don't worry Allen. muscle weighs more than fat. its natural to gain a bit of weight if you grow your muscles from the leg weights. if you wanna get rid of fat, then you need to do more cardio and diet better so your body uses it up.

@devin19222
@devin19222 2 місяці тому
@@Matt-jc2ml I have a simple real world solution that wouldn't do any harm to joints and show maximum benefits of weighted clothing, fat people, your are naturally stronger when you weigh more because you are used to moving more weight, but if you actually exercise, you lose weight if you are doing calisthenics they become easier, because less weight over time. So how to fix this, if you start out real fat, add weight clothing proportionally to your weight loss, so no strength is lost, and it shouldn't harm your joints anymore than being fat would have. So say starting at 300lbs, if you can do a pull up, pushups, run, whatever, as you lose weight, doing all those things now at say 180lbs after a couple years, but with 120lbs of weighted clothing would make you extremely strong and agile, no other training needed. Actually not much strong in this scenario from the start, but a 180lb guy with the strength of a 300lb guy. Also weight could probably be worn all day, since again you already wore it all day as fatty.

The thing with people trying this weighted training I've noticed is how big the jumps in weight are with how little adapting time there is. There hasn't been a single proper test of this weighted training yet. For a proper test of effectivity, you need to increment the weight very little at a time and continue with your normal training. You increase the weight just enough that it doesn't affect your dexterity at all and do your training like normal besides your daily life. When you can't notice the weights anymore, then you increase again just until you notice without it affecting your dexterity again. To properly test this, it wouldn't take weeks, but possibly over a year or more to do it properly and actually check the results.
@foodflare9870
@foodflare9870 Місяць тому
I have been completely of the same opinion, there's been too much focus on quick jumps to high amounts of weight. The thing is, even the anime they're basing their thing on had the characters build up to those weights over long periods of time. Goku didn't get up to his heavily weighted clothes immediately, he built up to it, as a kid he had tasks meant to build muscle, then he got a weighted turtle shell, then a heavier shell, etc over long stretches of time. Rock Lee didn't go to his current weight immediately, he built up to it.

Others have said it already, but I'll also add it myself that you'd probably be a LOT better off with something like a weighted vest over weights on your legs, both because of what the trainer noted about knees and hips, but also more generally because what you want/need is greater overall resistance.
@AvoidTheCadaver
@AvoidTheCadaver 2 місяці тому
Absolutely agree. I used to live about 2.5km walk from work so I started wearing a weighted vest and picked the route that had the most inclines and declines and walked it 4 times a week. I got to the point where I had 20kg in my vest and still had 10kg left to go. 30min each way Made for a great work out but by damn did my shoulders ache by the time I got to work or home.

I’d probably say that the *majority* of added weight should be worn in a vest. I could see a potential benefit of some *small* extra weights on whatever extremities are important in your chosen discipline (legs for running - help increase cadence, arms for martial arts, etc)

When I was 11 to 13 years old, I used to wear ankle weights, alternating 2kg to 4kg, almost everyday. Yes, even to school. I used to do kenpo, boxing and kendo too, so I trained regularly. The only time I took it off was to sleep and when I used to spar. It actually made a world of a difference compared to others in my classes. My legs were much stronger than a lot of people, I was also always first in short distance running in those years, also absolutely amazing at long jump. I stopped because I didn't wanna be seen as a weirdo or cringe weeb 😂 now at 24, my ankles are still strong, my knees are fine too except for the damage I've done from sports years later after the weights, but I think if not done right, how you walk, how you disrtibute the weight when lifting your leg etc., for prolonged use can result in more damage than good.

Ex-Metal Drummer here. Was a drummer for a 3 years, before I really got into a Metal Band, and the band... and me too... wanted me to be able to be that fast double bass running (I.E. Lombardo From Slayer). So... while I could match the pace, I couldn't maintain that speed for a full 5mins for a song, much less a 30min-1 hour set... So I did this _Basically..._ I put 10lbs on each leg, for 20lbs total, at the ankles... and then went to work everyday where I was the Fastest and main sandwich maker at a Wendy's. That kept me moving all the time, which is what I think was missing the most from this vid. I was still using all the smaller muscle giving me finer control over my legs, rather then *_WADDLING_* everywhere like he was doing. Within 4 weeks of doing this, my legs were machine guns, sadly the band never really went anywhere and now I have a 13piece Drum kit just collecting dust for over a decade.

