You don’t have to buy a cool, spacious storage basket; you can easily make it yourself. Moreover, their prices are not cheap, in Leroy Merlin.
And the shape and size are not always suitable.
Using corrugated cardboard as a base, you can make a strong box. Especially good quality cardboard comes from the packaging of furniture or household appliances; most often it is dense, smooth, and thick. I always have large sheets in stock.
You can use ready-made cardboard boxes for baskets, but it is much better to make them yourself, then they will turn out smooth and neat.
To cut cardboard smoothly and without creases, you need to use a stationery knife and cut it on a rubber mat. With the help of scissors, no matter how hard you try not to get a high-quality cut, they crumple and compress the paper.
Before cutting, you need to measure the shelf, be sure to leave a little empty space so that the finished basket becomes free.
1) To glue pieces of cardboard, I take small pieces of paper tape and use it to secure the walls on all sides. Then gluing is much easier.
2) I use PVA glue, cut strips of craft paper and glue all the corners. It's better to do it outside and inside. After drying, the box becomes strong and reliable.
3) This time I made slits 12 cm long and 2 cm wide for the handles.
4) I glued calico to the top of the box and the bottom of the handles, thereby hiding the cuts.
5) The most interesting thing is the decor. Here you can choose whatever you want. For example, cover it with rope, paper, fabric.
6) For myself, I chose the combined option. In the center of the basket there will be fabric, I have beautiful linen, and along the edges there will be two types of twine.
7) Crochet braids.
8) I glued the fabric with PVA glue and left it to dry until the morning.
9) Then I hot glued the pigtail. First from below, then from above, where the handle cut the pigtail.
10) The top of the handle was braided with twine.
The boxes are just the right size.
Fits perfectly into my new open shelving unit. How much will fit in there?
