The fact that her doctors knew she had tourette's but didn't tell her for years makes me so angry. That piece of knowledge is SO IMPORTANT. Any disabled person would know.

A doctor diagnosed me with hEDS when I was a teenager but my GP didn't tell me and it wasn't until I was in my late 20s and was looking through my medical records that I found it out. So it's not an uncommon thing.

It can be medicated depending on what the Tourette’s was caused by and there is numerous therapy techniques to help patients learn how to control their tics. You can’t cure it and it is different for everyone.

Not to make fun of her, it's just such a perfectly unexpected string of words. 100% sympathize that she didn't actively want to say that, but she inadvertently created a perfect sentence. Wow, I figured having Tourette’s would be awkward and get you bullied some, but I didn’t realize the amount of physical and emotional abuse you could face. It’s so sad how people treat others who are different

From the previous interview, she talked about a certain tic that made her hit and pinch people. At the time she was not diagnosed so her classmates just assumed that she was a bully and ganged up against her. The real abuse is her stepmom story. It made me soooo furious. What a vile woman.

I hear it’s done to boys too, but it’s more dangerous for girls because of how physically vulnerable they’ll be as they grow up and how vulgar they’ll be spoken to. Too bad it’s traditional. Timid woman and assertive man is a very common dynamic so it’s not a shock.

I used to do that when I was little cuz people would laugh if I liked someone. So instead of showing that I liked them I pulled the kid's hair and stuff but I was giving him extra attention cuz I liked him. Was just scared of being made fun of. My friends at that time put flyers around the hallway saying I had a crush on him. It was embarrassing and his friend told me that he just liked me as a friend. I appreciate him not being mean to me but boy was it stressful. I left him alone after that and started to think over my feelings. I think kids do that because they dont feel safe to be vulnerable. The parents also make u feel less than for liking someone.

@@Poison_tears i have tourettes and yea not everyone will like people laughing at it you need to know the person and what their oke with i guess. Me personally i make jokes about my tics all the time. Like a week ago or so my dad said something and my tic slammed my hand on the table really hard and i almost instinctively said "my tic didn't like that" Cause it's a joke i often use. We laughed our asses of cause of the comedic timing. My tics are annoying and sometimes hurt allot but i just accepted them as a part of me and i love making jokes of things i struggle with to make it more easy. And some of my tics are just hilarious😆

The fact that she HAD a diagnosis and let her live without it for FIVE YEARS is absolutely inexcusable. It would have taken a 2-minute phone call and completely changed her life. There should be jail time for that kind of negligence.

The same thing happened to me I had to get a upper and lower gI endoscopy. And they diagnosed me with IGA deficiency but they didn't tell me for 4 years until I had to get another endoscopy 🙃 bruh they finally out what's wrong with me and then didn't let me know

My sister was diagnosed with austim at age three and no one told my parents till she was 5, and my spouse was checked by three nurses for scoliosis in elementary school, but they gave her a pass and said nothing to her parents

As someone who has Tourette’s, I was happy to see that you interviewed Anita. Tourette’s is really stressing me out right now in my childhood. Since I was 10 till now I’m 14, everyone hates me for “being annoying”. I couldn’t control it at all and they all said “just stop”. I wished for my tourettes to disappear but that can’t happen. I look so embarrassing when I make weird movement tics and I just wanted to hide my face and run from whatever situation I was in. Watching this made me realise that I’m not alone. Others are also going through what I am going through. I feel more comfortable.

Hey, try to ignore what people think about you. Remember, the people that really care about you won't have any issue with your "imperfections " anyone else isn't a real friend. Don't let the world bring you down...there's so many loving, good people out there...idk how old you are, but the older you get, the less you will care about other people's opinions....do your best at anything you do and you will be ok. Her story regarding diagnosis and help in the UK health system is hard hitting. I had the same with ADHD and a whole bunch of other stuff. I only finally got diagnosed last year in my 30s. It all finally made sense, but I had to fight for decades to get the help I actually needed. If it wasn't for myself I wouldn't have made it. My mental health has hit rock bottom several times. I'm so glad she's in a good place now after everything she's overcome.

BRO SHE'S NOT KIDDING ABOUT WAITING TO GET MENTAL HEALTH HELP. i'm an anorexic and after an awful relapse, i attempted my life. was taken to the hospital, then sent to rehab for 4 days, then sent back home. they told me they would connect me with a counseling/therapy team, and after 10 months, they basically said "oopsies! we forgot about you. want some help now?" and i was like "what." and they were like "would you like us to connect you with a therapist?" and i was like "uh... no" and they were like "oh." and then it ended. mostly recovered now lol.