It helps to understand the struggle these people had to go through to get back in shape.

I'm a certified personal trainer and almost done with my nutritionist certification. Most weight loss actually occurs from changes in diet. From over all caloric intake, to what you're eating, (doesn't really matter when you eat). One thing you can do to create a negative energy balance is to eat complex carbs lower on the glycemic index cause you digest them slower which in turn makes you feel fuller longer and more satisfied

Obese people can quite literally go multiple days in a row without eating ANY solid food, and they will lose weight (just drink water).

i havent watched the full video yet so sorry if this is mentioned later. It's very common to gain weight when working out, espeically at first. Because muscle weighs more than fat. I think it's very important for people to not pay such close attention to the numbers, but more attention to how you feel and what more you can do. Being able to run faster, longer, or lift more, those are more rewarding things than seeing the numbers change, and they mean more than the numbers. I dont know how youre considered overweight, you look very healthy, and I think as long as someone is able to keep a active life style then the numbers dont matter after that.

You’re making the kg of feathers vs kg of steel mistake. Yes, he gained muscle, but that was because of the exercise, so fat/water weight was replaced for the muscle. @wahbl997
@wahbl997 3 місяці тому
@@hata6290no he is not doing that mistake, he is totally correct. With correct diet you lose fat slower than gain muscles cause you replenish the energy loss with your food, while fat by itself is like emergency energy storage. I wore heavy steel-toe boots for years because I figure that it would at least passively help me push myself even during regular life and keep my fitness level higher. And I would have to say that I do think that it did do that a little bit, or at least it felt that way. But eventually my knees started to give out and now I can’t do the exercise that I used to do before because of it. So now I am much worse than I would have been if I had not done that, for a marginal improvement while I was able to do it. And I am not even that old yet! I think the most important difference is that in the anime he uses it until he notices improvements with the weight on, you have not noticed any improvement, on the contrary, you were more tired. In the anime he would have gotten tired too, but he would have continued for 2 more months or whatever it took to learn to move with the weights as if they weren't there.... At that point is where you take them off and the universe explodes.

LMFAOOOO I cried from the laughs with the weights on your legs. And especially with the DB dude that his weight dropped down. A tip for you: It's natural that you'd tire your legs like this. It's wise to give them time to restore their stamina, while they build their own muscles and masses. A untrained person would be tired and have sore legs the next day you wear them. It's common. A trained person would wear then and run, but at the limit at where they can hold on. Try going at a gym and see if you can lift anything with your hands. If you hurt your hands, this means that it's your body limit. If you wanted to get to those weights' limit, you'd need to start low until your body gets used to them eventually.

I also personally used ankle weights, weighted vest, and wrist weights. But, I went gradually, over the span of a little over 3 years. I didn't even work out with the full weights for about a year. I just did everyday activities and only took them off to clean them, myself, or sleep. I also used wrist wraps to protect my skin and an extra layer of cutoff sock tubes above the ankles. I also wore combat boots to further protect the ankles and prevent damage from rolling. I rode bicycle and rollerbladed with this on. Also wearing my heavy school backpack between the last year of high school and going into my first couple of years of JC. Note: I was also a swimmer, swim team, and martial arts was life since 5yo, so I also had them off during swim practice. It was very effective. I also did my basic stretches everyday. Once I got used to the weight and it felt normalized, I started to workout lightly and gradually worked my way up to full workouts, running, rowing, martial arts, calisthenics, light sparring. I remember taking all the weight off on a fight and when I stepped into the ring, I felt light as a feather. Just bouncing on the balls of my feet was awesome. speed, stamina, and force increased by a lot. But, it takes time and a lot of people aren't patient or want immediate results. Which is where you are going to hurt yourself, badly.

