@K_ingh168 місяців тому
@@Healed ended up booking the restricted view seats on the side middle row and had no issues, though I believe people at the front might have a bit of an issue seeing a bit of the bottom as there's a barrier there. the film itself was brilliant though the film wasn't as vibrant as I had thought but your eyes get adjusted to it and gives a nice nostalgic feeling even though it was my first time seeing film
@officialsimonharrisРік тому
Just before the pandemic I saw 2001 a Space Odyssey there in 70mm - was amazing but to be honest now I am used to digital, by comparison real film is a very retro experience to see the dust and marks on the film, the flickering etc so I really think that in most circumstances you cannot beat the dual laser projection now. I didn't know they had refurbished the theatre, when I was last there is was rather dated with soft fabric seats,I need to visit it again now . . . .
@Reason07710 місяців тому
IMAX 15/70 is a *very* different technology and experience to classic 70mm film like 2001. I'd highly recommend seeing something like Interstellar on 15/70 IMAX if you ever get the chance. Also, London's BFI IMAX is even bigger and better than this Science Museum IMAX.
@roidjones9 місяців тому
What are the best seats?
@kovyvuriРік тому
We have an imax not too dissimilar to this at Showcase Cinemas. Dual IMAX projectors, 12ch sound system. Biggest difference is all of our projection screens are humongous 16:9, while this one looks slightly more 4:3.
@boredtechРік тому
Dual IMAX Digital or Dual IMAX with lasers projectors? It makes a huge difference.
@Reason07710 місяців тому
True IMAX 15/70 has a "tall" 1.43:1 aspect ratio for a more immersive experience. Wide formats like 16:9 don't fill as much of the IMAX screen and feel a bit letterboxed.
@robertdavies9957Рік тому
I was fortunate to see Dune (1.43) on this screen - it was honestly worth going just for the sound, a truely amazing cinema experience
@boredtechРік тому
Can't wait for Dune Part II
@Tom-qo4mzРік тому
@@boredtech do you know if dune was released on film? i've only just learnt of the different projection technologies and their bearing on being able to accommodate 1:43 vs 1:90 AR but i've been going to BFI/odeon waterloo imax since forever, assuming it was the best, but only just realised that if dune was only distributed digitally then my showing i went to at waterloo would only have been 1:90 and not 1:43 (and now means its a goal to try and make it to a 1:43 screening when one comes around!) (i've not watched your video here yet but hae booked marked it in my 'to watch')
@HEAVYHEARTSMUSIC10 місяців тому
@@Tom-qo4mz Both Dunes were shot and presented digitally. BFI currently has a single laser and a 70mm projector, so when you saw Dune Part One, you likely saw it in 1.90 (only a few sequences opened up to 1.43 anyway). It is highly believed that Dune Part Two was shot in 1.43 in its entirety.
@Tom-qo4mz10 місяців тому
@@HEAVYHEARTSMUSIC thanks, and yes been back to the bfi imax a ton seeing both digital and film (mostly the nolan re-screenings) since i made my comment, and may make the trip up to manchester printworks that found out has dual laser for dune pt 2 in 1.43! (i could go to the london science museum if they decide to show it which they might because that's also dual laser, but they've got that barrier in front of the bottom of the screen that obscures it a little bit which would irk no doubt irk the perfectionist in me when watching 😅) [edit i just realised i'm replying to a comment on a video about the science musuem's imax lol i didn't check what video the comment i originally made was on]

@@boredtech what is best seat for this imax?
@officialsimonharrisРік тому
yes this is like an old school IMAX when there were only IMAX movie shorts playing (such as The Dream is Alive), the style of the theatre is from those days. Similar to some IMAX theatres like that in the US I went to in Las Vegas, the IMAX and Omnimax. This is the most authentic old school IMAX experience in London in that respect.
@Edward135iРік тому
@@officialsimonharris we used to have a Omnimax theater in Portland, it was epic the screen was so massive it literally felt like you where moving, they replaced it with a basic bitch theater with a huge screen and Dolby Atmos sound, but it's not a Dolby Cinema by any means. IMAX wanted to much money to upgrade it into a modern real IMAX theater. really sucks, I have a lot of childhood memories watching those weird IMAX movies they'd make, but I didn't care what was playing because the spectacle of the place was overwhelming.