Anthony, I'm an adult with "high functioning autism" which is a joke of a label. I have this huge dream of getting it out there that autistim doesn't always "look" like much until it gets complicated for us. If you would ever be able to do an interview or something with me, I want others to know that losing jobs, struggling, hoping, and abandoned may happen, but someday I hope it can get better for all of us

High functioning is an outdated and incorrect term. Low support needs would probably be a better way to describe it. Not trying to be one of those types of people, I'm 98% sure I'm autistic and I follow a lot of autistic content creators. They've taught me a lot about the proper way to refer to things relating to autism.

Anita straight up turned me into a better person. I never noticed that there so many ugly things about myself I needed to improve on. Her streams helped me recognize those flaws. I highly recommend turning in to watch her streams. Have an open mind. Be open to new ideas. You will learn so much 🙂

I wouldn't say she's well adjusted tho. It's clear from all angles that her upbringing and life experiences have made her very prejudice and biased. Everything that comes out of her mouth is subjective and only based on what she perceives to be the truth, ofc this is a given for anyone who experienced such things growing up, and there isn't anything inherently wrong with that, however it can create a dichotomy if said values are shared openly and broadly yet often times turn out to be misinterpreted or unknowingly cause harm.

Secondly, I have no clue what you perceive to be prejudice, but if her laughing at the creepy attempts to try and court her from those that watch her religiously is "prejudice," then I support that prejudgement. Finally, of course she's opinionated. Anybody who has any traumatic experiences had to erect walls around themselves to protect from further damage, and that often shows in the form of stern adherence to their ideals. Not a bad thing. I have no idea what your deal is but the only prejudice person I see here is you, and I have no idea why because I highly doubt she's done anything to wrong you, which means the only reason you'd have anything bad to say is because you're either jealous or self-consciously projecting your own insecurities onto her. Either way, neither of those are her fault and you should deeply reconsider your position, because all you're doing is casting aspersions onto a stranger, and there's nothing good about that.

I can’t even begin to imagine what it must feel like for her. I only have an incredibly mild tic disorder, and yet there have been days when my tics have caused me headaches, a sore neck, and feeling like crying because I’m not in control. I know that I wouldn’t be able to be as strong as she is if that was my life constantly, especially if my tics started interacting with other people. Let alone with how she’s been treated. I admire how enduring she is. She has gone through a lot and is still here. She should take great pride in that. And I’m glad she was and is so strong, because it means that we have been given the opportunity to appreciate what a wonderfully positive and funny person she is.

Anita is super strong mentally the fact that she was able to push through all of that through her whole life is amazing and she turned herself from rock bottom to starting her own business. I had a lot of friends in hs with tourettes because our school was very inclusive and safe and everyone was always nice to them even though they would yell the n word during class because the students understood and was able to accept them. Seeing this happen to Anita makes me wish she started from a better place. Much love Anita!! ❤️

Sweet Anita is so sweet. Sadly I can’t watch her a lot because my tics see her tic and suddenly all my eyes want to do is blink repetitively (that’s my main tic). It’s a shame but I’m watching this episode anyway, my tics got better and almost all went away as I got older. To other people with Tourette’s out there who is severe then mine, my heart goes out to you and I hope you didn’t tic too much watching this video ❤️

I also had tics growing up that luckily got better with time. I also have an eye tic sometimes where I squeeze my eyes shut for multiple seconds. Eye tics can be annoying, but I, along with you, seem to be one of the lucky ones. I hope you enjoyed the video as much as I did lol

@@TheOnlyWoda I knew I had twitches and stuff obviously (I don't have the coprolalia) but I had always thought I "wasn't bad enough" or because I could hold them off for a little bit sometimes it clearly wasn't that. Plus I had bigger medical issues I was focused on so I never looked into it. I then watched the interview just because I liked the series and everything just clicked so perfectly with what I experience. So I looked it up more and then made an appointment with my Dr to talk about it and went from there

I definitely don’t have Tourette’s but I recently developed a tick disorder that specifically presents itself when I get stressed or feel an overwhelming emotion. It’s definitely been rough but seeing Sweet Anita and how she thrives regardless of the cards she was dealt, really gives me hope for my future and overcoming this struggle as well.

