I live in Devon and saw this property on the local Spotlight news the other day. The first thought I had when I saw the item was "I wonder what Gemma would do with that property"... now I know! @@gemmawheelerI was so sure you were going to have to do an outside addition again, but then you didn’t! I think for any more usable space you’d have to dig! 😂 The only one of my favorite tiny house tricks you didn’t use was an elevator bed. Using some sort of hydraulic and/or crank system to haul the bed up into the loft space during the day, and down into the main space at night would be the only way I could live in something like this (I’m too old for lofts!). But that would require a lot of redesign, and it might ruin everything else. So impressed with this one!
@BettinaSchnerr
@BettinaSchnerr Місяць тому
Count me in - I would have made any bet, that Gemma would add some extension. To bring so much storage into this space and how it was done in detail, is creative and shows how much we still can make with older properties. No need to tear all the buildings down for newer ones - but not necessarily better ones.

I always love your work Gemma, but was surprised you jumped right into the renovation this time. Usually you do a lovely few moments of your analysis of the light, layout, and other considerations that guided your design. I missed that so much this time. I hope you haven't decided to remove those elements permanently. I'd happily watch a longer video to have them. As always though, your design are thoughtful and lovely. Thank you!
@gemmawheeler
@gemmawheeler Місяць тому
Thanks so much for that feedback. Those are still really important considerations that I use. Sometimes on spaces this small, the only analysis possible is on how I can use the space efficiently without disrupting the attractive features like the big windows and the fireplace. So that's why I jumped straight in by starting with using the height of the space. But there'll be more analytical projects in future, most likely when there's more space to play with.

It’s like you took every one of my favorite tiny house tricks (like pull down kitchen storage, in-floor loft storage, and a Japanese tub) and rolled them all into one fabulous package! My favorite part was how you created the desk on the open cupboard doors. And that hammock chair in front of the projection TV/movie screen! Genius. I couldn’t live in this space, because I’m old enough to need access to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and there is no way I am climbing up and down that ladder multiple times every night. 😂 But for a healthy younger person (who is pretty minimalist and isn’t afraid of heights!) this would be just fabulous. 🎉 ❤

Gemma❣️. That was the MOST brilliant, beautiful, amazing tiny home! As a Canadian who desperately wants to have a place back in the Uk that would allow me to come and go and feel safe when having to leave, this little house is genius. Just genius! Due to my health issues I need a bath 🛁 and I just adore your solution! I don’t know if you realized that the house could also be buttoned up tight with shutters and your storage solutions mean that “stuff” is not left around so it wouldn’t be enticing to thieves! I would also use heavy steel door with special glass and voila, I could calmly leave for a while! Of all your designs that I have seen so far, this is my favourite ❣️👋🇨🇦

You thought of everything! You're are an incredible architect. A lot of your ideas can be used in traditional homes too. If I built a home from scratch I'd review your videos for ideas.❤

I’m completely blown away by how much space you have created out of no space!! This is truly one of your best and an incredibly clever design. Amazing

not once have I seen someone claiming to really make use of all the space for storage actually keeping their promise - until now. well done! generally many smart decisions, not that typical but unpractical fuzz - the rail for the hanging hammock-chair, the japanese bathtub, and all while still keeping lots of space in the center and even space on walls for mental freedom - technically this might be the best tiny home layout I've seen so far, I really like it. will definitely look into more videos from you :)
