Jack neo said in a recent interview that he "stopped fantasizing about winning awards as his movies dont contain much artistic value". He's right, after ABTM 1, all of his other films have literally NO artistic value. Glad he has some self-awareness

As a matter of fact, it's not that Jack Neo is producing distasteful movie, it's more like we have grown up while the era has changed, inevitably bringing his usual sense of humor and film-making style to a demise. All his pun jokes have remained the same throughout his films. Back in the days, Yuan Yuan Yuan and Amanda Man would've worked because times were much simpler and our education on sociology is not as advanced as compared to now. Although, there were much more factors that extends out more than just his puns and failed humor. I would like to think of it in a way that Jack Neo is a true manifestation of what happens if our dad becomes a director and starts throwing in all their typical dad jokes, just to try and prove that he can catch up with the fast and evergrowing trends with baseless and sloppy facts. Although I might not be factually accurate, but it seems to me that his films were mostly targeted towards the younger audience. In the media industry, as long as your product can appeal to kids, the chances of peaking the selling point and sustaining your revenue is way higher as compared to things that has been deemed as "niche" which only appeals to mature or older audience. Another thing to keep in mind is that, Jack Neo has a brighter reputation which makes him stands out from the rest of our local film makers and directors, which correlates to the aforementioned factors. Comparing I Not Stupid to Ilo Ilo, how many dare say they've watched or even heard of the latter film? Which is why, his movie can still sell and make millions in a week, because he still have local audience that supports his work due to his reputation. But over the years, I stopped watching his films, particularly after the ones that he released in the past recent years, because I can't tell if I've been spoilt by Hollywood or it's the fact that his movies never changed at all.

Planning the movie be like 1) Get sponsors and product place 2) List top 10 stereotypes of girls 3) List top 10 stereotypes of NSFs 4) Get 'influencers' to act 5) Add lame jokes here and there boom, you have a movie

i dont get why can’t they do a movie about regular women (those that sign on) instead of creating an unrealistic scenarios where all girls must go ns. that would ride trend train better. and maybe mindef would sponsor also

Broken telephone was the one running joke throughout my days in BMT because the Trainers had terrible English pronunciation and corrupted any Technical terms. The best one was when one of my platoon mates was IC for the day and when instructed to march us to Hendon field (as in the field in Hendon Camp) shouted ‘To the Hindu Field!’ When asked how in the world he could make that mistake, he said he thought it was like the fields in Little India where the migrant workers hang out during their off-days.

I agree it's like a Web series which makes the product placement and ads more reasonable - but paying for movie just to watch ads in it is irritating

as a sec sch student myself, this movie (along w every other ah boys to men movie) should definitely not be taken seriously, and i feel that the target audience is mostly kids, i just hope their parents guide them and they don't learn the toxic stereotypes shown in the movie, honestly how does this pass as a movie even :/

I went to GV on the dot, but ended up watching 20 mins of pre-movie advertisements and approximately another 20 mins of advertisements during the film. So yeah... The audience was dying to laugh at something so when the film dropped the line "testi... bobo"., like you say they became hyenas. This is human psychology. When they leave the cinema, they tell themselves, I made the right choice, it was indeed funny when it was just rubbish and they wasted 2 hours of their life.

I believe there is so much more about Singapore than just the army, schools and complaints. We are a melting pot for history, culture, race and religion. Our films can do better. Leave product ads to UKposts before we grew disheartened about the film industry in Singapore.

So I watched this with the gf and I have just this to say. If you can turn your brain off and just watch it, it's actually pretty funny. It's pure popcorn fun and it should stay that way. Unfortunately I am also someone who has finished NS, and there was sooooo much wrong about it just from the military standpoint that it's just unforgivable. It kinda sucks cause I was pointing out the errors and my gf was like maybe u should just turn ur army side off and just watch it. The point is I can't. It's that bad. I'm not even going into the stereotyping and shit dialogue but just on it's own so much makes no sense. Also the fact that they were sleeping in a classroom was kinda hilarious to me.

having watched it myself, i pretty much agree with a lot of the criticisms you've levelled at it. i honestly thought the ad placements were the best parts of the film because it was so blatant and immersion breaking you just had to laugh at how terrible a job they did incorporating those elements into the story, definitely had more comedic value than the jokes in the script, if there even was one. (since after the credits there was a bit of a blooper reel and it sounded like there was some leeway for the actors to improv lines) can't even recommend it as a so bad it's good film because the runtime was just so long for a movie where basically nothing important happens. was so disgusted with how they handled the suicidal character, and i hope it isn't reflective of how singaporeans in general deal with individuals exhibting suicidal tendencies.