My son just got diagnosed with tourettes ... He's 10 I've known it since he was 2 but all the doctors, therapist & psychiatrist said it's " ocd & ADHD " but we FINALLY got a specialist and he knew in two minutes! Did all the testing to be sure too . This video is going to be very helpful to me as I haven't learned a whole lot about tourettes yet. Thank you! Remember the amount of adhd and ocd that ppl with TS have is extremly high. Also, a lot of family history of either adhd and/or ocd alone is very common. Sometimes the adhd and ocd are noticed before the tics and/or vice versa. It’s a triad that’s very common. Sometimes, the ocd (or adhd ) can be much more bothersome than the tics themselves.

As the previous commenter mentioned, it is common for people with TS to have OCD and/or ADHD. I was diagnosed with TS and OCD when I was about 7 and have been on medication to help manage the disorders ever since. I have read a psychiatric article where they referred to it as "Tourettic OCD", and honestly, that is one of the most accurate ways I can describe it. I can't always tell you whether something is a tic or a compulsion since they overlap. I'm glad you were able to get a diagnosis for your son at a young age so that hopefully you can figure out if some kind of treatment would help in his case!

As someone with OCD I also wanted to add- it's about intense fear, anxiety, and control and a mind's attempt at trying to regulate and control the things that it can't control or aren't able to affect. Tourettes can very often be misdiagnosed as OCD, but they can- as others have said- be a package deal due to the difficulties people with misunderstood and difficult conditions and disabilities face, not having had any answers to what's going on with them, and so many other things. I'm glad the Tourettes diagnosis has finally come through, and I wish your son well as he navigates the world as a fellow neurodivergent person.

@@bk9661 I second this notion. Not the same as a stalker but a similar mindset in my opinion is when guys (girls can do this but in a different way) corner you and say gross sh!t. Obviously your not going to fall into their arms but they're in control in that moment and to some people that's the next best thing. You might not go home thinking about how charming and handsome that person was but none the less you'll be thinking about it because it makes you uncomfortable.

waiting lists very RARELY go down. that’s why it’s best to get yourself on it & wait bc it’s gonna take a hot second anyway. you waiting to get on the list when it gets shorter might truthfully be never. in my experience wait lists never go down in a significant way.

She is so sweet, it really touched me hearing about the hard things she dealth with. i have tourette myself and because of that i understand a lot of things she is saying. its not an easy thing to deal with, i was lucky to be diagnosed at an early age, because of this i could understand it better and ended up training myself so the tics are less or happen at diffrent places in my body (of course this is not always working at the end its still your brain that thinks F u imma do this, but i can handle it better) Amazing video, amazing girl!

I am so happy that Anita is open about being demisexual, I'm panromantic and demisexual but I rarely talk about being on the ace spectrum publicly because there are so many people that don't believe that asexuality or anything under the ace umbrella exist. I've always had a complicated relationship with my sexuality and often doubt myself because of this. Anita has every aspect of her life doubted and has still found a way to work around it. She's really awesome

When my tics first started flaring up, i did a ton of research and went to my mom and said "hey i think i have TS" and she said that i was just having seizures. Me having seizures was more acceptable to my mom than me having TS. And that really hurt because i knew what i was experiencing, i did so much research on this, i asked my friends with very mild tics what it felt like for them and then did more research and for my mom to tell me that i couldnt possibly be right was hurtful. My mom took me to the doctor and it was under the pretense of getting me meds for seizures but then my doctor ruled that out and sent me to a specialist. And when i got diagnosed with TS, Amy mom was shocked i was right. Now i cant tic infront of my mom because she isnt emotionally safe for me to tic around, i mask my tics around her even without trying, which in turn makes her think im faking it

I have anxiety tics, they started about a year ago (It was a winking tic) and at first my mom thought it was an allergy then when I got a head jerking tic, she forced me to go to an osteopath. The osteopath helped a little for a couple weeks, but for it to permanently go away (if it even had to do with something being wrong with my back) I would have to go back about 3 or 4 times, my anxiety just couldn't take that (I cried the first time I went because I was so uncomfortable). My dad said that his friends son had the same winking and head jerking thing and he grew out of it after a year and a half. Now my dad is convinced that in about a half a year my tics will just randomly go away. I used to have to make myself tic when I saw my mom for the first couple minutes of seeing her just for her not to say "Oh your twitches are getting better!" I say twitches because she refused to call them tics. I've stopped doing that because she doesn't really talk about my tics any more. I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing. But right now I'm doing pretty good, I never really try to suppress my tics, when I have an anxiety filled day I expect to develop a new tic, people usually don't mock me or make fun of me, so I'm doing pretty good. I hope your mom can just accept that you have tics and treat you normally, it takes some time but I'm sure she'll get there at some point :)

My mother told me I was an "empath" and that it was just me getting overwhelmed from the "energy" of people around me. I still haven't been tested or diagnosed, but I can repress them pretty well so it doesn't get in the way of my job. It's just exhausting.

