Glad Iga finished the season with a win. I hope she gets back to being a versatile player. Iga is not a baseline ball basher. I think that was her problem this season, she got out of her comfort zone and was forced to play her opponents game. If she gets back to her 2020 form, next season, everyone better watch out.

Much better performance from Iga than against Sakkari. Even if Badosa didn't seem to want to play 3rd set and she pretty much gave up the second, Iga played much better game. Moving few steps back actually helped with returning heavy serves from Badosa. Iga also had much better 1st serve than against Sakkari (this element is still the weakest part of entire Iga's play, still too easy to return). I still think that she should let go her team and find pro coach who can improve her service. She also need to work on upper body to get more power - she is not a small woman and Badosa, Kontavait, Sakkari shouldn't be so much more powerful.

One could have compiled the entire highlights solely on that long game 4 action of the second set with those great exchanges, Iga squandering 7 break point opportunities (one involving bodily contact penalized touch of the net).

Great match. Iga won fair and square. First set was definitely of the highest level. Both Iga and Paula played fantastic exchanges. Also first games of the 2nd set when Paula had to defend her serve for 10mins. She was even sending ace in the last game she got broken ( so not sure if anyone can claim she has just let it go). I think she has just run out of energy, was not able to convert in 2s and most importantly didn't expect this kind of determination and level from Iga.

First Set Paula played 100%. Second set maybe 70% (last 2 games 40% max :D ). But still first set was fun to watch :)

I think there is a bit of gamesmanship going on with these final matches, both Badosa and Kontaveit were unbeatable last week yet somehow lost in straight sets this week. Poor Pliskova probably started watching the first set in the players lounge and ended up in the tequila bar by the second set.

Badosa is so stunning that you can't get your eyes off. Hehe. And Iga is of course highly talented. Both these women have shown with this matchup that they are going to develop a rivalry in the future. And one thing I really can't understand and also rightly pointed by Kasatkina herself that what is happening in Spain. First, they have a right handed Nadal who wins 21 grand slams with his left hand and then we have Paula who is left handed but plays with her right hand. Weird but mind blowing. Wonder, such weird champions are going to come out of Spain even in the future.

Definitely not peak perf for either of them - I think the altitude has affected stamina for the players across the board. It's not fair to say Paula let Iga win. Strategically though it doesn't make sense for Paula to fight to the death for this match and if they are truly friends outside of the court, she looses nothing if Iga wins and and mentally can leave this tournament with at least one win - so win-win. I think they both know that.

Let's pretend (just pretend) Paula tried to win the match at some point and struggled for it not even running after easy balls, I mean, I didn't watch the last Anett's match but I may swear she did the same "exhibition performance". I don't like this but both players conquered this privilege.