I did some 25lb dumbbell runs for 2.5 miles and a double 15 pound dumbbell run for the same distance. Could get the first mile in 9 minutes. It really gets the heart rate and lungs going. Two or three days after the dumbbell run I'd be almost two minutes faster than before I did the dumbbell run. Like 21:20 minutes before and 19:30 after and feeling super light with long strides and not breathing hard. I don't recommend it but for me it was only about 12 or 13 percent of my body weight because I was already 235lbs so didn't think there'd be much skeletal risk in my late 20's.

well wearing the weights the way you did, gave you more core training, and muscle efficiency, because you got a lot more cardio from how you distributed the weights in to the core, i used to use 20lb leg weights, wrist weights, jacket, etc. in during my time of high school for all my workouts, and yes, it's a phenomenally great increase in overall muscle coordination and effort. my mile before high school was 8 minutes or more, and senior year i got a 6.26. I wish i had my weights and all the stuff i had before, thanks for the entertaining video, I WISH I WAS ANIME-LIKE!! :D
@GerbilOfMight
@GerbilOfMight 15 днів тому
I used to do an hour of cardio kickboxing with 5 pounds on each leg three times a week. The problem is if you treat it like normal kicking you will get joint pain and likely problems down the line, HOWEVER, when I altered my movement into a controlled fast lifting motion all the joint problems went away. Treat it more like fast weight lifting, control the motion, do NOT snap the kick, and it does seem to make you faster. Also I modified the weights to not shift but be tightly affixed to my legs. Finally be sure to train your kicks without the weights as well as the additional speed tends to make you overshoot targets. Though rather than leg weights I'd recommend hand weights. I used 1 pound hand weights while holding an additional 8 pound dumbbell while punching the air and that was far easier to set up, control, and I never got joint pain from it. Before you try any leg weights try holding a 1 pound dumbbells in each hand and doing fast but controlled punches. Do NOT hyperextend (which you should never do anyway) and control the punch both ways keeping the muscle taut, do not go limp at any time). Just practice keeping your guard up, punching, and weaving like a boxer. Honestly I got more out of that than the leg weights and it's quite a bit safer/easier.

Doing the test two times is not enough to be reliable. he would need to do this a few times and on different days. but well, that in itself would be exercise, so I don't think there is a possible reliable way to do a test like that in a short time. He would need to not train, then train normally,, then were weights for a long amount of time with regular control tests in fixed intervals, and control for all the other variables. Like his diet, even the weather. And it still would be discussable because there could be other variables that would be impossible to account for. So it's not really possible anyway. If this were spread out over the time of a year so that you did consistent training with no weights, then to 3 lbs, 5 lbs, and so on until each one felt normal... I think you would see very different results. The rushing of this is what caused it to basically only show minor differences. Taking 50 lbs off your legs sounds like a boost in speed, but not when your legs are tired from carrying those 50 lbs... your legs need to be strong as if those 50 lbs are part of your body, not added on and THEN taking the 50 lbs off would be something. Either way, it's cool to see.

When you started workouts your body went into storage mode and began storing fat because the Caloric Operation Cost exceeded your the Momentary Caloric Reserve. In order to lose weight in the first 1-3 weeks weight loss is heavily dependent on your personal metabolism, type of food and availability (what you actually eat) . If you started increasing your activity then the Caloric Operation Cost must go up (i.e. from 2,000 to 3,000 calories) during the period of increased activity for weight loss to occur. You need calories (which will convert back into weight when you lower your activity level) to lose weight.

I know this wasn't the point of the video, but I love just how much can be extrapolated to dealing with being overweight or getting a skinny person to understand what it might be like being overweight. Specifically your comment at 12:20ish about additional weight making you not want to move much, because its much harder plainly put. I think that's pretty much how I felt the more weight I gained. Reflecting on it, I found that I slowly started to cut more and more out of my routine as I gained more weight subconsciously. By the time I realized just how much I had gained, the steps I could take to reverse the weight were extremely small and had to almost exclusively come from dieting. Its interesting to me that you somewhat came to that same assessment with artificially increasing your weight. At the end of the day/video/session, you can just take them off, and as you noticed, the difference in how you felt was immense and palpable. I wish that was a feeling that we could convey during weight loss, a way to simulate just how much different you would feel without the weight and how much easier your day to day becomes. I think this would give people a lot more encouragement over time to lose the weight and stick to their plans. I want to point out, you cant really just add weights to an overweight person to 'simulate' a similar circumstance.(well kinda) As your personal trainer pointed out, he was concerned with your joints, muscles, and bones in your legs while you carried out this experiment. If you think increasing your weight is bad on your knees try being a hundred+ pounds over weight and increasing your weight proportionally which I believe comes to about 1/8th or a 12.5% weight increase in your situation. Its more of an added health risk at that point if it can even be done at all. I'd imagine there's a point where increasing someone's weight by 12.5% artificially would render them immobile. Weight is usually a slow change over a long period of time, sometimes you can't even feel the difference and get discouraged. Maybe as you lose weight, you could add that weight to a backpack to reinforce how much better you are? It would require a measurable difference, but it could help solidify satisfaction in the achievement. Idk just something to think about, honestly might try adding weight lost to a backpack every other week. Remind myself just how far I've come on regular intervals.