@@gayfrogribbit i get that! I didnt add this to my original comment, but i told my mom i had a whistle tic and she told me it was a habit i was just noticing... I cant whistle, like at all. If your old enough, you can call the doctor and set up an appointment for an evaluation

Man what a good video. There's just something about tourettes that gives me great joy watching. I hate seeing the struggle but I love the humor it produces, and its like a genuine humor that you just cant get anywhere else. She's such a sweet girl, glad she's doing well.

My Tourette’s only got severe recently. I didn’t even know I had it and i’m not diagnosed yet. It’s been a really weird and tiring time for me, I’ve been struggling to accept what this is going to mean for the rest of my young life and really insecure. The one upside to it has been feeling such a strong sense of community and so accepted by Tourette’s creators. Specifically sweet Anita and a creator from New Zealand, UncleTics. These people are the reason I knew what was up with me, and why other people around me understand what Tourette’s is when i say i have it. It genuinely makes me feel like I don’t have to be embarrassed and i guess.. that i don’t look as stupid as i think i do when i have tics from watching other people ?? I don’t feel as held back by my condition because you guys are showing me, and all the other people with Tourette’s, that it’s not the end of the world, we don’t have to stay inside and hide from people. To anyone with Tourette’s making content, thanks for doing everything you do, it’s not an easy job but it helps so much.

I got a foehead tic that raises my eyebrows over and over till it hurts and I can't sleep and I pray for help, it was so often, like every 5 Mins all day every day,it slowed down eventually.. so weird but stayed even now it's there since watching this like 10 times.. and it slowed down a bit the last 6 months since I got sober oddly enough, but I started smoking weed again and quit 2 days ago, but oddly enough these withdrawls which DO exist, no/ very little sleep, anxiety, panic attacks, intrusive thoughts. My ocd is back 2, obsessive hair pulling for maybe 8 hrs a day standing in one spot, legs swell up and I don't eat or drink and just am frozen in a trance sobbing praying for it to stop for hours till I can finally regain control of my hands again and put my hair up in a tight bun so tight it hurts. I pray and pray to stop.. ppl say quitting weed is easy, it's not .. I have been sobbing and my tics came back like it hurts my forehead bad .. showering helps, laying down, noticing it..calming it.. I don't know If it's tourettes or ocd but it's something and I have tried to tell docters and counsellors for years and they say nothing! They say oh.. that's weird..., look away avoid eye contact. NOTHING, like they are weirded out and act like I'm crazy and bothering them by talking about it and there is no disorder they always say, no its just a phase!

I get the embarrassment from the ics, I am SO embarrassed by mine but talking with people online and interacting in communities that understand and seeing all these other people with tourettes too is almost comforting I guess? It really helps with al the negative feelings tourettes can bring you

I hope in the future you can interview people with auditory processing disorder because it's a extremely unrecognized learning disability, it be nice bring more awareness about it, and for people, like me with auditory processing disorder, it would help us feel less alone and find more people like us :3

I never watched her content, but I'd seen shorts and heard people talk about her, and hearing people talking positively or even neutrally about tics has made me more comfortable looking into ways to manage mine in a way to make them less physically tiring. This interview is great!

That alcohol thing is interesting. I'm autistic and had a bit of a problem with cocaine for a while in my early 20s because my thoughts move so fast all the time so if I was on coke my whole body would be moving at the same speed and kind of harmonize. I don't do that anymore. I have tried to get doctors to give me adhd meds because they are stimulants but doctors are very reluctant to give stimulants to autistic because of studies (with very flawed methodology) from the 1980s.

Maybe good to look into ADD/ADHD - sounds like you may have symptoms. Some adhd meds really help. Vyvanse is a good place to start. I had a friend who was addicted to Adderall - said it was more addictive than cocaine. So be careful!

Im autistic with adhd as well, and would like to say im sorry your having difficulty getting the medication that could help. I've been having trouble recently as well, because since my state insurance company changed, all of a sudden they didnt want to cover the 2 types of generic type adderall i was on. (Xr for waking up, and standard for the quick release while in public) times are getting rough, and those of us with disabilities need to stick together when possible to make sure things dont get worse.

i remember watching a sweet anita quite a while back because she did a stream with daily dose and i just felt like she was the coolest person on the internet. She had so much knowledge about stuff and she obviously had loads of fun with her friends and honestly just so amazing to watch, i felt like i'd been let into some sort of secret club where everybody was really cool so it's nice to rediscover her again after taking a break off the internet.