What would you say would be the best venues to watch Avatar 2 in 3d? A lot of Odeon's seem to only be showing black panther in 2d and I don't trust Vue when it comes to 3d...
@boredtechРік тому
Personally I'm planing to watch it twice. Dolby Cinema: ODEON Luxe West End (even if it's not in 3D). and BFI IMAX or Science Museum Imax (as these two are most advanced cinemas in London at this moment).
@mrpotatoguy1Рік тому
@@boredtech Ok, thanks. I don't think you mentioned the 3d problem at Vue's West end cinema. I went to see the Avatar re-release there and the 3d was all distroted and double vision. I'd already seen it a week prior at another Vue and the 3d was fine. I've looked at google and yelp reviews and the problem seems to date at least three years back and they haven't done anything. To make it even worse they're still showing 3d films there and will likely ruin many peoples experience of the new Avatar. Were you aware of this?
@Tom-qo4mzРік тому
@@boredtech re: 'BFI IMAX or Science Museum Imax (as these two are most advanced cinemas in London at this moment).' (i put a TL;DR at the end of this comment) I am trying to work out what cinema to go and watch my second viewing of Avatar 2 in (my first was in a Vue in a small city so now want to experience it in imax), and would appreciate some clarification. On a reddit avatar 'format guide' a couple of people posted this info: "Dual laser IMAX is better at picture quality than single laser IMAX but, if I understand correctly, dual laser IMAX will drop resolution during action sequences for this particular film. That's because those scenes are 48fps and apparently the dual laser IMAX can't do 48fps and 4K at the same time. So in a way, single laser IMAX is better. Except there is no 2D IMAX for this film so being in 3D means you especially want the brightness from the dual lasers to compensate. So basically there is no objectively best theater in the case of Avatar 2. It's a triangle where you can only pick two: huge screen + picture quality = IMAX dual laser huge screen + consistent 4K = IMAX single laser consistent 4K + picture quality = Dolby Cinema" and "In short, IMAX dual laser = 2k with good contrast quality IMAX single laser = Consistent 4k" and "so with avatar 2 dual laser = brighter but it switches between 4k and 2k because of the framerate changes single laser = consistent 4k but way less brightness" From what i'd found so far, I thought Empire Leicester Sq was the only venue in London with the dual laser projection tech, and so all things considered with the 3D (including projection tech's impact on brightness) being the priority, this would be the best one to see a screening at (i had also thought this because i found out single laser projectors can't do 1:43 AR for digital projection and so i incorrectly assumed i would be able to see avatar 2 in 1:43 at the Empire theatre, but have since found out that avatar 2 wasn't made with 1:43 AR so this is irrelevant). My understanding is that the BFI waterloo venue has a single laser projector, despite the recent upgrade (and that this decision was made due to physical constraints in the projector rooms where they couldn't keep both the 70mm imax projector and a dual laser projector at the same time and so opted to keep the 70mm projector and install a new single laser projector instead which meant they could fit both a digital and film projector. int here). In view of the reddit comments above, can i ask why would you prioritise seeing avatar 2 in the BFI waterloo location (and even the Science museum one) over the empire Leicester sq one? (maybe the SM one has a dual laser tech too, sorry i mentioned in my other comment re: dune before that i've not watched your video here yet but have book marked it to watch it - though i read the science museum no longer shows commercial films so am surprised to see that you considered it as an option for avatar 2 in your comments here, maybe what i read was incorrect? i've. notchecked their site for listings) TL;DR. - confused why you'd choose BFI waterloo/science museum over empire Leicester sq when the latter is dual laser (and so better for 3D on the whole)? Appreciate any response!

I would say center of the Row J or K.
@tautvydastamasauskasРік тому
What cinema in UK do you think would be best to wach Avatar: The Way of Water in IMAX 3D?
@boredtechРік тому
According to IMDB the aspect ratio of this movie in IMAX will be 1.90 : 1. This means that the image will not fill entire IMAX screen. I couldn't find any information that it was filmed for IMAX ether. I would probably choose dolby cinema (West End Odeon the one inside The Londoner Hotel). But for the sake of curiosity I would try to watch it in IMAX too (BFI or Science Museum, they have the latest IMAX Light Amplification By Stimulated Emission Of Radiation light source projectors and 12 channels sound systems).
@tautvydastamasauskasРік тому
Thanks for your reply! This movie was filmed with 3D cameras so I'd like to find the best 3D available. I guess BFI and the Science Museum are both good choices.

What seats are tbe best for BFI and Science Museum?
@boredtechРік тому
Obviously center (Rows J-M at BFI). Basically closer to the back of the audience but leave 3-4 between you and the back wall. This will give you abetter angles on surrounds and overheads.
