we can start learning how to properly provide for survivors, instead of causing them more trauma while parading as saviors, just like the abusers that put us there in the first place. @@BeedleTheImmortal I'd like to add on to this that sociopathy and psychopathy aren't recognised by the DSM5. They'd fall under anti-social personality disorder which covers a wide array of people, most of whom wouldn't harm you. Mentally ill folks in general are more likely to be victims than to be abusers.

im a journalism student and I've started taking notes on how anthony interviews. he's able to investigate with out prying. he's able to show empathy without belittling. he's able to make his interviewee comfortable so effortlessly and with such confidence. and he's such a good listener. hes just so genuine and humble.Such a role model for me.

I feel like Anthony (in this video and some others) sometimes forces a sad face to seem more empathic. The camera switches to him looking sad while the interviewee is talking about their horrible experience. To show how much of an empath he is. Like it's about him and not the people who are interviewed. The editing was kinda tone deaf in my opinion. The video was edited like it's a horror film, while it is about a serious subject. I get that the video should be interesting to watch, but the interview in and of itself and the information given should be enough. No need to add all this extra stuff to spice it up. (Please remember we're talking about human trafficking, people are getting killed.) Also with the girl with an accent it was kinda annoying that he kept repeating what she said and summarizing it. Like either she or the audience is stupid. It maybe would've been better to just put some subtitles. I'm sorry if this comment may seem unnecessary, I just felt like sharing my opinion.

@@femke7551 I agree Femke, especially with the girl who had an accent, he didn't have to repeat everything she said and also the very loud laughs were just to hide the fact he repeated her sentences. It felt forced and not 'real'. But I do have to say here that I really love the fact he brings light to some things that other media platforms are not doing. So I do have to applaud him for that
@schlorping5156
@schlorping5156 3 роки тому
@@femke7551 yea maybe but what are you meant to do in that situation. Personally whenever I’m having conversation with someone, don’t know what to say, and want to make sure I’m understanding what they’re saying I’ll repeat what they say in order to confirm what I heard. He could be doing that. And when it comes to the editing, idk how else you would edit that, and it’s more of an issue to bring to the editor. (Also on the ‘forcing a sad face’ note you don’t really know that it’s forced, and at least for me I kinda have to force every expression I have in order to convey what I’m feeling. never tried doing it to seem more empathetic and I’m sure he’s just trying to convey his feelings on the matter)

I had a friend who was trafficked, we had met back in elementary school and were friends till middle school. I always thought it was weird that she wasn’t at school all week. And when I did notice, she would have bruises and whatnot. I had later learned in my senior year of hs. I had found her sister on social media and asked how my friend was (her younger sister), and she told me she killed herself in high school. And she also told me her parents were the ones who would let her uncle and his friends touch her and use her.
