Swiatek is only one year older than Emma Raducanu. She won this one after winning the first one so young. Raducanu could take a page out of this and have the confidence that there will be more. @@bahardin3992 Raducanu is not that good, she's barely a WTA top 50 player. Elena Rybakina recently beat her 6-1 6-1 I belive, a fair measure of how Raducanu matches up against the rest of the WTA. Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, is actually a talented, complete tennis player multiple levels above Raducanu. Pls dont insult Swiatek by putting her in the same catagory as Raducanu, who walked away from a contest with Gavrilova basically cuz it went too long & she was too tired to keep playing. Swiatek doesn't do that shit.

Would love to see Ash v Iga in many tournaments ! Would be nice to have a rivalry to match Evert v Navratilova and Graf v Seles.

She wont keep this up. I doubt any top ten, or twenty, even Barty, will keep "this up." Just stating an obvious observation due to recent tennis history. All top 10, or top 20, will rise and fall for some time. Barty may stay #1, but she will lose matches.

I found it to be less about Swiatek's returns & more about her hitting legit winners! She did seem to anticipate Kontaveit's weaknesses well. It wasn't Anett's best day but full credit to Swiatek.

@@blond2282 Świątek is the best returner on the tour according to WTA, so I think as long as she returns over 50% as she does- which is a phenomenal number by any ATP or WTA standards- she is able to hit well

Bart would crush her by disrupting her rhythm. Anett just played into Iga's hands and had no plan B

Nothing forces more to learn as defeats, I believe game against Collins and especially Ostapenko were game changer for Iga. She faced several ball basher this year and with each match was getting better to handle ball basher

Surely, that match with Sakkari hardly counts as "destruction". That Maria lost the lead in both sets was as much her own as Świątek's doing, but ofc kudos is in order for breaking the H2H.

Better percentage in terms of service, 1&2, break points, only 1 double fault and a straight sets win could be described as a total domination. Maybe for Iga it's destruction of the demons more than anything else but it was the biggest win of the tournament. Kontaveit was just an exclamation point!

@@marekwojtowicz3005 Still, it's hard to conceal that Iga had a harder time against Maria, than either Aryna or Anett. IMO it came down to better clutch play from Świątek. She simply didn't play as much to Sakkari's strengths as she did before. Otherwise, both were fairly evenly matched.

@Marek Wojtowicz. Very well said. Iga played this way in RG final 2020; strategically and with authority. She eased up somewhat in 2021; only getting to Qtrs and Semis. Now, it looks like she is back--but better.👍

Biggest challenge was surprisingly Viktorija Golubić - very crafty player with beautiful one handed BH. Iga needed three sets, third set was one way traffic though.

I think a Iga and Ashley will make a better rivalry Kontaveit is a good player but don't think she's proven to be great yet. Many players have won a few titles but lack the 1000 titles or Majors

Sakkari returned the favour to Iga when she beat her at Indian Wells as Iga was in tears on match point.

But when you think about it Iga has a Major and has done well in the majors and already has a 1000 title Rome Kontaveit best title is one or two 500 and a few 250 and hasn't done well in Majors. She made it to the WTA finals and got beat in straight sets by Garbine it's a different pressure to win the bigger tournaments

Yes, Anette made too many UE’s at bad times e.g. break points, a set point and the match point.

Yeah but Clara beat her convincingly in straight sets at the Aussie Open in the second round Kontaveit plays a lot of matches and wins a lot but has yet to succeed in winning 1000 title or advance to a semi, final or win a Major when she finally does that then i will be impress with all her winning

I think playing Barty is more of a mental thing than a physical one....I could be wrong, but Barty makes her mid match adjustments so seamlessly it must be so mentally difficult for her opponents. Imo.

It does seem like a hard style of play for Kontaveit to do day in & day out. Honestly Anett just looked tired to me, & Iga pounced. Very smart on Iga's part, I give her credit. Anett either needs to up her endurance training or play fewer matches, imo.