It could theoretically be done. It's something called asymmetrical body conditioning. I did it for a couple months. Up to about 20 pounds. I can't say it would make you faster however the difference in stamina is out of this world. In order to make full use of this training, the key is allowing your body enough time to adjust to the Weight slowly this and the right diet will mitigate stress on your knees especially. With that said I recommend 5lbs on each leg for two weeks until you don't notice it and then double to 10 for the same duration. If your willing to continue after that increase by 5. Now speaking from experience the level of exhaustion is almost unbearable. But that's just my thoughts on it. I went from being able to full sprint only 100 meters to 3 city blocks no sweat, so the pay off was definitely worth noting. I would also recommend doing a light jog in the sand on a beach. It would help to maximize the training! I realize that it's a long time to invest overall, it takes a lot of discipline. But breaking past your limits doesn't just happen In two weeks. I will warn you though if you do this wrong you can permanently injure your joints, so take it slow. Study hard, eat and drink well and sleep plenty 👍😎 have fun and good luck

Back when I used to play soccer, I trained with weights on my legs (5 lbs each leg). I remember having to run for two miles with my teammates. First mile with the weights, took it off for the second. I was in last place and finished 3rd. My legs felt so light that my strides were effortless. So yes, wearable weights do help when training.

@@zai1549 speed is almost synonymous with power. In physics, momentum is equal to mass times velocity. So let's say theoretically, Lee's leg stays the same weight. If he can move said leg much faster, that means he packs a lot more power. A real-world example would be Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee kicked so fucking fast that he knocked a 300 lb bag around like a tetherball. He was only around 140 lb, but holy fuck he was fast. The only real reason people have that "power and speed are different things" idea is more for entertainment. But rest assured a faster attack means it packs way more of a punch. Haha. Punch. 'Cause we're talking about attacking. Alternatively, you could increase your mass and pack more power into your hit, but it's a lot harder to move when you do, so speed it is.

another problem was he pushed things too fast, Lee got that strong in about a year, maybe two years of rigorous training, this guy literally tried to do it in two weeks and literally didnt even train with the weights on, so by the time he had to run the tests again, his body wasnt ready for it, so he couldnt get the full results.

the weight check is the funniest part of this video 😂it's definitely muscle gain. Back in the day, my sister forced me into this weight loss program with her and one of the first things they told us is to not be discouraged by the scale. Muscle weighs more than fat and so you aren't going to see your numbers magically drop since your muscle is just replacing your fat. They said, instead of focusing on weight, you should be focusing on inches. You'll see more progress with a measuring tape than a scale.

If read about this in Micheal de Montagne´s book. He was a 15th century philosopher (not importend). Anyhow, there he described a man who wore boots with lead inlays. Apperently in higher age the man was running up stairs like a youngster. He trained most of his life with weights to be fit when he hits difficult times.

I did the math one time, finding a rough estimate of how much force Rock Lee's kicks would have, by running with an estimate I found online for how much his leg weights weigh based on how much ejcta they kick up when they are dropped. The math came out that, if he's kicking at the fastest kick for fighters irl, his kicks are delivering about 1 gigajoule of energy per kick. I don't have the sources anymore though, so 🤷‍♂️

17:30 Ok a good plan then is to use the weights all the time like you did, except for your modified exercise routine. Like just use an bike or stationary bike to develop your cardio during this period(i.e. just cross train). That's what I did when transitioning to barefoot running. You would probably see a much bigger improvement doing that.
